life is full of choices

Saturday, August 14, 2010

Life is full of choices. Daily we are faced with choices. I went to our family reunion yesterday evening and today. I'm sure you can only imagine the choices I faced..
Aunt freda's casserole, or garden veggies.... Heathers dessert or moms.... I'm sure you get the picture...Sitting here looking back on the day, I have decided that I am going to focus on the goooood decisions that I made.

1. I exercised both days and I have decided a walk in the country is good for the soul.
2. I made a conscious decision to eat more fruits and veggies and drink my water.
3. I chose my fattening food items very carefully and allowed myself only one serving of dessert .
4. I limited myself to a few bites of the high calorie foods . ( the first few bites taste the best anyway)
5. I think most importantly I did not treat it like and all you can eat buffet.
6. I wrote down (as accurately as I could) all foods I could remember. It is difficult to record those bites, licks and tastes.... At least I made an effort to reduce my intake.

Yes, I did go over slightly on calories today and I was under on friday. The point is, I made choices. Many good choices. emoticon

Dear pounds lost,

I am writing to you today to tell you that you are NO LONGER WELCOME IN MY LIFE! I am soooo glad that you are gone and I forbid you to return !

I can honestly say that I am better off without you. The Burden of carrying you around has caused me much grief and anxiety. Many tears I have shed because you have caused me heartache, and aggravation. BUT NO MORE!

Without you I can breathe better, I have more energy and my clothes fit better!

P.S. If you even THINK about attaching yourself to my fellow Sparkies, I will hunt you down and beat you with my ugly stick!!!!!!!!

Life is not measured by the breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away...

Monday, August 02, 2010

This morning when I got up, I took my coffee outside to my back porch. I sat there alone. No one around. Before long my mind began to wander .... I began thinking about all the things I needed to do today. The stove wasn't working . I would defiantly have to deal with that... Laundry , dishes, supper... What would I make without my stove... Just then Sandy turned the corner. She came running straight for me! (Sandy is our labrador retriever). She was so happy to see me. (I think maybe a senior moment had set in because I had just let her out of the house 15 minutes before that. lol) Anyway, She made me smile. And then I Laughed! Oh my goodness. I wish I could be more like her. Not a care in the world. I took a deep breath and closed my eyes. I could hear the birds singing, I could smell the flowers on the table.... When I opened my eyes, Every thing looked brighter. All of a sudden I was struck by how beautiful everything looked..... Life is Good. God is Good. I am blessed. End of story.
P.S. I fixed the stove myself without a repairman and I managed to fit in an hour of exercise. Yay! emoticon

Finding the best in the moment... I don't know why we so often forget to remember how blessed we really are in life. I'm trying to just "stay present" to now more often than before. And, I loved that the expression of what sounds like pure adoration and joy on your Sandy's face lit up your world! What if we loved ourselves and each other the way our dogs love us?! Can you imagine how different our lives would be? emoticon

gotta love a labs smiley face. I lost my best chocolate Buddy, 2 years ago. I still miss him every day. There was nobody like him. He was so smart and sweet and taught my granddog, Stitch, so much. And I am proud of you for fixing that stove! doesnt that feel great when you dont need anyone else, especially a man, to fix something for you? Great feeling!

Good for you on all counts!!! Sometimes it takes a furry friend to just make everything all right, or at least almost! (You can see one of mine Missy, on my Spark Page if you wish! She's my girl and you wouldn't believe the help she's been all her life and especially the last few years!) Silky, my Pom helps as best as she can but Missy gives her whole heart!!! Animals don't care if it's rain, shine, light, dark, there they are!!! Stove working or not. They don't mind if it's cold! LOL!!!

Reward Time!!

Friday, July 30, 2010

Well, its almost the end of the month and i have decided that it is time for some special " me time." As a mother of three, wife, and hospice nurse I give alot of my time to others. I remember my nursing instructor asking me why I wanted to be a nurse and my reply was " I want to help people ". Even at 21, it was always about someone else. Now, at 40 there is always someone needing something from me. LOL.
Today, I am taking time out for me. I am going to the salon to have my highlights touched up. I am celebrating today because ......
1. I have lost 19 pounds!
2. I have exercised at least 20 minutes a day every day this month.
3. I am making healthier choices.(my family is too!!!)
4. I have reorganized my kitchen to make it easier to pack lunches and fix meals.
5. I now measure and weigh my foods to control portions.
6. I am now easily drinking 8 glasses of water a day.
And most of all, I am celebrating because I am me. I am free to make choices , I am free to love, and I am free to Live life to the fullest!!! emoticon
