Hope starts with you and me

Tuesday, October 14, 2008

Breast cancer is something that has affected my family directly. As many of you know, I lost my 29 year-old cousin, Tanya, to breast cancer earlier this year. October 26th is a very special day, Tanya would have turned 30 years old. It is also the day thousands of people in the Louisville area will come together to try to raise money to find a cure! Will you join us in raising money to find a cure? If you cannot donate monetarily, or walk with us, will you pray for this cause?

I have chosen to fight back against this disease and help make a difference by participating in the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancerฎ walk , and I hope you will join me.

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer is our opportunity to honor and celebrate breast cancer survivors, educate women about early detection and prevention, and raise money to fund lifesaving research and support programs to help fight breast cancer. But Making Strides is more than just the name of a walk. It describes the amazing progress we can make if we work together to defeat this disease.

Below is a link to my team page. I hope you will visit my site and sign up to join my team. If you prefer, you can start your own team, or sign up to walk as an individual. Hope starts with me and it can continue with you. Please join my team and walk with us to experience an incredible day of inspiration and meaning, and to provide hope for all people facing breast cancer.

Hope starts with you and me let's walk!

A very dear friend of mine is doing the 3-Day Walk in Tampa. I am convinced that the reason I got my cancer was to help her when she got hers! I'll be praying for you and your group for the Louisville walk, as well as my mom, sisters, etc who are participating in the Evansville, IN walk. Hopefully, we will find a cure!

Camping or Bust!

Thursday, October 09, 2008

We drove down to Otter Creek State Park last night and paid for our camp site for the weekend. We didn't want to leave last night. If I could have taken today and tomorrow off, we would have stayed. We will be leaving today when I get home from work. I have to make up a batch of chili and queso and we'll be ready to go.

The weather is P-E-R-F-E-C-T for camping! It will be chilly at night and we will be able to light camp fires and roast marshmallows to make Smores. We look forward to this every year. We meet some friends there and spend the weekend just sitting around talking, playing games, doing things with their kids and just enjoying each other's company. Saturday, the kids will get dressed in their Halloween costumes and go to each campsite to go Trick-or-Treating. It is a lot of fun!

I have *SO* much to get done before we leave! I'm off to make yet another list of things we need to remember to pack!

There's a whole group of us from our church who are going the weekend after Halloween. Last time, there were about 35 campers, ages from 6 months to 60 years! I KNOW how much fun you're having!!!

Blessings,
Mary

South Beach - Week 2 (-3.6 pounds)

Tuesday, October 07, 2008

Week two ended on a pretty good note. Of course, I would like to step on the scale and magically be my goal weight but that isn't going to happen. So, as long as the numbers on the scale are less than the week before - I am satisfied. I know the numbers could have been bigger if I would have followed the guidelines more strictly, but I have been sick and just wanted some comfort foods. I will say though, I have been conscience about my portions even if I wasn't eating "beachy" things. I think that is a step in the right direction of living a more healthy lifestyle.

Now, if I could get over this sinus/allergy/cold/whatever that I have, maybe I could get myself up and to the gym. I really do want to be working out but it's a little hard to push yourself when you can't breathe out of your nose! :)

Until next time,
Lisa

South Beach - Week One (-5.2 pounds)

Tuesday, September 30, 2008

Yesterday marked the end of week one of the South Beach diet George and I started. I am happy with the results: 5.2 pounds lost. George lost around 8, I think.

I have been going through quite a few health issues lately and I've only made it to the gym one time this last week. I found out this morning my blood pressure is up. So, she put me on a bp medicine and some other things for my headaches. Grr...I hate taking medicines. I am hoping the bp meds are just temporary, though!

I guess today was filled with emotional eating, so I haven't done so well today - but recognizing what it is and putting a stop to it now! I really do want to get this weight off of me! I know what it is doing to my body and I want it off of me!

Until next time,
Lisa
