Remarkable Statue

Tuesday, February 15, 2011

Do you know what this is or where this is?

THE STATUE:

This statue currently stands outside the Iraqi palace, now home to the 4th Infantry division. It will eventually be shipped home and put in the memorial museum in Fort Hood, Texas .

The statue was created by an Iraqi artist named Kalat, who for years was forced by Saddam Hussein to make the many hundreds of bronze busts of Saddam that dotted Baghdad .

Kalat was so grateful for the Americans liberation of his country; he melted 3 of the heads of the fallen Saddam and made the statue as a memorial to the American soldiers and their fallen warriors.

Kalat worked on this memorial night and day for several months.

To the left of the kneeling soldier is a small Iraqi girl giving the soldier comfort as he mourns the loss of his comrade in arms.

Do you know why we don't hear about this in the news? Because it is heart warming and praise worthy. The media avoids it because it does not have the shock effect. But we can do something about it. We can pass this along to as many people as we can in honor of all our brave military who are making a difference.

And please pass this on!

What a remarkable tribute to our troops... It is good to know that some Iraqi's are glad we are there.

Thanks for sharing Betsy!

We can't have good news on the news, just hate, killin' and discontent!

Rape, pillage and burn,

Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts don't help little ol' ladies 'cross the street anymore, NOT

Not on the news anyway

Thanks Betsy

Wow...so many people under Saddam's regime were forced to do things that they would not have done otherwise. I liken him to Hitler. My ex son-in-law is stationed at Fort Hood. He will be able to see this statue every day....

Guilty with an explanation - Girlfriends will Appreciate this one!

Thursday, February 10, 2011

We can all appreciate this one!!!

At my recent assault trial, I offered a plea of “Guilty BUT with an explanation.”
The judge asked me what my explanation was, so I told my story.
Your Honour, I said, I had a mammogram appointment, which I actually kept. I was met with: “Hi! I'm Belinda!” This perky clipboard carrier smiled from ear to ear, tilted her head to one side and crooned, “All I need you to do is step into this room right here, strip to the waist, then slip on this gown. Everything clear?” I'm thinking, Belinda, try decaf. This ain't rocket science. Belinda skipped away to prepare the chamber of horrors.

With the right side finished, Belinda flipped me (literally) to the left and said, “Hmmmm. Can you stand on your tippy toes and lean in a tad so we can get everything?” “Fine”, I answered. I was freezing, bruised, and out of air, so why not use the remaining circulation in my legs and neck and finish me off? My body was in a holding pattern that defied gravity (with my other breast wedged between those two 4 inch pieces of square glass) when we heard, then felt a zap!
Complete darkness and the power went off!

Oh, maintenance is working. Bet they hit a snag. Belinda said, and headed for the door.
Excuse me! You're not leaving me in this vice alone are you? I shouted.
Belinda kept going and said, “Oh, you fussy puppy...the door's wide open so you'll have the emergency hall lights. I'll be right back.”

Before I could shout “NOOOO!” she disappeared. And that's exactly how Bubba and Earl, the maintenance men extraordinaire, found me ...... half-naked with part of me dangling from the Jaws of Life, and the other part smashed between glass!

After exchanging a polite “Hi, how's it going” type greeting, Bubba (or possibly Earl) asked, to my utter disbelief, if I knew the power was off. Trying to disguise my hysteria, I replied with as much calmness as possible “Uh, yes, yes I did thanks.”

“You bet, take care” Bubba replied and waved good-bye as though I'd been standing in the line at the grocery store.

Two hours later, Belinda breezes in wearing a sheepish grin. Making no attempt to suppress her amusement, she said, “Oh I am sooo sorry! The power came back on and I totally forgot about you! And silly me, I went to lunch. Are we upset?”

And that, Your Honour, is exactly how her head ended up between the clamps....."
The judge could hardly contain her laughter as she said “Case Dismissed!!”.

Oh gosh I'm about to go for a mammo this week- that's my biggest nightmare! But really, I know that if the power goes off, the clamps release.

It is one of the most AWKWARD exercises there is, let alone when the POWER'S OFF! Yes, the tech needed to end up in some kind of debilitating grip herself!! I would have put Bubba's special parts in there too.

A big WhooHoo for the Judge! Honestly she wouldn't have had to leave me in the machine for 2 hours to wind up with her head in the clamps. I was appalled when she left the door open. I have had some pretty bad mammogram experiences but thankfully nothing this bad. Thanks for the funny story. WhooHoo for the Judge!

(just a quick aside--when I first got on SP and saw the emoticon below, I thought it was a bed pan--anyone besides me see that?)
