Day 91 - Oh What a Weekend!

Monday, June 11, 2012

Oh what a weekend! And I don't mean that in a good way. I was offered a job at a tree company and I took it. I attempted to quit my current job and they worked with me so I can work both jobs for a short time to get back on my feet. Then I celebrated with friends and family. Oh boy, did I celebrate!

I haven't exercised much since Friday and I didn't log any of it. Ugh. So much for accountability there, but I did log every bite I took and every thing I drank.

Friday I went with my adult son to visit with some friends that I haven't seen in months. They wanted to go out for mexican and that sounded GREAT to me. I had avocado enchiladas and 2 margaritas. It was yummy. I ended the day at about 700 calories over my daily limit. But I told myself that I'd get back on track the next day. Which I did. I had fresh fruit and veggies all day with lean meats.

Then Sunday I took my adult daughter to IHop for breakfast. The breakfast alone was over my daily caloric limits. I enjoyed every bit. I had fresh fruits and veggies for the rest of the day and we walked a lot to work out a bit of the damage.

I didn't feel a bit guilty about eating this weekend like that. But the damage is very clear. All that salt and fat made me feel bloated and I've gained a lot of weight because of it. Today I'm back on track. Since this is the first day of my new job I was able to pack 2 great snacks, and a very healthy lunch. I'll be up and moving so that will help.

I'm determined to keep my mind positive about the right choices and take the lessons from the unhealthy choices. I'm just not going to be upset about the weight gain because I know that soon I will have it all under full control again. I will have to work out to add exercise while working 2 jobs. That should be interesting and I'll keep you posted.

Day 87 - Interviewing

Thursday, June 07, 2012

I went to one on-site interview and had a phone interview. The on-site is a no-go for me. The phone interview has promise. But he has 300 applicants to review and won't know until next week who he will see in person.

80 jumping jacks (1 x 65) whew, that was tough!
20 lunges (10/leg x1) It's better if I walk these rather than be stationary.
25 squats (x1)
20 sit ups (x2)
10 push-ups (x0)
60 second wall sit (x2)
60 second plank. (x0)

Day 87 - Interviewing

Thursday, June 07, 2012

I interviewed with a tree company yesterday. I don't think we are a good match. At first I just wanted a job. But as I think about it, it just seemed to be less and less attractive. I got a call for a phone interview later in the day. This one looks promising but he has 300 applicants to review and narrow down. I won't know until next week.

80 jumping jacks (1x 65) whew, that was tough!
20 lunges (10/leg x1) these are becoming fun cuz I walk them.
25 squats (x1) *sigh* these will never be favorites
20 sit ups (x3) I love sit ups because I can do them.
10 push-ups (x1) ugh.
60 second wall sit (x3)
60 second plank. (x0)

Day 86 - Major Impact

Wednesday, June 06, 2012

I work from home as a tech adviser to my co-workers. The company has about 5000 employees and I help when they are having connectivity, phone and systems issues. It's a telecommuting job which I love. Saturday I was given the news that the hours for our Team of 30 have been drastically cut to the tune of 500 hours per month. They promised more information later.

So Monday the Bosses announced they had created a way to be fair in reallocating the number of maximum hours we can get in a week. Hours were cut any where from 15% - 30%. My hours were cut by 20%. And the MAX I can get in a week is now 29 hours. More on how the hours will actually be allocated later.

Tuesday the Bosses announced that ONE spreadsheet was created for the T1 Team and one for T2 Team to enter their names in time slots until they have their MAX hours allotted. It is now being passed around, according to seniority so each of us can choose our hours. So the 1st in line adds their hours. Now those hours will not be available to the rest of the team unless more than one T1 is needed at that time of day. Then the next person fills in on that same page. And so on until all available time slots are filled. By the time it reaches me 22 others will have entered their hours. It will certainly not let me create an ideal schedule. And according to the Bosses it will be a permanent schedule until further notice.

I have an interview today for an Office Manager position. After working from home for 5 years this is a tough thing to do. Get up, get dressed, head into traffic, pack lunches, wear make-up, do my hair. *sigh* I have been spoiled. I can exercise during breaks at home. I have been fitting in 10 minutes here and 10 minutes there. With a full kitchen I can make a great cooked lunch every day. And start dinner so it's ready when I leave work.

This means I have to learn another way to take care of myself. I'm going to do it. But it was an unexpected shift in my life.

I think I may need to buy a microwave....

I have a very unsteady work situation myself. I get in a routine, then I get out of it. I can honestly say, that is the thing that has the greatest effect on my weight loss. The best advice I can give is find something you can do consistently during the transition, and stick with it. I decided that I would not miss any workouts -- and I haven't. Through all the travel, and the crazy scheduling, I haven't missed. And it's brought cohesion to my weight loss plan. My eating habits were up and down for a copule of weeks, but there was always the morning workout to bring me back to 'center'. Much success to you!

I'm not in that same situation, but a similar one where my hours change every 12 weeks. I have quite the groove going that I started in February. Come July 1 it will all change. I am a little bit afraid of how this change will go for me. But I am going to keep on and do what I need to do for me.

You may want a microwave, but you can do it with out one. You can still make yummy grilled or pan seared lean protein to put on salads, I love crockpot cooking because dinner is ready when I get home (usually) and doesn't take a lot of prep work. You can do it! You will do it!

I am sorry you are having issues with your job. You may find in the long run this change is for the better. So far, that has been my general experience.
