Cowboy Boots (one more from my dad)

Tuesday, February 16, 2010

The Cowboy Boots (Anyone who has ever dressed a child will love this one!)

Did you hear about the Texas teacher who was helping one of her kindergarten students put on his cowboy boots?

He asked for help and she could see why..

Even with her pulling and him pushing, the little boots still didn't want to go on. By the time they got the second boot on, she had worked up a sweat.

She almost cried when the little boy said, 'Teacher, they're on the wrong feet.' She looked, and sure enough, they were. It wasn't any easier pulling the boots off than it was putting them on. She managed to keep her cool as together they worked to get the boots back on, this time on the right feet...

He then announced, 'These aren't my boots.'

She bit her tongue rather than get right in his face and scream, 'Why didn't you say so?' like she wanted to. Once again, she struggled to help him pull the ill-fitting boots off his little feet. No sooner had they gotten the boots off when he said, 'They're my brother's boots. My mom made me wear 'em.'

Now she didn't know if she should laugh or cry. But, she mustered up what grace and courage she had left to wrestle the boots on his feet again.

Helping him into his coat, she asked, 'Now, where are your mittens?'

He said, 'I stuffed 'em in the toes of my boots.'

Snow in Alabama!

Friday, February 12, 2010

I got up and put the roast in the slow cooker so I could play with the grands this afternoon instead of cooking. About 9:30 the snow started and by noon we had a inch. DH got off work about 1 and picked up the boys to spend the night. It was a wonderful snow, perfect for making snowmen. So we played outside, came in for snack and to dry off, then back out for more fun.

We made snowmen big

and small

Then we made a snow fort

The snow is already melting, but it certainly was fun. We just don't get much around here. This is the most we have had in over 5 years.

Everyone is very tired, the boys will go to bed early since they didn't get a nap this afternoon. I'm planning on watching the Olympics, but we shall see if they let me.

I did get a bit of quilting done this morning.

Have a great day.

Great pictures! I'm sure the kids thought playing in the snow was quite a treat. I wouldn't mind playing in the snow if it only came once in a while and melted in the same day.

Oh how cute. Isn't snow fun when you know it won't last very long? It is pouring here. I am planning a hike tomorrow unless it is so rainy that the creek rises (just a saying, there is no creek). Sounds like you made the most of the day.

Just another one of those days

Tuesday, February 09, 2010

Today was another gray, rainy, cold, icky day. Went to the dentist and had my teeth cleaned this morning, DH got his braces off (sigh, I have another year). Came home and ate my low residue, bland, little lunch. Decided to load the twin quilt on the frame and get started. So I did. Changed the thread, sewed a sample, it looked good, so I got started quilting. Nice big loopy curves and curly ques. Power went off, on, off, on, off, and on again. Finished the first pass (about 1/6 of the quilt), advanced the quilt in the frame, and there it was. A nice tight bobbin thread and loopy top thread on the back. Well, poop. OK, big sigh, take a break, fix dinner, clean up. Start frog stitching. I got about half of it out when Biggest Loser came on, so stopped for the evening. Gotta work tomorrow, so won't have any time to work on it. Thursday I'll finish the frog stitching, work on the tension, and start over.

On a happier note, the diverticulitis is much better!

Sorry to hear about the stitching mishap. Your decision to step away was a good one. I've had to do that many times and it sure helps the frustration level.

We all have those "blah, gray days", and sometimes they don't end well. I'm glad to see yours got better. Those beautiful sunny days are coming soon (even if the groundhog says different). Personally, I can't wait for Spring! Enough of the cold weather. Now, put a smile on that beautiful face of yours because today is going to be a better day.

Hang in there kiddo!

Ugh! You got a bird's nest on the back of your quilt! Sorry to hear that. Hopefully it'll go better on Thursday. Sometimes a break from it is a good thing. Hope you intestines are feeling better today too. Whoa, wait a minute did you say that your DH got his braces off today? and you need yours for another year? Congrats to him! And here I thought only teens got braces...where have I been, LOL

I'm glad you ended with a happy note. Sometimes it just piles on, doesn't it? I hope to go biking tomorrow. Last day before the rain hits again. Rats!

I feel for you with the diverticulitis. I hate something that I had a hard time digesting yesterday and was up all night with shooting pains in my stomach and intestines. Finally everything calmed down and today I am just fine. Lesson learned: corn chips make me sick!!!!! Sigh.

Have a good evening.

Here we go again ...

Monday, February 08, 2010

Last night I got my strength training in, back still tender, but got it in. Sat on the couch waiting for DH to get home from work when it hit. My diverticulitis is flared up again. So now it is back on antibiotics and the low residue diet, which is not good for weight loss. No whole grain, no fiber. I'll be hungry for a while now. Also, no core work for a week or so. Sigh. Oh how I hate Flagyl!

Sorry you're having problems. Seems everytime we think we're all set something pops up to discourage us. Just take it a day at a time and do what is comfortable for you.

One down, 2 to go.

Saturday, February 06, 2010

Finished the baby quilt for DHs coworker last night. Actually it is a bit big for a baby quilt, guess I should call it a youth quilt. One down.

The top for DGSs twin quilt is ready for it's borders, which are half done. Not much extra fabric so have to measure 3 times and cut once. The denim rag I-spy is still waiting to be snipped as the rag scissors continue to hide.

We took the boys to Home Depot this morning for Kids Workshop. They really do look forward to going.

Even though it was another cold, gray, dreary day, I got a lot done. Now time for my exercises and I am through for the day.
