GOING PINK at the COMBINE DEMO DERBY!

Tuesday, August 05, 2008

The photo above was put together using the Picasa / Google program. I took the images at the Combine Demolition Derby on Sunday Night at the Fair.

I had to share with you photos from a remarkable young man who took an old International Combine off the farm and painted it PINK. A few years back his family went through a scare when his mom was diagnose with Breast Cancer. She is a SURVIVOR! This young man who I am blessed to know very well decided to make a difference at one of the biggest events at the County Fair. He started work on this older International getting it to run and then painting it PINK for the cause. This combine was sitting at our local Tractor Supply Store to get attention before the fair and people were able to donate money that all went to our local Breast Cancer Charity. T-shirts were made where anyone going to the event or just wanting to show their support for the combine were sold. We all wore the t-shirts up to the Combine Demolition Derby on Monday night. I came in the main gate to the event a little late so the stands were already packed. I am glad I did because I got to talk to greet my dear friend before he took the field. I waved and yelled ' GO PINK.... GOOD LUCK ANDY!" He always blushes when I talk to him - I think I embarrass him at times ( the whole mom thing) :-) As I walked below the stands to look up and see all those PINK shirts it really brought tears to my eyes. :-)

That Pink COMBINE held it's own. He sure did take a beating and messed up a few of those other combines. We weren't the first to go off the field. We didn't win the actually smash up derby but we did win! We brought awareness by painting the old Combine PINK - SURVIVOR and over $5,000 was raised. The money the boy earned for winning his single round all went to the cause. He didn't keep a penny!

THAT is making a difference!
GO PINK - and be sure to have your annual check ups!

Off to meet some goals for the day.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE PINK-- as a matter of fact, I am wearing pink pants-LOL!
Oh Bren-- this sounds like such a wonderful, fun event!
People can be very inventive when it comes to raising awareness. I absolutely love it.
Now, they just have to do it with other cancers!

    Bren, thanks for posting this.

I lost my mom 10years ago to breast cancer, and have been very active with the Komen org and other breast cancer walks.

Its great to see the awareness out there, because doing the simple act of going to see you doctor will save your life....

It would have saved my moms.....

Motivation to me is.....

Monday, August 04, 2008

The photo above was taken just a few minutes ago. I have been a BUSY BUSY BUSY Bee in my dried flower garden harvesting the pretty flowers to be hung and saved for a raining day. I wanted to share with you the beauty of the flowers and my dear little Betty Calico kitty who was my little helper today! :-)
*****************************
Today I got the email saying I was ELECTED as as MOTIVATOR on SPARKPEOPLE. THANK YOU....... It really means the world to me right now that you all would have PUSHED THAT button casting a vote for me! I LOVE YOU ALL.... really! I just got a vision of me standing in front of a microphone wearing a red Channel Design at the Grammys! LOL HOW FUN! THANK YOU FOR MOTIVATING ME.

Many things going through my head this weekend about what I can do to continue to stay on the right track to being healthy and fit. Feeling frustration and over whelmed because I had lost sight of what I was wanting to achieve. Today I spent time Meditating and doing some soul searching about what I am THANKFUL for. Thinking of all the wonderful comments my friends here at Sparks have shared with me during this time of NOT wanting to fall back into old habits.

My Motivation is the DESIRE to be HEALTHY and get FIT for the rest of my life.
What MOTIVATES ME - MY family and my love of LIFE.
WHY be MOTIVATED - to continue to challenge oneself and OTHERS. What fun is life if you don't have a challenge or desire something that is good for you?

5 THINGS NOT TO DO

Sunday, August 03, 2008

The photo above are two of my farm cats who are both rescue cats. The darker tiger was rescued as a kitten back in 2004 after his mom was killed. We took him in when he was only a week old. The gray tiger is Smokie who is from a mama rescue kitty. She died shortly after giving birth to Smokie. Isn't it great how they are helping one another out?! It is amazing to me that these cats who are from different liters are so loving to one another. HAD TO SHARE!

My BLOG Today is based on a wonderful comment of advice 3DOGCREW sent to me the other day when I was having a really bad day. This is some advice he gave me about what NOT TO DO! I love the kicking comment because I seriously had thoughts of throwing the scale out the window!

*******************

5. Go to the store and buy new battlers for your scale.
4. Try to skip a meal.
3. Stress out so hard you can't sleep at night.
2. Lock yourself in the house and go no where
1. Kick your scale so hard it puts a big hole in the wall.

These things don't work. I tried them all. These five mite work.

1. Drink only water for one day. Only drink when your thirsty.
2. Walk faster for a shorter time than normal, than slower for a longer.
3. Look at the foods you eat and ask why is my body wanting more food, I'm I not eating something it needs.
4. Some night when it nice. Set out side and just enjoy the night and the sounds.
5. Tell yourself this is just a small set back and start a new streak tomorrow.
***************************

Enjoy your day. Tonight is the last night of Fair. YAH... we can bring the animals that we showed home. I am soooo tired of smelling that GROSS fair food! OVER all I did really well at keeping away from the not so good food choices up at the Fair. Tonight a good friend of mine is putting a huge PINK combined in the Combine Demolishion Derby. This is in memory of his mom who recently discovered she had Breast Cancer. I will try and post photos tomorrow of the event.

love your blog... the things that work & don't work!

What did you have in the fair?? Our apple orchard always puts in apples (duh!) & we get numerous ribbons (it helps that we have some of the ONLY varieties in the competition!)

That fair food is all FRIED stuff or SUGAR ! But SO tempting...

Did Someone Read my MIND???

Saturday, August 02, 2008

So I have SPARKPEOPLE motivational quotes on my google desktop and on a few other networking programs I enjoy to use daily. Todays Quote was totally for ME! The flowers ... the thoughts .... I really needed that today. I decided to share it with you at the top of this blog.

RATHER THEN thinking about the negative and letting the BAD find its way back into my life I am moving on! There are so many things in my life to thankful for. I am sure you have many as well. Just to be able to GET UP in the morning and make choices on our own is a blessing. I guess my last blog goes to show that EVERYONE has bad days.... even little SPIT- FIRE garden gals like me!

I worked my BUTT off in the garden today. I can't begin to tell you how many loads of weeds I pulled out of the veggie patch. LOTS OF Work getting those little plants to grow.

Keeping on track with my good eating and starting to focus on a better workout with the machines I have here at home. I am hoping to get a good 'jog' in tonight down in the trails. WISH ME LUCK!

Happy WEEKEND FRIENDS

Stop the OLD HABITS from attacking!

Friday, August 01, 2008

I about cried when I went out to the garden bed tucked behind my house and found the HORRIBLE nasty Japanese Beetles had destroyed many of my Rose-a-Sharon Blooms and my Holly Hocks. As I frantically ran to the garden shed to get the SEVEN to NUKE-EM I couldn't help but think that the blooms aren't the only thing under attach this late summer. :-(

As I pumped up the duster shotting those little 'buggers' with the cemical that would kill them instantly I had images of the nasty little small helping of Wendys' Fries I ate at lunch today or the small scoop of ice cream I helped myself to earlier in the week. I was UNDER ATTACK as well... letting those nasty little EMPTY CALORIE Treats find there way back into my diet. HOW COULD I LET THIS HAPPEN? I was doing so well with substituting the bad calories with good CLEAN EATING food. Was it the busy schedule and the crazy life of being an active mom or was it just plain ol' LAZINESS?

After the last bloom was DUSTED this afternoon it was time to incorporate some new goals to get myself back on track to growing healthy. Just as the blooms may sprout new buds and look great after a few helpings of fertilizer so will I............

TO BE Continued!

Everyone has days where they slip up and eat something that isn't healthy or that we actually don't even want.
Always put it behind you and move on. If it helps, whenever I find myself indulging in too many sweets, I go one week without them. No chocolate, no candy, no ice cream...nothing. It usually gets rid of the cravings and makes me not want them.

What a beautiful picture (excepting the bugs!) and a pertinent message. We have to be ever-vigilant, don't we? I've had just a couple of days of "laxity" and am a bit panicked at letting the bugs in.

Thanks for this great blog.
