Two trees

Friday, May 07, 2010

The tree people came this morning and removed our poor tree the lightening got, and one that was just dying. Took most of the morning to get the trees down, limbed, and trunks loaded. We opted to clean up the limbs and debris ourselves. We are still trying to burn up the stump of the tree the wind blew down last year.

I don't do heights well, this scared the beegeebers out of me.

This is what we had left to clean up.

And this is what it looks like now.

Of course, with such a nice fire we had to toast mallows.

And to top it off, our oldest grand caught a nice bass. She has been cleaned and will be eaten for lunch tomorrow.

It was another nice day.

Must be a good feeling to have that tree down before it fell down. Now you can breath a sigh of relief. Such a beautiful site to have a "bonfire". What fun after a hard day of clean up!

What a beautiful spot..and with fish on top of it!! Enjoy that bass. It has been a long time since I have been fishing and eaten a bass. My uncle used to take us to a tiny lake outside of San Antonio where we caught perch and the smallest catfish I ever saw. Ugh! Then he skinned the catfish and cooked it until it looked like piece of charcoal. Very funny in retrospect. Other times we would fish in south Texas and get good size bass and then cook over an open fire. Yum that was good.

Looks like the vision of your place has brought back some memories for me. Enjoy that fish!!

How could you tell the bass was a 'she'? Lol.

That was some tall tree you took down. Great opportunity for a bonfire.

25 miles, 12 tons, and finished fence

Thursday, May 06, 2010

This morning was such a beautiful one. Nice and cool, crystal blue sky, nice breeze. We decided to get a bike ride in early and had a fabulous easy 25 miles. By the time we got back (1 hr and 45 minutes later) it was 87. Ok , that wasn't bad, it was still early and we had finished our ride for the day.

Then the man called, he has our topsoil ready for delivery. So right after lunch we got 12 tons of topsoil. What else do you do but call the grands to help spread it.

DH also finished the rail fence. It is purely decorative and had to be "adjusted" to go around a tree that was so rude as to be growing on the property line.

I even finished quilting a small comfort quilt after dinner. What a good day.

The train

Saturday, May 01, 2010

The grands spent the night again last night. Today was Kids Workshop at Home Depot, so we did that first. Today was plant stands for Mother's Day.

Then we went home and got some bike rides in. The oldest has finally gotten tall enough to ride the back of the tandem.

Although he does like riding in the trailer, the youngest loves his scooter, too.

We also got a couple of more sections of the fence put up. The big pile on the right is all the weeds waiting to be burned.

DH had to go to work at 2, and the boys were tired, so we called it a day after lunch and I took them home. I finished up a rag quilt and got another top pressed and ready to put in the frame tomorrow. It was a good day.

Wonderful yard and view! Great to get the grandkids out exercising and burning off some of that energy.

I love the pics especially the tag-along with the trailer on it too. Reminded me that yesterday I saw a man on the trail with the covered trailer behind him and....drum roll.....a DOG in it. It was the funniest thing I ever saw. Dog was sitting up just enjoying the ride.

End of another month

Saturday, May 01, 2010

April is gone, 1/3 of 2010 is gone. Time certainly is flying by. We did manage to get some things done in the yard today. The split rail fencing came in and DH got 2 sections put up, I got some weeding done, limbs picked up (our trees should be limbless by now), new plants watered, walked about 1 mile, got some more organizing done in the sewing room, and enjoyed the sunshine. It was a good day.

Just some updates

Wednesday, April 28, 2010

Went to the orthodontist yesterday. Got new stiffer wire, 3 steel ties, upper chain (6-6), and rubber bands again. Haven't been able to eat a lot today, that may be good. But then my entire head has hurt all day, too.

We loaded up the newly repaired mountain tandem and went back to the area of the Portage experience. Had a flat within a mile of leaving the truck. I think we need to leave Pine Cone Trail alone and find somewhere else to ride. But it was nice to be outside anyway.

Flats are not fun, but at least you were outside so while changing the flat you are seeing nature and sucking up good air! emoticon

It does feel good to be out on the bike doesn't it? Flats are all part of the experience unfortunately. At least you had someone else with you. I usually ride alone and the other day I heard a pop fizz sound. Yikes! But I couldn't feel that the tire lost any air so kept riding all the way home. 2 days later, it was flat as a pancake! A little tiny hole that just kept leaking out air. So I got to fix my first flat in the comfort of my own home.

Happy trails!
