Sister Network, Inc Baton Rouge, LA

Sunday, April 10, 2011

Yesterday I completed a 5k walk/run in Houston, Texas. The walk was sponsored by the Sisters Network, Inc.--A National African American Breast Cancer Survivorship Organization. There were approximately 5,000 participants and the weather could not have been any better. Thirty-eight cancer survivors and their friends left Baton Rouge, Louisiana at 2:00 a.m. Saturday morning to participate in the walk/run. We had a wonderful time, and I look forward to many more 5k walks.

On Tuesday, I had an appointment out of town. I left early and did not eat breakfast and the appointment was scheduled during my normal lunch time. Because I was very hungry after the appointment, I stopped off at Popeye's for a two piece combo. Later in the evening when I begin to track my food intake for the day, I realized that the combo meal was over 900 calories. I was very disappointed that I had eaten all of those calories in one meal. I won't be doing that again! emoticon

Just a suggestion, if you peel the skin off that chicken, you probably cut the calories in half. It sort of takes the fun out of Popeye's chicken, but it works.

For any spark people up north who read this, just be happy that Popeye's fried chicken is not one of your temptations.

Don't beat yourself up over this one time event. We often learn the best lesson of life from our mistakes.

I completely sympathize with that. I split a white chocolate cheesecake from Olive Garden with my dad once and found out that one piece has over 900 calories.

Well atleast you learned something that will benefit you everytime you step out to eat. When I first started tracking almost everything I was eating was sooooo many calories and I didn't realize it. No wonder I reached 280lbs, I use to eat fast food all the time and thought oh it's just a meal. Yeah right it was equal to 3 meals a day sometimes. But luckily now we have the tools to help us pick and choose. I wish you the best on the rest of your journey and keep on sparking!!!

Making Friends

Tuesday, July 28, 2009

Today I talked to a lady that I often see on my morning walks. She stated that she was envious of me because I was a regular walker--rain or shine. That made me feel wonderful that someone had noticed me on my walks. As I continued to walk, I got honks and waves from drivers. I thought about it for a few minutes and realized that I had become a fixture on the little country road. I have made new friends! emoticon

Isn't it amazing how wonderful a honk or wave can make you feel? It always brings a smile to my face when I'm walking.

Chemical Peel

Thursday, July 16, 2009

As one ages, it seems that cosmetic procedures are sometimes necessary. Yesterday I start my second round of chemical peels. It is amazing how the dark areas on my face are disappearing. But as you know, "A girl has to do what a girl has to do!!" emoticon

Class Reunion 5K

Friday, May 29, 2009

I sponsored a 5K on the morning of my 40th year high school class reunion banquet. Ten of my classmates showed up to participate. We dined on orange juice, mimosas, muffins, croissants, orange slices, coffee, and water.
