I work from home as a tech adviser to my co-workers. The company has about 5000 employees and I help when they are having connectivity, phone and systems issues. It's a telecommuting job which I love. Saturday I was given the news that the hours for our Team of 30 have been drastically cut to the tune of 500 hours per month. They promised more information later.
So Monday the Bosses announced they had created a way to be fair in reallocating the number of maximum hours we can get in a week. Hours were cut any where from 15% - 30%. My hours were cut by 20%. And the MAX I can get in a week is now 29 hours. More on how the hours will actually be allocated later.
Tuesday the Bosses announced that ONE spreadsheet was created for the T1 Team and one for T2 Team to enter their names in time slots until they have their MAX hours allotted. It is now being passed around, according to seniority so each of us can choose our hours. So the 1st in line adds their hours. Now those hours will not be available to the rest of the team unless more than one T1 is needed at that time of day. Then the next person fills in on that same page. And so on until all available time slots are filled. By the time it reaches me 22 others will have entered their hours. It will certainly not let me create an ideal schedule. And according to the Bosses it will be a permanent schedule until further notice.
I have an interview today for an Office Manager position. After working from home for 5 years this is a tough thing to do. Get up, get dressed, head into traffic, pack lunches, wear make-up, do my hair. *sigh* I have been spoiled. I can exercise during breaks at home. I have been fitting in 10 minutes here and 10 minutes there. With a full kitchen I can make a great cooked lunch every day. And start dinner so it's ready when I leave work.
This means I have to learn another way to take care of myself. I'm going to do it. But it was an unexpected shift in my life.
I think I may need to buy a microwave....
