First thing...Way To Go!! You have taken the hardest step already (the first one) so the rest will follow.
The best advice I can give you is to start everyday like it's the only one. Taking things one day at a time is so much easier to handle than looking at the big picture(at least at first).
It takes 30-45 days of consistently doing something to make it a habit. So work at creating a streak of anything for 45 days. It can be such a simple thing like drinking your water or walking for 15 minutes. Every time you reach the end of those 45 days add a new thing to the streak. before long you will be drinking enough water and working out etch day and feeling better about yourself and your journey.
I know you can do this! I BELIEVE IN YOU!!!!!

Tracking the amount of food you eat was a huge step for me. The other thing that has really helped me is eating every 3 hrs. or close to it. I have breakfast within an hour of rising, then a snack (100 cal) 3 hrs later, then lunch 3 hrs later, then another snack (100 cal), 3 hrs later Dinner and then a 50 Cal treat oh and I keep all of my main meals at about 400 cal.

The best way to look at this is baby steps. Don't try to change everything at once you'll get overwhelmed and discouraged and give up. Focus on one thing at a time. I'd start with tracking food and really finding out what it is you're putting in your body. You'll be amazed at the weight that comes off when you start making sure you meet your calories on a regular basis. Once that is a little less overwhelming you can start kicking up the exercise.

Best of luck! We're all here to support you!

I know what you mean when you and your bf have a date in mind but no engagement yet. I'm in the same boat.

Welcome!! What a fantastic way to learn about you and your goals. Congratulations on your impending engagement and graduation! I am also planning on entering the health field and can completely identify with your thoughts on that.
So far, what has worked for me is being here! I am always here to track what I am eating and my daily activity. If I am having a rough day, I ask for help from others. Sometimes you just need that extra pick-me-up from someone else who understands.
I also plan. I rarely splurge, but I am also realistic that some days (like birthdays) I am going to have something that is not on my nutrition plan. Since I know these days are coming, I will be very careful the rest of the week so I can have a slice of cake.
The most important thing is to not beat yourself up if you make a mistake. Weight loss is not an all-or-nothing proposition. If you eat a donut, don't go and scrap your whole day (or week). It isn't the end of the world. Forgive yourself and start again.
If you ever need a little nudge--feel free to send me a message.

GOOD JOB FOR YOUR FIRST VBLOG. DO ONE AT LEAST EVERY OTHER DAY IT WILL HELP KEEP YOU ACCOUNTABLE. IT HELPED ME FOR THE FIRST MONTH. ALSO KEEP TRACK OF WHAT YOU EAT. KEEP UNDER YOUR REQUIRED CALS IF YOU CAN. I HAVE AND LOST 18 LBS IN TWO MONTHS SO I'M HAPPY WITH THE RESULTS SO FAR. IT WILL BE SLOW BUT THAT'S OK. AS LONG AS YOU LOSE. WALK TOGETHER AS MUCH AS YOU CAN. ITS GREAT WHEN MY GIRLFRIEND WALKS WITH ME AND WE TALK ABOUT EVERYTHING THAT POPS UP. AND YOU FORGET YOUR EXERCISING. DRINK ALL THE WATER WHICH WAS THE HARDEST FOR ME BUT NOW NOTHING ANY MORE. AND DON'T FORGET TO EAT ALL YOUR MEALS. I WAS SURPRISED HOW MUCH MORE I EAT AND I'M LOSING WEIGHT.

KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK YOU TWO CAN DO IT.

Hey Becka, Welcome to Spark People! That was a really cool video blog (never seen that on SP before lol). Well congratulations on taking that first step. I don't really have any advice, but hopefully this welcome is somewhat supportive :)

I've been around on and more often off and am hoping to really take the bull by the horns in the next couple of weeks (saying a silent prayer on that lol).

I went from being very positive and very active person to being a sedentary pessimist. I'm working now to attain some sort of balance between the two. I've basically been taking baby steps and increasing the amount of exercise I get in during a day/week/month without really trying TOO hard. I've also been slowly but quite steadily improving my baseline diet to include more fiber and whole foods and generally healthy vittles :) I've stopped buying table salt all together and from slowly weaning myself off of it actually find that most foods prepared by others or at restaurants now taste like they're absolutely loaded with salt which usually helps with overeating when out (though some things family members create are still a problem).

Anyway, as a place to start that might be worth looking into. Also I'm trying to make it so that it's easier to be healthy than otherwise. More workout clothes than jeans so since I'm dressed for it I may as well take an impromptu walk or do a spontaneous dance session or something.

Like I said these have all be minor and long drawn out tweaks and changes to the way I'm sort of "set up" at home, but hopefully I'll get that extra spark of motivation to start the hard part (lol the sweating and struggling and soreness, etc) as I enter a phase two of sorts.

I don't have it all together, or a concrete plan, but I still hope to get there. If you come up with something that works for you, let me know. I too am all ears for what other folks are doing. : ) emoticon

In a word? Consistency. I keep my schedule the same from day to day, wake at the same time, eat at the same time, workout at the same time and sleep at the same time. If I'm going to "treat" myself one day, I make myself accountable for it that day- either extra exercise or really watch what I eat the rest of that day. No surprises, no days off, and no working hard to get back what I've lost or recover.
