the week end is here

Saturday, October 01, 2011

Its Saturday, why would a retired guy like me care? I don't go to swim today. Too many kids. But today I'll try to get more active than usual. I'll try to do at least one of the chores I really need to do round the house. Some time this week-end I'll head off to some place where there are people. Do some walking and some people watching, One trip will be to a farmers market to pick up some fruit and veggies. Nothing quite like the local stuff. Looking like rain will mean my doing indoor stuff. I have lots of stuff that needs doing inside. I started reading "the spark" but I cannot figure out how to track it yet. I guess that I need to try again. I hope you have a great weekend, you deserve it. emoticon

There are great tutorial videos here on spark that are extremely helpful in teaching how to use the tools (like tracking) on the site. Use those little folder tabs up there and click:

Ready? Set? GO!

I think chores are the best fitness activity. I find I get 2 rewards. 1. The fitness aspect. 2. something needed to get done, get's done.

So dig into the chores!!

Life is good

Wednesday, September 28, 2011

Progress is being made. It's good to see a new job and a new place to walk were found this week. As for myself I lost a pound this week, not as much as I wanted but at least the numbers went the right directions. The mail brought "The Spark" today
along with two other books on health. I want read them all first. But that cannot be done.
I read the forward on all three and have settle on doing "The Spark" first. I must remember not to try to read too much and let things sink in. Also I need prepare stories for Halloween telling. Life is good. Went to the gym for a lower body workout and swim. I'll swim again tomorrow and do an upper body workout.

I am enjoying sparkpeople and believe I, no we can do this

I wish I had a swimming pool near me that I could use. Swimming is a great workout, you don't sweat, no impact forces on the joints, and you can feel graceful in the water to a good degree.

At my weight, the uneven parallel bars were not much of an option, but swimming, when available is my favorite.

1 Lb is a start. This Spark thing needs to be a lifestyle, not a "Diet", so if you stick to it, the trend will always be lower weight. You may have days that don't look like that, but over time, the trend will remain down.

It won't be as long as you think before you say "Wow, I really am losing some weight".

I hope you have a really big problem soon......"My pant's are way too loose"...LOL

It's a great problem...

It wonders me

Sunday, September 25, 2011

Now, I'll admit I have not been the the food tracker. However of late I've notice each time I do I end eating less than what the spark diet allows. Sometimes well below, And yet my weight loss is always slow even when I exercise a lot. I really do fell this is true even on the4 days I do not track. So I've made a plan to try to eat more and stay within the boundries as spark allows, Is it possible I could lose weight faster by eating more? I does not seem like a bad idea to try. Well maybe it does. but my way does not seem to work. What do you think?

Yes, it actually can be true - because if you're eating "too few" calories, your body screams FAMINE and starts storing every last bit of blood sugar as fat that it can get away with.

(Of course, there's extremes in every which direction - it's finding that balance of the right amount to eat and the right amount to exercise together that leads to the healthiest and most effective weight loss.)

Yes. It is possible that you're eating too little and have slipped into starvation mode.

It takes time and help

Saturday, September 17, 2011

There are mant reasons I should hurry up and lose this weight. But I know it will take time. For me a long time, but I'm not afraid of the long haul. Not when I friends to join me on my way. Please let's walk our way to good health together.
I have decided my health needs improvement many ways. If I look at all together it is simply overwelming. By dividing it up in smaller pieces it can be done. I would appreciate it if you remind of that from time to time.

A time to begin

Saturday, September 03, 2011

It's been a long time since I was in school. and yet the school year still seems to matter, It might be the change in season. But now is the time for me to change the things I can. Food and exercise are important part of this change, But there are other things, Developing more and more meaningful friendships must be one of those things. For me regular reading and writing habits also high on the list, Allocating regular time for household chores would be good, That may seem like a lot but as a retiree person, time is not an issue. Feeling good about one of those things would make rest easier, Maybe looking at the fall as a semester would be something to consider. Giving myself grades might help. I am not sure I am ready for some one else to do the grading, Well I've given myself food for thought, I'll be coming home in a couple of days, I need to get ready for my new semester now. emoticon

Great list of goals, and interesting analogy. Hmm. Not sure how far you want to go with all your goals, or how much time you plan to take to get there. Will 4 semesters do it by June? If not, you might find that signing up for summer school will help you graduate faster.

Blessings!

Good luck with your new semester! I sent my youngest daughter off to school on Tuesday and then it hits me... She's a senior- this is my last First Day of School! Now school has been canceled for 2 days and I feel like kicking her out of the house into the rain-Haha. Next year, I'll be crying when I ship her off to college.

I also have a list of things I'd like to accomplish, healthy eating habits is only one of them. Thinking of them as a school assignment is a great idea. Perhaps I'll try it too.

Hope you get good grades. I know you have a very good teacher- Yourself :-)
