Surprised Myself

Tuesday, October 11, 2011

I did something that I never EVER thought I would do... I signed up for a seven class sampler at a new fitness center that opened up near me! It was a deal through the LivingSocial site. It includes One Aerial Yoga, One Pole Fitness, One Jukari Fit to Fly, One Jukari Fit to Flex, One Yoga, One Zumba, and One Turbo Kick! I am really interested to try all of the different workouts (not so much the 'pole fitness" lol) The ones that are Cirque du Soleil-ish just look like pure fun. I may get kicked out for giggling...

I hope to try a class a week to mix things up and get out a bit. I am a solo/home exerciser, but couldn't turn down the chance to try aerial yoga! lol

About three hours until I leave for job #2!!

So what's the follow up with these sampler classes?? Which ones did you like the best? have you kept up with any of them? hope you are still giggling because giggling is a form of "internal jogging".

I got the job! AND they offered me what I was expecting, so it was good news. I have to go in tomorrow afternoon to meet with them. I don't officially start until the 21st, but I need to go in a few days to get acquainted with the projects I'll be taking over and to meet some of the people I'll be working with. Since it's filling in for a maternity leave, I need to get up to speed as soon as possible in case the baby decides to come sooner!

But now that starting the second job is looming... my stomach is in knots worrying about keeping myself in line working two jobs. I was always a desk snacker. You know the person that sits at their desk and you can hear the crinkling of snack wrappers coming from their cube all day... that was me! (lol) Even if I end up snacking on healthier things, it can add up!

I plan to track ahead of time, pre-package meals and snacks, and avoid temptation at all costs. (Eek! Vendors bringing in cookies and donuts. Lunch meetings always involve pizza. Torture!!) I just can't go back to the awful processed foods of my past - Lean Cuisines are yummy, but don't even keep me full for 5 minutes after I eat them! Maybe batch cooking a bit. :)

I realize that this is burning my candle at both ends... keeping up with workouts will be killer with two jobs. I couldn't pass up the opportunity to get out of the house more and get a steady income from a part-time job. Hopefully this will help with some of the house and vehicle repairs we have been holding off on, not to mention the holidays and related expenses.

So does anybody have any tips or secrets that help to stay on track with working a lot, busy life, etc? I've been SPOILED with self-employment and the ability to cook fresh meals breakfast, lunch and dinner daily. I certainly don't think I'll have as much time on SparkPeople to plan, but I'll try my best!

Here's hoping that it's great week for you all!

    I got this one!

CELERY spread with peanut butter, which can stay at room temperature. Make 'em up, stash 'em in a plastic sandwich size box and keep them on your desk. Crunchy protein..yum. Celery spread with flavored lite cream cheese is good too, but you may not like it at room temp.

PRETZELS really fill me up fast and for awhile. Try Snyders Sourdough Fat Free Nibblers. A serving counted out into a snack bag when you hear the pizza is being ordered should actually help you avoid the pizza 'cause you won't be hungry when it arrives.

Got a fridge at work? Try greek yogurt with a quarter cup of granola for lunch. High protein and a good crunch, especially if you're craving something sweet.

Let me know if any of these work for you. These are my favorites these days.

I am happy and excited for you! The new job seems like a desire come take the opportunity to be thankful and enjoy your accomplishment.

I have found that understanding how difficult it is to lose weight helps tremendously in making decisions on what I am eating. It sounds like you have all the tools, the key is planning and creating the time to use them.

Truth be told, there is no snack, donut or cookie worth the journey it took to move from where you were and didnt want to be to where you are today. Keep that in mind and schedule, schedule, schedule to keep you nutrition and fitness a priority!

Wishing you all the best and keep us in the loop...periodically with how you are keeping things in balance!

Getting Close!!

Monday, October 03, 2011

I was over at my brother and SIL's house to watch my niece this evening so my SIL could go to her Zumba class and my brother was still in class. I usually weigh in at their house since I don't own a scale and don't feel the need to own one. I had to step on the scale a couple of times before I would believe it!! I lost 4 more pounds in the past month! (And I logged my weight in WITH heavier clothing on since it is cold now: long sleeved T, hoodie, and long yoga pants with socks.) I always have the hope to lose a pound a week, and give it my all with tracking and working out when I am able. And it is working!! (weighing myself usually once a month or longer.) My original goal was to lose 33 pounds by October 19 and I have lost 31.8 already. I adjusted my goal to lose an additional 5 pounds beyond that - my original goal was pretty close to the upper BMI range. My new goal is still about 15 pounds more than I've weighed in my adult life, but I do LOVE my feminine curves and don't want to look like a twig, ha, ha. So I only have another 6.2 pounds left to shed. I'm leaving my goal pretty open-ended. If I lose these last pounds before the end of the year, I'll be completely satisfied. I have found that weekly weigh-ins, and setting hard goals get discouraging for me. I just give it my all and am honest with myself about what I eat and how hard I am working out. I actually ended up taking a week off from working out. I really focused on my eating and getting at least 8 hours of sleep and POOF! bye-bye four pounds.

I'm sorry... I'm totally gushing right now. I only have one-sixth of my goal remaining until I have to learn all about maintaining!!

I have to thank all of you SparkFriends for your support and advice. I never had such a support system before and it has really helped encourage me along. I wish I had more time to be as helpful to others as you have been to me!! I need to start a new goal to set aside even 30 minutes, a few days a week, to reach out more to you all.

A Scary Reminder!

Monday, October 03, 2011

I figured I would put this out as a reminder to all of my SparkFriends: My DH's Aunt was found unconscious in her home yesterday. She was overcome by carbon monoxide and was rushed to the hospital to get into an oxygen chamber. Luckily she was found before it was too late, but they think she's been getting poisoned over a long period of time. One of her sister's had purchased and given the afflicted aunt a CO detector a while back that she never bothered to use!

She was still having some issues with numbness in her leg the last I had heard. They think she twisted it when she collapsed. Please pray for her full recovery AND please change your CO detector batteries OR get a CO detector! This was a scary reminder that I hadn't changed my battery in at least two years...
