Before and After, its amazing now I can see the difference!!!

Friday, November 19, 2010

I have been thinking for weeks now that I just can't see any changes to my body, but I do feel more energized and have been getting a great nights sleep everynight. However, maybe I am being vain but I really am working hard to LOOK and FEEl thinner than I have been. Well last week my brother came into town from Puerto Rico where he lives with his wife Raquel and his Daughter Sophia. He brought the pictures from his wedding back in February and I was floored at how large I was!!! Then yesterday, I was getting ready to go to court on a dumb traffic ticket, I go and looked into the mirror and for the first time noticed how much smaller I looked from the February picture. So here are the before and the after of my hard work. I hope you can see what I see. A smaller me, not the smallest I can be but albet a smaller version!! I am so happy!!!

Before 02/13/2010

After 11/18/2010

This makes my hard work everyday worth every minute!!! Watching my calories, putting my food into the nutrition counter, going to Zumba 3x's a week and walk/jog 2x's a week!! I can now see that all this work is paying off! I am a happy girl!!!

Thanks for listening and THANK YOU for being there for my support!! Sparkpeople has been the rock I need to get me to where I am now. Thank you all!!

Better choices in the face of life's relentless changes pays off!

Friday, October 29, 2010

So today is my weigh in and to my amazement I have lost the 10 lbs I posted as my mini goal. I weighed in at 219.3 lbs!! When I started SP and I mean really started, not just made a page and then left it for over a year to sit and do nothing for me, but really started this journey to a healthier and wiser way of life which was May 2010, I have lost a total of 28 lbs!! That is the most weight I have ever lost naturally! I have lost weight in the past but it was not a healthy way and I eventually got terribly sick. My thyroid which was underactive spiralled out of control and became over active producing 3 times the amount of thyroid that your body normally needs to maintain a healthy life style. I had to have my thyroid gland killed with radio active iodine, which made my thyroid underactive again. Having an underactive thyroid meant weight gain, especially to someone who didn't have a clue how to maintain weight naturally. I love food, all food! So for the next 10 years and another child, which makes 3 kids, my body was lets say not in the best shape at all!!

But in May of 2010, I became inspired by my sister Cathy who was about 25 lbs heavier than I was. She was losing weight and I noticed it for the first time. She said I am just eating less around 1550 - 1750 calories a day and exercising 30-60 minutes a day. I told myself right then and there that I was going to do the same. I promised her I would join her cause I would be her weight loss buddy. Well we have now lost weight together and I am feeling wonderful and so is she. She was 260 lbs and has lost 30 lbs total and I was 247 and have lost 28 lbs!!

I believe in the begining she was the one who kept me going, but then I remembered that I had started a sparkpage and got back to it. Reading the daily blog of all of my fellow life style changers has been my biggest motivating factor. Knowing that I am not the only one that has bad days, feeling like I need a little boost or just reading that someone has reached thier goal got me through rough times.

On Oct 11th, my father in law was in a horrible car accident. He has been paralyzed from the waist down and its been a rough time for our family. At the same time, like murphy's law does sometimes, my car broke down. Well we didn't have the money in this economy to send my husband to Arizona where his dad lived and fix my broken car. So we made the decision that he would go be with his Dad and I would make due with no car for a time. Well instead of letting all of this get me down, I decided I would turn it into a positive. I walked more to where I needed to go or took the bus on long journey's somewhere. We have now gotten through the first few weeks and now I am happier for it. Making wise choices helped me keep my mini goal in mind!!! I am now 28 lbs lighter and feeling fabulous. The stress of lifes relentless changes is still there but if you can see your way through it and not let it get you down then you will be happier for it!! i know I am.

Thanks for listening. I read a blog today about making different choices in the face of lifes changes and coming out on top, which prompted me to write this blog.

Happy halloween all, and keep making good choices it pays off in the end.

Barb

I will be keeping your father-in-law in my thoughts!! (As well as your whole family) It says a lot that you were able to find a positive in everything though in the situation with your car... It's amazing how having a different perspective on things can help improve health, etc.

Congratulations on your progress though - you have really been doing a fabulous job! Keep on moving and keep on motivating :)

    Barb,
I will keep your father-in-law in my prayers. Today marks 22 years since the accident that left my boyfriend a paraplegic, so life will go on for your family, you'll reach a different "normal", and who knows, you may even find some positives come out of it. That has certainly been the case for my boyfriend.

Feeling great with the skin your in!!!

Wednesday, September 22, 2010

I have been heavy most of my life. My body type is athletic, but not with the sexy athletic legs but the heavy kind of POPEYE style type legs. I have struggled all my life with showing my legs in any way and to make matters worse, LOL, my rear is what I consider large as well so safe to say I have never thought of myself as a particularly sexy woman. But that is all changing and I have never felt so good about myself ever! My husband said to me the other day, "WOW babe, your legs look awesome, and you have a sexy backside!" I was floored because I never thought to hear a compliment like that about my most hated part of my body. I was beaming from ear to ear for a very long time thinking wow what a great way to feel.

Proof IS in the pudding and the scale acknowledged my hard work with success!!! Today I am happy to post I am down to 225 lbs, from 248 when I started and have almost obtained my goal to lose 10lbs in September!! I have only 5 more lbs to lose and I can check off another goal reached!! I am saying goodbye forever to 23lbs and I am determined never to see it return!!

I have really never felt so happy and so healthy in my life and I wanted to say thank you to all the support and good vibes I get from SPARKPEOPLE friends and staff. Thank you for being there for us when we have our good days and especially for those bad ones!!! Thank you for giving us the tools and the encouragement to make our goals a reality!! I have told just about everybody I've met that my life changing success is greatly in part of SPARKPEOPLE and the articles and equipment they give us!!

You know the hard work and the determination is all worth it when you see results!!! Thank you all for helping me to find my way to MY FOREVER healthy and happy change of life!!!

Your friend,
Barb

Surprises this morning!

Wednesday, August 25, 2010

Well safe to say that for the last few mornings I have been feeling a little sluggish and not up for my morning workouts. However, I have been pushing though them diligently and getting them done along with a night time swim when I get home from work. After the morning workouts, I make sure to have a protein packed breakfast and a Sobe Life water(love em their my favorite) to replenish what I lost. I have really been watching what I put into my mouth but think that sometimes I could eat wiser. DH is a good supporter, but can sabotage me with the foods he chooses to make for dinner. So this morning I again worked out with less determination but got through the routine, stretched and was off to work. When I got into work no one was in the office yet, so I went to the scale, disrobed lol and weight myself.... and to my complete SURPRISE I lost another 2 lbs this week!!!! I am almost at my 10 lb goal of 230. I started crying (in a happy way) and just delighted in my success and my determination to keep going even though I wasn't feeling like staying with the workouts. Then I logged into Sparkpeople to post my success and was rewarded (I believe) for my success with a 50 point bonus on the log in points!!! So I just wanted to let all of you out there who is or was feeling the way I did that hard work and determination does pay off!!! If I can do it anyone can too!!! Keep up the good work and we will all be successful in our new healthier life styles.

Congratulations! Great job pushing through and persevering! Sometimes I don't feel like working out when I first wake up, but if I can just get myself up and dressed, somehow I'm more "ready" to get it done and make it happen. I'm never disappointed that I DID workout, only when I make excuses for myself.

Awesome job! Keep it up. :)
