weight loss and work update

Wednesday, September 03, 2014

Hi everyone! Missing the good old days. Hope all is well with all of you! I haven't been on here for a while so I thought I would blog to let you all know what's going on with me.
I started Midnights (3 12 hour shifts a week) and I am much enjoying my days off! Today is the first day of 6 off, happy girl right here! emoticon
I am planning to enjoy some of this "almost fall" weather. emoticon

As for the work, I have always enjoyed being a nurse. Hands on care. front line, so to speak. The work is hard but at the end of the day, I feel like I have made a difference. One smile, One laugh, a small word of encouragement. I have always felt like that is why God sent me on this path. My feet are still adjusting to the long shifts and I am struggling to find "just the right shoe". Still learning everyday but still feel like this was a great decision. Time with my family is priceless. Here today, gone tomorrow.

Since June 30th, I have lost 11 pounds! Yay emoticon
I had a sinus infection in August. on antibiotic for 20 days and some whooping doses of steroids. Had two teeth filled last week. feeling much better.

Hoping to make it on the trail tomorrow! emoticon

HOW ARE YOU????

I'm so glad that the work balance is falling into place. We spend too much time working to not be happy.

This is the best time of year for biking, if you ask me!

Time off

Friday, May 30, 2014

Well Ladies, I've finally taken the plunge. I have been incredibly unhappy for about a year now. Struggling with with decisions. I have excepted a new job!

I am going back to the hospital where I started out my nursing career. I am going to work 3 x 12 hr shifts . I need my life back! I need time off! Right now I am finding myself working 5x12 hr shifts, so anything would be an improvement.

I don't start till June 30th so I am waiting a couple of weeks to put in my two week notice. a little birdie told me that when you put your notice in with my current position they don't let you work out your notice, so a month off is a little long for our finances.

So there is light at the end of the tunnel! emoticon

Hope you all are doing well. you will be seeing much more of me soon! hugs. T

DECIDING is 90% of the process. Good luck in your job change. Be sure to be a good role model of healthy living for all around you to watch you. I'm amazed at the number of unhealthy examples on the staff of my hospital when I go in for advice.

Time passing by

Sunday, May 04, 2014

Hi sparkfriends. I cant believe its been a month since I've been on. Hope everyone that's on and reading this is enjoying the signs of spring. I thought I would write a blog to let everyone know what's been going on in my life.

As some of you know, I have been struggling with my job since starting with the new company in November. Lots of changes, difficulties and challenges. Working long hours. adjusting to full time.

I am finally settling in to my new role. I have decided to give it a few more months. I have had a few job opportunities, one in a similar role that I'm in now. Nothing that stands out so I am going to stay put for a while. It has gotten easier but I am not sure marketing is my thing. But for now, I am where I am suppose to be.

as for my home life. things are ok. Not home as much as I like. My daughter is graduating next weekend from college. emoticon I am excited for her but I cant lie, I'm feeling old. Very Old. lol.

The boys are good. Logan begged for Chickens so that's our newest project. We have Chickens!!! 15 of them. The guys are building the coop. We have 3 more weeks until it needs to be done and they need to be out of the brooder. they are cute little things. I must say I have gotten great enjoyment out of them( I am a bird lover) so why not chickens? emoticon

As for my weight. Not so good. I've actually gained a few pounds recently. Evaluating my eating patterns and habits.

My goal is to get on sparkpeople 3 times this week.
I am going to try and eat breakfast daily and drink 4 bottles of water a day.

Small steps to healthy living.

What's your plan?

    Best laid plans….
Deal-- Every time you see an egg…. think of me! And I'll do the same.
See you here 3x a week. Good goal. I've not been keeping up to my "every day vow"… and Remember the Spark adage…: Set ATTAINABLE GOALS… so… okay, T, 3x a week. Here. Love and Connection. emoticon Cheers, P

Good to hear from you Tricia! Glad the job is getting better for you...hope it all works out.
emoticon to your daughter !
Chickens are fun, but I hope it is for the eggs and not the meals of them that you are working toward. I couldn't kill anything I got attached to! I remembered how traumatized I was as a young girl when I watched my aunt break the neck of one of their chicken! UGH!
Good for you checking in with SP...you are missed! Stay strong with your goals! Even little changes can make a difference.
I gained 11 pounds over 6 months for various reasons...one of which I think was the sweets addiction and I was having some every day! BAD! So my husband and I decided 11 days ago...no sweets and so far so good! We may allow dark chocolate down the road, which is good for you. But, being a trigger food, it will be a long time before I allow a treat like that! Eating more healthy too and eliminating sugar or lowering it from other foods too!
Have a great week!! emoticon emoticon

Chickens! That must be fun and, I hope, not too much work.
Glad to see you here. Keep going and don't worry too much about a few pounds. The fact that you are here blogging about it means you'll have them under control in no time!
Stay strong!

So glad to see you back! You think seeing daughter graduate from college makes you feel old, wait until it is granddaughters!

My plan is to get back to exercise and outdoor stuff after gallbladder and hernia surgery. It's been 10 days and I am just now getting back to normal (or whatever is normal for me!)

I hope your job situation settles down and you can actually enjoy the situation! Good luck!

I loved having chickens - we had 5. One got out and my dogs got her - I harassed my DH to do something about the coop. He didn't get to it quickly enough and two days later another got out and the dogs got her. They didn't kill her, thankfully. I put a splint on her broken leg and all four went to a better home, lol!

reaching out for recipes

Sunday, February 09, 2014

Hi everyone! I am working full time now and I'm reaching out for support. I am struggling with how to get everything done. I have always been fortunate to work part time but recently upgraded to full time status.... I have been putting in 40 hrs plus a week and I am praying that as I get the hang of the job, the requirement will be less. I miss you all bunches.... I miss time at home taking care of things and I hate delegating .
I really am looking to you all for your go to recipes. I love my crockpot. Do you all have anything that you love and make every week? all suggestions appreciated. Sending you much Love. Tricia emoticon emoticon

I'm not a big crock pot user Tricia, so I can't help you out there. I know if you do some research on some of the cooking sites like cooking light or skinny kitchen or even some of the cooking sites like allrecipes.com, you'll find loads of recipes that your family would love. I think just about anything type of food does well in a crockpot. I've made corned beef & cabbage recently in the crockpot & it was delish! I also have a baby back rib recipe that I made in the pot & it is yummy! Oh wait, I have a chicken one that's delish! I'll hunt it down & pass it along to you in sparkmail! Hang in there w/work my friend...it can be a bit much changing from PT to FT. You'll catch on! Good luck!

    Still thinking here :

Make a schedule of meals on Sunday and post it on the fridge where everybody sees it. No calls of What's for dinner etc....

You can make of list of items needed fresh to pick up at the store

Delegate a certain night for soup and sandwiches.... I still love a good BLT, pastrami and cheese, or grilled cheese sandwich. Make it a little special with a slice of ham and tomato etc.... Avocado on a blt is good also.

Breakfast for dinner ...... Eggs Benedict with ham and Spinach, Blueberry pancakes, potato pancakes (I buy the box kind that you just add water and an egg)with breakfast sausage, applesauce and a dollop of sour cream. (My Dad'd favorite with a side of english muffin)

Taco night - You can brown the meat on Sunday for the week ahead and reheat.

Break out the grill - hamburgers, a side salad and french fries or potato salad from the deli.

Make your own pizza night...... Go ahead and use a boboli or refrigerated dough. You have worked all day!!!

    Hey Tricia,

The crockpot will become your best friend. I always buy my meat on sale then freeze it for later use. Some of the local stores up here in the Boston area have 5 for $20 or $25 meat package deals. You can mix and match. I almost always grab the marinated porktenderloins by Hormel usually. Lots of different flavors. Italian, Terriyakki, honey mustard. I buy the biggest ones I can. Normally marked at $12 to $14 but pay only $5.00 for each. Depending on the flavor I throw these in the crockpot, sometimes 2 at a time, with mushrooms, baby carrots, quartered carrots, red potatoes. The terriyakki one I add sliced pineapple and onion etc... or the easiest is to throw in just as is and shred it when you get home and add your fav barbecue sauce for sandwiches. If I do that I place large rings of onion on top of the tenderloin so they cook down and can be used as a topping on your sandwich if you want it. All these can cook on low 8 to 9 hrs etc.. or high 3 to 4.

I have a huge collection of crockpot recipes on my computer. Many are WW so let me know if your looking for something in particular.

Our favorite is cilantro lime chicken for tacos... Did I share that with you yet?
It's really simple
Just chicken breast or thighs, can of rotel, at least 1/4 C. of lime juice (we usually juice about 3 limes), about 1 Tbsp dried cilantro or you can use a bunch of fresh, season with salt, pepper, cumin and garlic, just cover with chicken broth, cook on med/lo for all day. Shred chicken and serve on tortillas. emoticon

1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
1/2 red onion, thinly sliced
2 tomatoes, chopped

Sprinkle fish with salt and pepper; drizzle with olive oil.
Squeeze juice from lemon over fish.
Bring parchment paper or foil sides up over mixture; double fold top and sides to seal, making packets.
Place packets on a baking sheet.
Bake at 400° for 15 to 20 minutes.
Place each packet on a plate, and cut open.
Sprinkle fish with basil.
Serve with brown rice or pasta because the packet juices are delicious.
