okay, it's now the end of September, I didn't make it back home to New Zealand as I had planned - instead I got called away to work out of town in a small place called Meekatharra. Not much here but they do have a gym which is a bonus. So things have changed and because there is not a lot to do in Meekatharra I can now focus on my health, no distractions - well not many...

I joined the local gym last Friday and aim to go every day after work, we work 3 weeks on, 1 week off. I have also added some cardio into the mix, Monday, Wednesday and Friday are strength training days with 15 minutes cardio and all the other days of the week I do 30 minutes minimum cardio.

On Sunday evening I had my last cigarette and so far I have done well ... it's been annoying me for a while now as everything else I do healthwise is fine but I was still smoking so I purposely bought a set amount of cigarettes with me and decided when they were finished I would quit...I also packed 7 Nicorette patches and a Nicorette spray to help me out...

Already I have noticed a difference, when I started doing the cardio I could do only 10km on the stationary bike in 30 minutes and that was a struggle...on Tuesday I completed 12km in 30 minutes, this morning I managed 15 minutes on the rowing machine and 15 minutes on the epileptical trainer which is a definite first for me...definitely a great confidence boost!

And that is what has been bugging me, because I was sure I would be able to do much better with my exercise if I could only stop smoking, now I just want to see how much more I can do each time I go to the's amazing!!!

It's also interesting to find that I am capable of doing more than I think I can, somebody once told me recently that I was capable of doing more than I do but I did not believe them until now ... in the gym where I live it has everything I need so when I came to this gym (small town) I couldn't find the 10kg dumbbells so not wanting to go lower I decided I would have to just go with the 12.5kg and do the best I could, to my surprise I managed my whole workout - it was a bit of a struggle but nothing I couldn't handle...

So far I have been here 2 weeks, I have changed my goal to be reached by December 31st 2014 and I am more focussed than I have ever been in my life...I was a bit down because I had been looking forward to my trip home (I have been here in Australia 1 year now) but now i'm thinking I made the right decision after all...this job will last approximately 18 months and I think the gym is going to keep me sane as well as healthy...

I am now into my 7th week of my body for life program, I started on christmas day 2012 at 103kg and now weigh 97kg.

(I keep a fat photo of myself on my phone as a visual reminder - now I show it to my mates as they don't believe I was quite big before) It has taken a while but I was just adjusting my weight tracker and realized I have nearly lost 100 lbs - My original top weight was 306 lbs and this is the first time I've gone below 98kg and my waist has gone below 40 inches - what a buzz!

Since joining the gym I have been out of town working quite a bit but I take my dumbbells and ankle/wrist weights along with me and my exercise ball to use as my bench. Whenever I am back in town I go to the gym at least every second day. It seems to be working okay.

My goal is to get down to 140lbs by September when I go back to NZ for a holiday - can't wait ... I am still clean eating but following the body for life program and have adjusted it to suit me and my lifestyle.


P.s. I'm feeling great, much, much healthier and a lot more confident than I have been for years and the best thing is my family back home and over here (mum and dad) are all getting into becoming healthier as well - I'm so glad I never completely gave up on myself!!!

It's been while but its good to be back! Since my last blog a lot has happened-it sure has been a tough year. The good news is through it all i have manajed to keep my weight between 106 - 100kg.

I moved to australia in late september,found a job outdoors (traffic control) and am steadily getting my life and myself back to how i want it to be.

At the beginning of december i was 106kg and now going into the new year i am 103kg after 3weeks of trying out clean eating and minimal exercise (my traffic control work is a lot less physical than my previous job in the orchards).

In the last week i joined the gym and am following the body for life programme as i had tried it years ago but only completed 6 weeks due to work commitments. This is what i have been working towards and now i'm finally getting my life back on track i am able to go ahead and do it ...

34 weeks and counting

34 weeks to go until my trip to oz next year ... Really going to focus now on getting rid of this excess weight.

I currently weigh just under 100kgs and hope to reach my goal by July 2012. I had to quit the gym due to unforeseen circumstances and recently started using my exercise ball again.

Exercise for me now consists of the abdoer twist, exercise ball and a whole lot of walking as well as working in the orchards which is quite physical.

To actually go under 100kgs is quite amazing as I haven't been this weight for years, about 20 years to be exact!!!

I actually believe now that I may reach my goal of 10 stone by July, 9.5 would be great but I would be happy with 10. This time I've worked everything out on paper so I can see it, I have photos on my phone to remind me how far I have come and a fat photo up by my mirror to remind me of how I use to feel ... right now I feel great ...

hi fellow sparkies,

has been a while since i stopped in ... only because i couldn't remember my username let alone my password and in the end it was so, so simple i could kick myself ...

i am still working in the orchards and my weight is fine - i haven't weighed in for a while but have just joined our local gym so will find out for sure in the next few days when i go through my assessments and do an update here ... should be interesting ...

i started work in the orchards in august 2010 and it has been awesome for my health in every way ... much better than my last job doing night shifts in a call centre type job, i can't believe i stayed at that job for 4 years!

anyhow in the past couple of months i became a supervisor and i now do much less work than i use to which is why i decided to join the gym again ... no space at home for my equipment, it's still packed away ...

i will stop in again within the next week or so and put in an update, bye for now
