June: I blew it (but I'm halfway to my goal!!!)

Wednesday, June 27, 2012

I did so good last month! But this month is another story: I moved, went on vacation, passed out (twice) on the flight back and fell and hurt a few toes (they jammed under the lavatory door) - so that's prevented me from being able put my workout shoes on, and helping my parents move this week and weekend. I really miss my routine. I'm the kind of person that needs that. But, in spite of not having been to the gym AT ALL this month, I haven't gained any weight. I've even managed to lose a couple more lbs. Which means I'm halfway to my goal!!!! I never thought I'd make it. 36 lbs gone forever! My boyfriend's sister-in-law noticed when I was in Louisiana this past week. It's such a nice feeling when people notice. It makes me feel like my hard work is paying off. If I can just get through the next week, I think things will be back to normal. *Deep breath*

Not a breeze, but you certainly haven't blown anything!

Yipes, that's less blowing it than getting blown about by a freak June storm of obstacles. Congrats on managing to keep your eating in line and still lose a couple pounds in spite of that!

You didn't blow it! You had some circumstances out of your control change your plans for the month, but you're no worse for the wear, and you've even managed to lose a few pounds. That's pretty incredible to me! emoticon

HUGE congrats on your accomplishments so far! Congrats on gettingthe recognition you deserve from your BF's family-- that is great! It really makes this whole process worth it, don't ya think?=) Some days it's really hard to remind myself where I have come from and not get discouraged that I still have such a long way to go, but hearing other people acknowledge our hard work really helps. Keep at it girl!

Eep! What a month you've had. Maintaining your weight (and sanity) is a big accomplishment considering all you've faced. Hang in there!!

Changing my focus after almost 2 years on SP

Friday, May 18, 2012

It seems as if the battle to lose weight is never ending. I lost a few lbs, then gained one back, just from two days of not-so-great food (could have been worse). I'm one of those people that has to weigh myself almost every day. It helps keep me motivated. But when I saw the scale go up this week, I decided I need to change my focus. I'm going to not weigh myself for the rest of this month, and instead focusing on increasing my workouts. Right now I do 50-70 mins five days a week. I work a desk job, so that makes it a challenge to be more active throughout the day. I do little things like take the long way to check the mail (it's about a half block away), jog in place a few times for a minute or two throughout the day, stretch frequently, etc. There are 14 days left in this month. I'm challenging myself to get another 825 fitness minutes in this month, and this will put me at 1,500 for the month! I've never reached more than 1,000. We'll see if it works! I'll weigh myself on June 1st and hopefully see that number go down just a little.

1500 minutes is a great goal and definitely doable if you keep it in mind!

Sounds like a good plan. Good luck on not looking at the scale. I think that's awesome if you can do it AND stay focused. You're SURE to show a loss. Just STAY FOCUSED. emoticon

Monday blues

Monday, April 23, 2012

Not feeling so great today, between allergies and mother nature. This is one of those days it would be so easy to skip my workout. But I already made up my mind I won't. I brought all my workout stuff with me, and the bag is sitting in my office where I can see it. I will not talk myself out of it. If I want to reach by goal of 215 by June 20th, I really need to keep my workouts consistent.

I hope that you feel better soon. I know the Monday Blues can really throw you for a loop. Listen to your body though, if you start to feel woozy or off. Then perhaps some gentle exercise would be the way to go.

Even if you have to adjust what you do, being there and doing is the important part.

I hear ya, Monday's stink and allergies certainly don't help! It's awesome that you're still going to hit the gym even when you could easily skip, I have a hard time doing that myself!

If you are feeling unwell, then don't beat yourself up with it. Maybe try some gentle exercises like walking?

BodyMedia Fit Armband

Thursday, April 12, 2012

I received my armband yesterday. I think it's just the kick in the butt I need. I think that the machines at the gym are way overestimating the amount of calories I'm burning, and therefore, I'm not burning enough. Something I can't figure out though - you are supposed to wear it at night and it will analyze your sleep. I went to bed at 10, and got up about 6:45. Yet it says I only slept three and a half hours. It also says I walked about 500 steps before I even got up. Yes I woke up a few times to use the restroom (took a water pill last night), but I can't see how this is accurate. The only thing I can think of is that I did a lot of tossing and turning last night. Has anyone used it and gotten the same kind of results?

Update 5/11: I officially LOVE this thing! I've been using it for a month now. It has definitely gotten me to be more active throughout the day (I work a desk job, so this is a challenge). I've discovered that even on off-days, or days I don't have time to get to the gym, I can burn enough just by taking a walk around my neighborhood. If you can afford it, I strongly suggest you get one.

I have a BodyMedia Fit and have been using it successfully for the last month. It's pretty accurate as far as I've been able to tell. Have you been having any better luck lately? Maybe you didn't have a good contact point between your skin and your monitor? I have run into the same problem with the gym machines overestimating my caloric burn - this morning the machine told me I burned an even 600 and in reality I was just short of 500. That's a big difference!

I've been thinking about getting one too and researching the different brands. I'd be interested to see how you like it after a few weeks! Thanks for sharing!

I've actually been pondering one of those gadgets to track sleep and was curious what it is based on. I wonder if some of that time variance is because of the waking up for the restroom and the time it took to fully get back to sleep after.

I just got mine, but haven't used it yet. I think the 500 steps may be accurate, but the sleep thing is interesting. I'll let you know as soon as I get mine in service.
