HOLY CRAP! ME A MOTIVATOR?

Monday, October 13, 2008

Well, I have to say that I was taken aback by one of my Spark emails this morning. It informed me that I had been VOTED a SparkPeople motivator. I am deeply touched by this. I even got a little misty eyed. I am very honored by this distinction and hope that I can continue to help those who want help. I truly believe that anyone can get their weight under control and live a healthier life without surgery, pills or gimmicks. Look at me, I'm living proof. Look all around SP there are TONS (pun again) of motivators.

THANKS TO ALL WHO VOTED FOR ME. I hope to never let you down.

Ride On & a great week!

Sunday, October 12, 2008

Well, it seems that there may be something to this style of weight loss after all. I dropped another 1.6 pounds this week! This has been typically a week that I would maintain and the follow it with about a 3-4 pound loss the following week. I guess we will see what this next week brings.

I had the chance to ride in a 25-mile charity event yesterday for Breast Cancer awareness. It was a perfect autumn day and the ride was challenging, but it was for a good cause. I have done a couple 5K's this year and then this bike ride yesterday. If you haven't done any types of these events I strongly encourage you. At first I was a bit nervous about the 5K because I didn't want to be bringing up the rear, but my fear was unfounded. There usually are walkers that will finish after you if you do any jogging during the event. And so what if you are last? You still walked 3.1 miles and got to meet some new people. You will be amazed at how quickly the time will pass. Some good music, a nice sunny day and be overjoyed that you can do something that you couldn't before. When I first started out exercising 15 minutes on the treadmill was about all I could take. Now I look forward to the next challenge. Don't be afraid to push the limits!
Peace

emoticonon another 1.6 lbs gone !!
I've done a couple 5km walks - one for cancer research too, after someone close to me had passed away after a short and extremely horrible fight with pancreatic cancer. I'd love to someday be able to run in one, but right now a runner I am not. I think this is where my pride gets in my way - if I can't run all of it, or know that I'd finish in a decent time, I'd rather just walk the whole way. Good job for you - it helps to show your progress and also helps in setting goals to be met in the future :)

Hard work paying off?

Sunday, October 05, 2008

Well, it's the end of another crazy week with a crazier weekend. I'm waiting for next week to see if this "Biggest Loser" style of diet is working for me. I have remained strict except for one meal on Saturday. If you look at my food log it's all there. The good (fruit, veggie, etc) & the bad (pizza, ice cream, candy, etc). I'm actually hoping to get both of my kickboxing classes in this coming week. Past two weeks the "exercise devil" has gotten the best of me. First week migraine, this past week flat tire on the way to class. Oh, well we've all had road blocks that put use out, but I don't dwell on it. I do have to report that I've gained some "followers". I'm very open about my challenge and wanting to help people. My wife has decided to join me and I think that my mother-in-law is as well. I couldn't be prouder of them to finally make this decision. I also had the gal who cut my hair the other day call me the "diet guru!" I just had to laugh, but I tried to give her advice. My wife says that there are tons (no pun intended) of people who could stand to benefit from my experience. I just look at it as life anymore, but I have learned a lot over the past 4 years. Maybe I'll write a book and go on Oprah! The wife would love that at least. Thanks for your time.
Peace.

WooHoo! Hard work pays off!

Saturday, September 27, 2008

Well, I'm unsure if it's the extra hard work this week or if it's my normal pattern. I dropped 3 pounds this week. Now, I have changed my diet by cutting more calories per day. I'm going to try a "crazy" cheat meal this week al'a Biggest Loser. Not an entire day mind you, but a meal or dessert. Last weekend I had a banana split and the world didn't end. This weekend a sundae of some variety. If you can't tell I'm an ice cream fanatic and most of the ice cream shops are closing for the season around here. Everything with moderation (or an extra @ss whipping workout) is fine. I burned 1300 calories while riding my bike this morning. Some things don't even feel like exercise. It was a cloudy, crisp morning and fresh air was cranked to 10. It's almost a Zen thing. Just like running, you get lost inside yourself somewhere and you tune out the environment. Of course you have to be mindful of the giant 2+ ton machines out there as well. Once you push past the "I don't think I can go much further" your body adjusts and asks "what do you need me to do?" If you're not the type of person to push yourself past this point you need a trainer or a buddy. Your body cannot change without pushing past it's normal limits.
I've started to preach. I'll step down now.
Peace

I've done the 'cheat meal' thing with Body for life...but I have a hard time sticking with a meal. It seems to just continue...then 3 days later I wonder what happened lol. I do have something once in awhile, but I plan ahead and track it first and end up in my range for the day.
I have seen a trainer just a couple times, but I had to let that slide in the spring for various reasons. After a 4+ month requested leave of absence from work, I'm working on getting back to that - it'll maybe be a sadistic kind of reward for me for the new year or something.

You've been doing great - keep it up!

"Your body cannot change without pushing past it's normal limits. "

Especially since my body's normal limit was sitting on the couch watching TV.... Exercise was laundry and dishes.

So glad the world didn't end with the banana split! Enojoy your treat this weekend!

Biggest Weekend Yet!

Friday, September 12, 2008

Ok, last weekend was great. I finally broke out of the 300's and I got to meet Bill Germanakos, winner of Season 4 Biggest Loser! My company held it's annual family festival with wellness fair. At this years wellness fair the had fitness guru Richard Simmons & Bill Germanakos. I mostly wanted to meet Bill though; ever since seeing him and his twin brother on-stage at the season finale. I had never actually thought about what size I wanted to be or what I wanted to look like when I complete this journey. When I finally got near meeting him I didn't quite know what to say. Well, I had my cheering section with me, my wife and daughter. Bill welcomed us and asked if we were black-team fans. Before I could even say anything my wife spits out "I would like you to meet my husband Bill, he has lost over 235 pounds all on his own." I wasn't quite sure of what his reaction would be, but he jumped up and wanted a picture with me! He has given me his personal email and would like a copy of the photo plus a "before" shot to add to his webpage. I was almost in tears. Here I am to see a weight-loss "hero" of mine and he is taken with my story. He explained that some of the things that they don't show you on the show. The male contestants are on a strict 1800 calorie per day diet 6-days per week. On day seven, weigh-in day, they have a crazy cheat day. He said that he may take in around 4,000 calories on that day. It was one of the best weight-loss weekends yet. Keep pushing.
