Why is it when I lose, it's point 1, point 2, etc but when I gain, it's 1 pound, 2 pounds, etc.?

I gained.... 2.9 pounds... I mean I knew I was going to gain but why did it have to be so much? I exercised 5 days for 30 minutes each day, which is more than I have been doing. Shouldn't that have counteracted some of the weight gain? Sigh... it probably did... I probably really should have gained 5 pounds!

Why is losing weight so hard? And, gaining weight so easy?

Oh well, one step forward and two steps back and so I shall go on.

    (((Joanna))) ~ well, we had an idea....but I DO want to say that the 2.9 could very easily be a fluke too....I did an experiment once where I weighed every day for a couple weeks, and my weight fluctuated up by about 3 pounds for no apparent reason at all.....that's normal. It could be that if you weighed again tomorrow, you would have a totally different weight. It's just a number that is reflecting all Kinds of things in your body.

I feel ya tho on gaining so easily....I know I can put on weight easily, just Not exercising and I'll gain, but it takes a month and More to lose 5 pounds.

Good for you for putting this aside and moving forward. Are you doing any strength training? Do you have Spark generate strength workouts for you? you might try mixing up your exercise......last week, when I had a 'good' weigh in ~ I changed my workouts and mixed things up. I got out a workout I hadn't done in a while. Try to do something different this week.....sometimes that can make a difference.

And, it's no excuse I know, but I really think this is a very hard time of year to lose weight ~ I think our bodies just want to snuggle in to something soft and warm and hibernate for a while....so, we gotta shake em up!

Whoopee! {heavy sarcasm} Another point 2 pounds. Last week it was point 1. If I lose point 1 next week, I'll have lost a grand total of 20 pounds since January! It sure is frustrating to lose so slowly when I think I'm eating well and trying to exercise as much as possible given my sore knees!

    YAY Joanna! you are consistently going down ~ that's Wonderful! And 20 pounds down since January is quite a bit of weight off those sore knees! You are doing great. My weight loss is always slow too ~ but it is the healthy way to go. As far as doing all the exercise and careful eating and not seeing drastic results ~ remember that good stuff is going on INside too....blood pressure, cholesterol, all that stuff is being improved Inside. We should keep in our head that weight loss is a great Side effect of all this healthy living! lol.....maybe that way we will appreciate our smaller losses. Hugs kiddo!

    WOW ~ what a beautiful getaway! I love the all-inclusive vacation....we did that a long time ago and it was SO nice to not have to carry around money. The resort you linked is so pretty ~ the ocean looks gorgeous. This vacation you're planning is an excellent goal to keep you focused......and it will be a wonderful reward for all the hard work you've been doing.

I hear ya on not tempting fate with baking ~ I fell apart tonight...just wanted to feel really Full for a change and ate WAY too much junk. I'm just going to add a 1000 cals to my food tracker because I know I probably ate that much. Every once in a while I just lose my mind and consume great amounts of stuff. Oddly tho, I didn't indulge in my baked stuff ~ just some old candy in a drawer that caught my eye. Totally unplanned. Learned my lesson ~ nothing that's not planned from now on. I need to plan an island vacation instead! LOL

I'm kind of late posting this but I was really disappointed to only lose point 1 pounds considering that I had five hours of exercise last week and I drank my water and ate within my calories. Sigh...

    Aw, ((Joanna)) ~ I hear ya. I actually GAINED! not gobs, just "point" something....but, you know what? the next day it was down a little...I know I should Stay off the scale,but ~ what it tells us is that our weight fluctuates all the time for all Kinds of reasons. Don't feel down about the "point" loss as it could be anything ~ you may lose a lot more than you think next time. Anyway, if you've been doing everything right, you are heading in the right direction and will get there. I hate the little losses too ~ heck, I expected to have lost 2 pounds and then I saw that stupid gain...made me so mad I ALMOST really pigged out.....I am a big pig-out eater ~ just give me a reason to eat LOL.....but I'm getting better. I think the logging helps.

Anyway ~ you hang in there! it's slower for us compared to the 'young' ones. I hope you have a great weekend......I picked up a lot of cookbooks from the library and I finally got a book I'd requested long ago ~ that book about Anna Nicole, Blonde Ambition by Rita Cosby.....it seemed interesting at the time, but now I could not care less...that is until I started just a couple pages. Now I'm hooked in again. Embarrassing LOL.

Excerpts from a CAT'S DIARY

Day 983 of my captivity.

My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects.

They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while the other inmates and I are fed hash or some sort of dry nuggets. Although I make my contempt for the rations perfectly clear, I nevertheless must eat something in order to keep up my strength. The only thing that keeps me going is my dream of escape.

In an attempt to disgust them, I once again vomit on the carpet.

Today I decapitated a mouse and dropped its headless body at their feet. I had hoped this would strike fear into their hearts, since it clearly demonstrates what I am capable of. However, they merely made condescending comments about what a "good little hunter" I am.

There was some sort of assembly of their accomplices tonight. I was placed in solitary confinement for the duration of the event. However, I could hear the noises and smell the food. I overheard that my confinement was due to the power of "allergies." I must learn what this means, and how to use it to my advantage.

Today I was almost successful in an attempt to assassinate one of my tormentors by weaving around his feet as he was walking. I must try this again tomorrow -- but at the top of the stairs.

I am convinced that the other prisoners here are flunkies and snitches. The dog receives special privileges. He is regularly released - and seems to be more than willing to return. He is obviously retarded.

The bird has got to be an informant. I observe him communicate with the guards regularly. I am certain that he reports my every move. My captors have arranged protective custody for him in an elevated cell, so he is safe.
