F of Diet Free!!

Tuesday, April 20, 2010

F if Diet free!!!! I arrived at the hospital at least 40 minutes before class and went for a good 30 minute walk up and down the streets near the hospital! It was great......all the spring flowers are out, tulips, hyacinth, daffodils, flowering trees. It was gorgeous!!!! for find the fat! I am wearing my turquoise bracelet that says the same! The video we saw was about the good, bad and the ugly fats. Most of you probably know that the ugly fats are the worst!!!!!! They are the trans fats, which are partially hydrogenated and we really need to LOOK carefully at those food labels. Just because it says NO TRANS FAT, does not make it so. We need to be looking for partial hydrogenated, which raises the bad LDL and lower the good HDL!!!! This is just a smidgen of what we learned today; also Zonya talked about making us this.......aerobics R U! Make the commitment to get in the exercise and make sure you are working at a good level. Level 1 is light intensity, where you can carry on a conversation(casual walking or biking).Moderate intensity is level 2, breathing above comfortable, you can only sing a few words at at time (power walking, biking up a gradual incline). Level 3 is breathing fast, can still talk but not sing (jogging running, biking up a steep incline. The main point is to get in at least 150 minutes a week of moderate activity each week! Make sure you find at least 1/2 hour each day to get your exercise in. Schedule it like an appointment, and JUST DO IT!!!!!!

Life is not a matter of holding good cards. It's playing a poor hand well! Barbara Johnson

This is a great class--thanks for sharing things you learned and those you reviewed. I know that I have read a lot of this in articles here at SP, but I do best when I get to hear it. (I'm an auditory learner.) Your walk soundd lovely as well...I'm loving the green of spring and the flowers that are sprouting up too. emoticon

Thank you.......and our anniversary

Friday, April 16, 2010

Thank you, first of all, to those who sent goodies, posted comments on my blog, sent well wishes!!! THANK YOU !!!!!!!

We had a really nice dinner out at a really nice Italian restaurant; DH ordered lobster fettucini. I order mushroom/veal ravioli.....We each had a tossed salad; of course, my dressing was on the side, but DH likes his Italian dressing poured on, but it was a vinaigrette! Mine was a caesar dressing and I just dipped the tines in my dressing; there was soooooo much left over when I was done! We both ended up sharing a dessert......nona's poundcake with hot fudge, vanilla bean ice cream and a caramalized banana. Remember Zonya's tip.....a fruit/veggie with every meal!!!!!!! We DID NOT finish that nor our meals, so it was great taking some home. We both felt satisfied, not stuffed! I think I may have at least 2 more meals with mine!!! You gotta love that!!!! Italian reheats are the best!!

We went to a movie......"Date Night". It was OK......not great, but it was funny, stars Tina Fey and Steve Carrel! WE DID NOT buy any popcorn either, although that smell really was calling me, but I was NOT hungry and we just walked right past the concessions!

Yesterday my red hat friends congratulated me at Panera on our 32nd anniversary, which, by the way, when my dd called that AM, she suggested I have the multigrain roll, and I butter either! It was really good, while my other friends ate their egg/cheese sandwiches!

I took a walk when I got home yesterday morning too, even though I rode my stationery bike for 20 minutes. It was around 78 when I walked, but it felt so good, and my back/calf did not bother me much either!!!!

DH and I look forward to another 32 years together!!!!

The force of love, like the force of gravity, is hard to see but easy to feel! Barbara Johnson

32 years ago today......our wedding anniversary!

Thursday, April 15, 2010

WOW.....hard to believe 32 years ago I was a young bride and there actually were little flakes of snow coming down at times on our special day! Where does the time go!!!!???? We got a really lovely card from our in Austin, TX and the other in Chicago. Joe bought it.....wrote some really nice words in it and sent it to Mary, who wrote some teary words and we received it in the envelop Joe wrote out along with gift cards to our favorite restaurants!!!! We are celebrating by going out to a really nice Italian restaurant, and you know what.......I may be having dessert!!!! I've been banking my calories all week for a splurge, and this is a very special occasion, is it not!!!??????

I am leaving shortly after I ride my exercise bike to meet my red hat friends for coffee only at Panera! I'm not breaking that streak now!!! I've had coffee only since I have started attending the coffees.....way back in 06!!!!!

Prayer is kind of like calling home every day! Barbara Johnson

T......of DIET FREE!

Tuesday, April 13, 2010

This one is about TAME your sweet tooth and naturally eat as little sugar as possible!!! My bracelet I am wearing is favorite color and it says that on it (Tame your sweet tooth) This session is about being aware of how much sugar is in the food we eat!!! Every 4 gms of sugar is a tsp. Watch the sugar in those cereals, yogurts, can be a lot!!!! Instead of adding sugar to your oatmeal, how about cinnamon, berries, chopped apple, raisins. Why not dilute that lemonade which you think may be healthy, is really not. Minute Maid lemonade, 12 oz has 40 gms of sugar or 10 tsp!!!!!!!!!! That is crazy!!!! I still like my Crystal light......artificially sweetened, but I make mine so diluted, that it is just a slight flavoring, cuz I like my water that way!

These are all brief things I am telling you from the class, which by the way,has been very beneficial.......NEW HABITS!!!

Another tip.....Halve it and you can HAVE IT!!!!! Isn't that cool? So, if you're at a birthday party, have a piece of cake, but just half it!!!!!! We are still allowed 1-2 small treats a day with this plan.....IT IS NOT A DIET!!!!!!

Again, here is the link

I also like her exercise DVD.....more about stretching and movement!

So many choices at the Red Hat lunch today!!!!

Wednesday, April 07, 2010

I settled with a calzone...with chicken and cheese, but it was soooooo good and not real gooey! PTL!! I ended up only eating about 1/2 of it and 2 small pc. of garlic bread. I probably should have ordered a veggie to go with it, since my new plan calls for a f/v with every meal or snack, but I had fresh pineapple when I got home and my portion of celery, carrots, broccoli and cauliflower and actually rode my stationery bike for 20 minutes this AM and walked with my church/Spark/red hat friend for 40 minutes before our lunch, so I got in my exercise today....that's for sure!!

Thinking back on my choice of food for lunch, I think I did ok.....not great, but I was looking around a saw lasagna, veal parmesan, chicken and eggplant parmesan, and lots of pasta! And I did NOT eat all of it; will have the rest for dinner tonight!!

God can use reverses to move us forward. Barbara Johnson
