Running Progress

I'm finally able to run 3 miles straight during my regular runs and it takes me about 32 minutes. I'd like to get that down to 27 minutes so I've got a ways to go. I started doing some intervals on Saturday where I ran 5.5 mph for 2 minutes, then 6.5 for 2 minutes and repeat five times, ending with 5.5 mph for one minute. I hope it will help me increase my speed.

  You're making great progress!!!! I can remember my first 5k ... I ran it in just under 45 minutes. I know to a lot of people they can walk that fast (and there were definitely some walkers out there that were faster than I was). However, I was "jogging" the entire time I was in the event, never taking a walk break. Now I'm much faster (but not up to your speed yet) and looking forward to completing a 5k in under 35 minutes this May. I average about 5.5 mph ... and for me that's great. I even won the lottery to be able to run the Mackinaw Bridge last year ... and that was amazing!!! Watching the sunrise over Mackinaw Island while cresting the center of the bridge was something I will never forget.

My mantra ... when I get tired of being one of the last finishes ... is that I'm faster than I was when I was on the couch!!!

Final Week

This is the final week of our biggest loser competition at work and I'm trying really hard to make it a big finish. I've reached my goal weight of 132, but I am trying to lose 2 more lbs for the competition. I've been pretty strict about my diet while doing the competition and it's caused me to binge a few times on sweets. I'm really looking forward to a few "bad" foods this weekend after the competition, but on Monday I will get back to eating healthy again. I think what will work well for me is to eat around 1800 calories most days, but allow myself one or two days a week of "cheats" when I eat about 200-300 calories more. I think not being quite so strict will keep me from feeling deprived and binging.
