Ok, so I should have skipped the crunches...

Tuesday, February 02, 2010

because my back has flared up again. I work tomorrow, so it will get a rest. I did get another walk in today, sure felt good to be outside again (even if it was cloudy and cool). Also made some progress on DGSs quilt for his new bed, I should be able to get it finished this week.

Also, thought I would post another cute email from my dad:

This has got to be one of the cleverest
E-mails I've received in awhile.

I have seen this before, but not for a long time. It is always refreshing to read it, and brings smiles to my face. That is always a good thing!

Good luck with your back healing!! Take it easy and rest it. A good book, warm bed, closed blinds........all good for a sore back. emoticon

Just to brighten your day.

Monday, February 01, 2010

Today has been a typical Monday. Family lunch, grocery shopping, laze around the house and rest. I decided to check my e-mail and a friend had sent this link to me. This is sure to brighten your day a bit. Kids are just so great.

So cute. Thanks for that. Reminds me of my grandson except that he is into ACDC. Although he does have a couple of CW tunes he likes too. He is 4. Aren't they great?

Quilts for Ginny

Thursday, January 28, 2010

Here are some pictures I have gathered from the internet. The patterns should be easy to figure out.

Black/white 9 patch with bricks

Rainbow snowball

Depression block from Quilter's Cache

These are easy to do, colorful, and should make great charity quilts.

My back is much better. I was taking Aleve and apparently it upset my stomach, a lot. So I won't be doing that again. But by tomorrow I will be able to get back into come core exercises. If it warms up next week I'll be back on the bike. Since we are expecting an ice storm tomorrow, I don't think I'll be riding this weekend.

Great quilt pics! Love the black/white one with the bricks. I'll have to put that one on my ever growing 'to do' list! emoticonfor sharing them.
Hope your back gets better and better every day, it's no fun that's for sure!

I love these quilts. The Depression block is really very cool, and I like the four patch with the bricks - great way to use up some scraps. Thanks for sharing.

Qiults are beautiful. Using four patch and bricks appeals to me for using up odds and ends.

NICE QUILTS !!! I ESPECIALLY LIKED THE DEPRESSION ONE. HOPE THINGS ARE GOING BETTER FOR YOU. I ORDERED THE YELLOWBRICK ROAD BY ATKINSON AND I'M ANXIOUS FOR IT TO COME AND DECIDE ON MY COLORS...THAT'S THE HARDEST PART FOR ME.

Thanks Bev - I just converted the brick one to EQ - I'm much happier with this design then the simple 5 block charm. Although I still may use that for the backing - then it will be a double sided quilt. Will have to decide based on how much time I have to do. I think I'll start this weekend on the brick portion - cutting blocks. I'm making the 4 patch 5" square followed by 10" brick. How big will determine fabric and time.

The only one I have actually made is the Depression block (that one isn't mine, but the picture I found for inspiration). I loved it, and have made 2 so far. The 4patch and brick will be my next one. I have lots of black and white strips left from DDs log cabin quilt and want to use them up. If I have many pieces left I will do the snowball next. So many scraps, so many scraps.

Last year I did a snowball one with lighthouses. The year before I did a Storm at Sea pattern (blue and white). I like the brick pattern above. That's a great idea. I like that better then the simple 5" charm.

What? No ice skates for your bike? Bummer. Hopefully your weather will be better next week and you can get out. I now have 75 miles this year. Finally got out with some friends today and it was a lot of fun. Wish you could have joined us.:)

Drinking from my saucer

Sunday, January 24, 2010

Spent another day taking Aleve and applying heat to my back. Skipped Boot Camp again. Sort of feeling sorry for myself so I looked through my old e-mails. I found this one my dear Dad sent a while back. I have no idea where it originated, but it cheered me up.

Drinking From My Saucer

I've never made a fortune, and it's probably too late now.
But I don't worry about that much, I'm happy anyhow
And as I go along life's way,
I'm reaping better than I sowed.
I'm drinking from my saucer,
'Cause my cup has overflowed.

Haven't got a lot of riches,
and sometimes the going's tough
But I've got loving ones all around me,
and that makes me rich enough.
I thank GOD for his Blessings,
and the Mercies HE's bestowed.
I'm drinking from my saucer,
'Cause my cup has overflowed.

I remember times when things went wrong,
My faith wore somewhat thin.
But all at once the dark clouds broke,
and the sun peeped through again.
So LORD, help me not to gripe,
about the tough rows I have hoed.
I'm drinking from my saucer,
'Cause my cup has overflowed.

If GOD gives me strength and courage,
When the way grows steep and rough.
I'll not ask for other blessings,
I'm already Blessed enough...
And may I never be too busy,
to help others bear their loads..
Then I'll keep drinking from my saucer,
'Cause my cup has overflowed.

When I think of how many people in this world have so little, I realize just how BLESSED we really are.

Oh, I loved that image of the overflowing cup! Especially because just this morning I was thinking of inventing coffee mugs with built in saucers, 'cause I'm always sloshing mine on the carpet!

What a wonderful thought to begin my week. Especially as I am feeling the same way as you as I start the week. I too am drinking from my saucer and didn't really appreciate it. So my thought for the day is "drinking from that saucer of plenty". Thanks.

Taking an easy day.

Saturday, January 23, 2010

We had the grands spend the night and they keep you hopping. Don't know if it was building the Thomas track, sitting in the floor playing games, or chasing little boys around, but I seem to have pulled something in my lower back. It has been twitchy all day. So I put ice on it earlier, and now I have a heating pad. Skipped Boot Camp for the day, hope to be able to do it tomorrow.
