Remember the Reason for the Season!

Saturday, December 22, 2012

So much to do and so little time to do it! Well, Christmas Day will come whether I am ready or not. So today I will do the best I can, finishing shopping, wrapping, food preparation and also the other chores that still need doing, cleaning, laundry, bill paying, etc. But what I must remember is that getting the 'perfect gift' for someone is not as important as sharing a hug with them on Christmas. Making the perfect dessert is far less important than just sitting and enjoying any dessert together. Making the house spotless is not as important as filling it with lots of family on Christmas Day. I vow to remember the reason for the season and fill my day with joy, peace and gratitude and reflecting on all the wonderful blessings in my life!

Wishing all a joyous holiday season!

Trip to DC

Friday, November 02, 2012

My husband and I are flying to DC in the morning to visit my son and his fiancÚ. I am really looking forward to it. But right now I need to pack and am avoiding the task;why is that?
We will only be there until Monday morning. Early flight back. Have a conference to go to all day. So, do not need much but I guess I get hung up on weather and making sure I have everything I need. Just got to do it, get to bed and be up very early to make our flight.
Will take my iPad and hope to log on and stay connected to SP! Haven't missed a day yet!

To all, hope you have a great weekend!

Glad you had a nice trip Claire. That is one place I have never been to. Maybe one day!
Keep sparking! Good for you that you haven't missed a day. I have over a 2 year perfect attendance streak of logging in and spinning the wheel! I have tracked my food and exercise everyday too! The key is perseverence-one day at time! emoticon emoticon emoticon

We had a terrific time in DC! The weather was perfect. Saw the play ' War Horse' at the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts on Sat. night. Sunday did some sightseeing: Lincoln's Cottage, Catholic Basilica and a couple of other points of interest. Wrapped up with a delicious dinner at Filomena's restaurant at night.
Then back to reality....oh well! Life can't be all fun! The work balances it out I guess! emoticon

Claire, it has been two weeks since you travelled to Washington, DC. We hope it went well and the weather cooperated to make it even more special. Congratulations on your consistency with SparkPeople and hope the rewards are in keeping with a more healthy lifestyle. Thank you for thinking of me and good healthy wishes to you at this Thanksgiving time of year!

emoticon Claire, I hope you have a wonderful weekend in DC. I guess things there are pretty much back to normal? One of our friends that lives there had water in her house. I hope all was well with your son! I would say enjoy the conference...sometimes that's possible, right?

What Constitutes a Wonderful Day?

Sunday, October 14, 2012

First off I woke up to kisses from my two grandchildren. (They are with us every other weekend). Then my husband and I drove to downtown Boston to see The Dalai Lama at the Copley Marriott. (He had purchased the tickets for my birthday). First we were treated to about a half hour of songs from James Taylor. "You Can Close Your Eyes" and "You've Got a Friend " were two of the ones he sang.

"Hey ain't it good to know that you've got a friend?
People can be so cold. They'll hurt you and desert you.
Well, they'll take your soul if you let them, oh yeah, but don't you let them."
(Great little mantra for SP I was thinking!)
Then the Dalai Lama came on stage with a standing ovation!
Topic of the day: "Beyond Religion, Ethics, Values and Well Being."
Very dynamic speaker. Emphasizes compassion, holistic thinking, embodying the mind and the heart. How we are all connected. With more compassion, there would be less world turmoil. This is the second time I have heard him speak and first for my husband. We were certainly awed by his presence and truly inspired by his words.

Then off to an art store so I could buy some supplies.
Lastly, dinner at a favorite restaurant. Now home to enjoy the rest of the evening.
That is what constitutes a wonderful day!
To all, hope your day was wonderful too!

I've seen James Taylor in concert, but never seen the Dalai Lama in person. Good for you. Glad you had such a wonderful experience. Probably a lot more memorable than meeting "Thomas the Train" and "Sir Topam Hatt" which is what I was up to. :-)

What a great event you went to and you got to see James Taylor, you lucky dog! I would definitely have walked away with upbeat, positive feelings from an event like that.

Learn to labor and to wait!

Saturday, September 15, 2012

Let us, then, be up and doing
With a heart for any fate;
Still achieving, still pursuing,
Learn to labor and to wait.
~ Henry Wardsworth Longfellow

Disappointed that the scale did not show a weight loss today but must be patient. My food choices have been relatively good! Interesting though, I am not getting in my 8 glasses of water a day and my exercising has been lacking. At work there is a water cooler just steps from my office so there are no excuses there. Just get too busy and time gets away. I will commit to a streak of days getting in the water I need. When I had the time off this summer I was in a great routine of walking, some weights and some resistance bands but back in the full time schedule has hindered my progress. Need to make it a priority. With these two commitments I am certain I will see some progress on tha scale come 10/1/12!

Thanks to all for your motivation, humor, honesty and inspiration on SP pages!

Thanks for the Spark Goodie! I struggle with getting enough water as well. I know how hard it is to remember to drink it when you are so busy during work hours! The easiest for me is to keep a water bottle handy - but even so sometimes I don't remember. But we can keep working toward it, right? Have a great Sunday!

Dear Claire, First let me say Welcome to SP. Sorry I missed welcoming you back when you first came in.

Working 40 hours a week will put a damper on your health routine. By the time you get home, I bet you are so tired that exercise is difficult. I know...been there.

Love, love, love the Longfellow quote!! I may have to add it to my page just to keep it in mind. Thank you for sharing that!

As for the water, how about tea? I was never a tea drinker, and then I discovered the correct way to prepare green tea and realized there's so many different kinds out there. I never though I'd like something like hibiscus tea until I actually tried it. So tasty and, at least from what I've hear, good for you, too.

If you're looking at plain water, buy yourself a cute water bottle or cup, something that just looking at it make you smile. That way you'll notice it more and, hopefully, drink a little more. Seriously, it sounds superficial, but sometimes I'll buy Eternal water from Whole Foods, just because I love the bottle. Then you can refill that bottle, too. Whatever works, right?

Have a great weekend!!
