Ode to My Wonderful Husband

We went to Port Stanley this week (about 1 and a half hours away from our house) and I have a bad habit of always forgetting something wherever I go. And, this time, I forgot my heating pad at the hotel we stayed at so my wonderful husband volunteered to go back for it. Of course, he got a motorcycle ride in too, so that didn't hurt.

And, then on Friday, he found my favourite popsicle (ice pop to you Americans, I think) that's really hard to find around here (they're called Superman popsicles and they're grape and cherry combined into one popsicle and I love them). Anyway, he found 11 boxes of them at a grocery store in Waterdown (about half an hour away) and bought all 11 boxes of them for me! Cool, eh?

And, then yesterday, he went bread hunting for me. I quit eating wheat in March because it appears to cause inflammation, which is bad for me and I found this really good spelt bread by Stonehill Bakery that I like. It's two slices for 130 calories and it tastes a lot like my old whole wheat bread. When I went grocery shopping last time, the only store in our area that I've seen it at didn't have any so I had to have this other spelt bread that is 110 calories a slice and that doesn't have a very good flavour to it. Well, my darling husband went to two stores and found 3 loaves of it for me. He is so good to me and I don't know what I would do without him.

Also, yesterday, I woke up with my left knee in excruciating pain. It felt like my knees felt when I was originally diagnosed with RA in 2004 and I didn't know why it felt this way yesterday. It wasn't damp or humid. After much deliberation, we determined it might very well have been from the portobello burger than I had for dinner the previous night. So, we got the box out of the recycling bin and lo and behold, the third ingredient was wheat flour!

My husband waited on me hand and foot yesterday because it hurt to get around and I love him so much.


p.s. this photo of him is after he had a bicycle accident so that's why he's all bandaged up. I wanted to post a photo I have of him with his motorcycle but I guess it's too big because it wouldn't let me.

It is wonderful to have someone take care of you especially when you are in pain. Make sure you let him know you appreciate it as well.

WOOHOO! I'm on vacation for the next 2 weeks!

And, today was my last day at work until July 14th. I started at 7:30 this morning and I finished at 4:30 this afternoon and only took half an hour for lunch. I got almost everything done. The rest will just have to wait until I return.

All I ask for is that it doesn't rain on Sunday as we're hosting a family BBQ and it can't be held indoors because half the people coming are allergic to cats and we have a cat.

We're also planning on going to Turkey Point on Lake Erie one day and I got a book out of the library called, "100 Unusual Things to See in Ontario" so we thought we'd check one or two of them out. Other than that, we're just going to hang out here.

And, I'll probably go swimming at my dad's house and at my sister's house one or two days.

Weekly Weigh-in and Back Update

Wow! I'm down 4.7 pounds this week and i only did Pilates once. Imagine what I could do if I really exercised!

And, my back is feeling a lot better. Still a wee bit achy but compared to how it was, it's better. It's a muscle strain/spasm not cracked ribs, thank God!

Apparently, it's not RA

So, I went to see my doctor today and he's decided it's not RA that's giving me the pain in my scapula and rib cage. He thinks I've either strained a muscle or cracked a rib. He sent me for x-rays so we'll see (I guess). He's determined this because I'm currently on 40 mg of Prednisone and it's not helping at all.

Thanks for everyone's good wishes. I guess I'll just have to bear with it until it eases.

    Oh good grief !!!!! I hope they find out soon what this pesky thing is. Is this the same pain that made you change RA meds not long ago?

I've been off work since Friday because of a flare. I started the drive to work Monday morning and again this morning because I know I need to get back there but the longer I'm awake, the more pain that I feel. It's so hard to know when it's time to go back to work. I KNOW that I'm more comfortable at home with my heating pad but I also KNOW that I need to get back to work because it's piling up. How much pain is enough to stay home? How little pain is enough to go to work? It's so hard to know. Sigh...

    Joanna,
I'm sorry that your flare is lasting so long. There is a type of heating pad that you warm up in the microwave oven. It's portable. They are usually cloth and sold at kiosks in malls. Have you ever seen them? They are very helpful in allowing me to get relief when I'm outside of my home.

    I'm so sorry that this flare isn't over yet. Is there any work you can do from home? Do you feel like working when you're at home? Can you cart those heating pads to work? ( I'm not sure how much you're in the public eye at work)

Have you talked to your doctor since this started? Maybe a dose of steroids would help get things rolling. I hope you feel lots better soon.
