WOOHOO! I'm on vacation for the next 2 weeks!

Thursday, June 26, 2008

And, today was my last day at work until July 14th. I started at 7:30 this morning and I finished at 4:30 this afternoon and only took half an hour for lunch. I got almost everything done. The rest will just have to wait until I return.

All I ask for is that it doesn't rain on Sunday as we're hosting a family BBQ and it can't be held indoors because half the people coming are allergic to cats and we have a cat.

We're also planning on going to Turkey Point on Lake Erie one day and I got a book out of the library called, "100 Unusual Things to See in Ontario" so we thought we'd check one or two of them out. Other than that, we're just going to hang out here.

And, I'll probably go swimming at my dad's house and at my sister's house one or two days.

Weekly Weigh-in and Back Update

Sunday, June 15, 2008

Wow! I'm down 4.7 pounds this week and i only did Pilates once. Imagine what I could do if I really exercised!

And, my back is feeling a lot better. Still a wee bit achy but compared to how it was, it's better. It's a muscle strain/spasm not cracked ribs, thank God!

Apparently, it's not RA

Wednesday, June 11, 2008

So, I went to see my doctor today and he's decided it's not RA that's giving me the pain in my scapula and rib cage. He thinks I've either strained a muscle or cracked a rib. He sent me for x-rays so we'll see (I guess). He's determined this because I'm currently on 40 mg of Prednisone and it's not helping at all.

Thanks for everyone's good wishes. I guess I'll just have to bear with it until it eases.

Oh good grief !!!!! I hope they find out soon what this pesky thing is. Is this the same pain that made you change RA meds not long ago?

Keep us updated, and keep taking care of yourself. I hope you get some relief soon.

Oh, the guilt....

Wednesday, June 11, 2008

I've been off work since Friday because of a flare. I started the drive to work Monday morning and again this morning because I know I need to get back there but the longer I'm awake, the more pain that I feel. It's so hard to know when it's time to go back to work. I KNOW that I'm more comfortable at home with my heating pad but I also KNOW that I need to get back to work because it's piling up. How much pain is enough to stay home? How little pain is enough to go to work? It's so hard to know. Sigh...

I'm sorry that your flare is lasting so long. There is a type of heating pad that you warm up in the microwave oven. It's portable. They are usually cloth and sold at kiosks in malls. Have you ever seen them? They are very helpful in allowing me to get relief when I'm outside of my home.

I'm so sorry that this flare isn't over yet. Is there any work you can do from home? Do you feel like working when you're at home? Can you cart those heating pads to work? ( I'm not sure how much you're in the public eye at work)

Have you talked to your doctor since this started? Maybe a dose of steroids would help get things rolling. I hope you feel lots better soon.

It's been awhile since I've posted. Re blog title, I've been drinking a lot of green tea because I heard it was anti-inflammatory and I truly believe it is. I've been having a flare in my rib cage and shoulder blades since May 30th and on the days when I drank a lot of green tea, it just wasn't as bad. Psychosomatic? Maybe. But, if it works, who cares!

May 30th and 31st (Friday and Saturday) and June 5th (Thursday) and last night were the worst. I've been using my heating pads a lot and they really help but I've got to say that using a heating pad and having a hot flash is not pleasant.

Also, we started a new challenge last Sunday and even though I haven't had much exercise this week due to the flare, I lost a pound so I can't complain.

I hope everyone else is doing well.

Crystal Light makes a great green tea that you add to your bottled water....lemon and raspberry flavors. Lipton also makes one as well with some different flavors. I've been drinking a lot of the green tea as well, it's refreshing and helps get you get the water you need as well. I don't know if it's helping me but it tastes good!

Congratulations on the weight loss! I'm sorry you're having problems with the flares, though. Have you tried ThermaCare heat wraps? They allow you to move around while you're using them - so you're not tied to a chair while waiting for the heat to take effect.

I'm so sorry your ribs hurt. That happens to me sometimes too. I agree, I think green tea helps. I've also started making my own Turmeric capsules..( that yellow spice used in curry) and I think that is helping too. I buy empty capsules at the health food store, (the largest) and just fill them with the spice. Right now, I'm taking two a day. Thought I would pass that on, since you are also trying natural approaches.

Is your green tea hot or iced? Does it make a difference with the anti-inflammatory properties? I've tried hot green tea, and it just taste so weak. Do you use flavored teas? Any suggestions, brand names, etc?

Glad you're feeling better, and I'm with you...if it helps, then do it.
