The E of DIET FREE with Zonya Foco

Another great class....with around 21 of us attending.. We are on the often....and include a fruit or vegetable each time. How many of you do that? OK, that means when you have a snack, be it crackers, a cheese stick, rice cakes....include a fruit or veggie....and that way you fill up with healthier choice.....well, not fill up.....after all, it is just a snack!!! This is a great habit I have been trying to incorporate into my lifestyle. Like any habit, it TAKES time!

We have homework too from our workbook...about this habit. Every day t his week, we are to include the time and what we ate for a veggie/fruit with our snack...there are 6 spaces, so you want to include it, of course at breakfast, lunch and dinner too......7-13 fruits and/or veggies/day! It sounds like a lot, but remember we are TRYING to get away from the processed junk!!!!! I hope you try this! Remember too, to make exercise your middle name. Why not stretch when you brush your teeth, lift your weights while sitting in a chair watching TV......just keep it moving. Also our dietician is trying to get us away from the computer and/or TV too....allowing 2 hours of both/day. I know I am way over that, so I am rethinking the teams I am on here and thinking of stepping down from some and also stepping down from the leadership roles, as they do take up more of my "movement" time. Plus, with my calf/back pain....I do not need to be sitting so much!!!

I'm wearing a lime green band this week.....and on it is printed: Eat often with a fruit/veggie each time! Will you try this habit with me!!!!???? I would love some company!!!!!

    I finally saw the show on PBS this weekend. Took lots of notes. So today I had a fruit cup and tomatoes at breakfast, a mid morning snack of applesauce and I just finished an orange and some celery. Now I am not saying I am totally committed yet to eating this often but it seems like a good way to keep those sweet craving at bay!

Today is my 2 year anniversary with Spark......ya, why am I not at goal???????!!!!! I am NOT going to beat myself up about it. Lord only knows, I've had my ups and downs, but I am now heading in the right direction.....REMOVING this weight. I got on the scale and am down another 4 sticks of butta......2# this week, so far!!! I do NOT feel deprived either using my new DIET FREE methods with Zonya Foco, who by the way, commented on my blog yesterday! What a wonderful surprise........and that just spurs me on all the more, so thanks Zonya again, for stopping by.

I got out for a 25 minute walk yesterday and yes, the old pains in my calf/back do come back and unfortunately, this time, they didn't go away too quickly and actually were bothering me as I was trying to sleep last night, and I exercised around noon. Maybe I need to get out there sooner, so I am going to do that this morning. I am NOT going to give up on my walks!!! They are too important to me. I will wear my back brace, tuck my tummy in, for added strength, take my ipod and MOVE IT!

We have a wonderful service at our church tonight.....Holy Thursday, where people of the congregation will have one foot washed by our priest. It is really quite moving. I can only imagine what the last supper was like with Jesus.....I be they had a veggie or fruit with their meal! (I know they had bread)!! LOL!

I am hoping to meet my church/Spark friend for a short 10 minute walk tonight; I don't want a big flare up with the calf/back pain like I did last week, when I did too much exercise and was up most of the night........cuz my dd and her beau are driving in tonight from Chicago. His parents live 5 miles from us!

I met his mom in a grief service at our church 2 years ago, and she had lost both her parents within 7 months of each other. I asked her if she had children, and she said she had a son who lived in Chicago, and I told her my dd lived in the Chicago area too.....well, we emailed pictures of our kids to each other and I emailed my dd pix of her ds. It took almost a year for them to go out on a formal date, and that was last Sept. and since then, they are inseparable!!!!! He is very nice too, as we had him over for Christmas dinner! I just had to share that God works in very mysterious ways!!

The I of DIET FREE.....with Zonya Foco

This was my 2nd class this morning......down 1/2#, and I'll take it.....that's 2 sticks of butta. We are not required to weigh in, but the scale is there if we want to. The only required weighing is the 1st and last class, which is in May sometime.

OK, so today we saw a video on the I of diet.....include breakfast and stop eating 2-3 hours before bedtime. The video was great. If you saw it on PBS, Zonya asked who liked donuts and a few people raised their hands, and she had one gal come up who usually ate 2! Anyway, Zonya had her can of shortening out and sugar and proceeded to scoop over 8 tsp. of shortening onto her hand! What a visual....that is what is in a donut along with I believe 8 tsp. of sugar, so her had was full!!!! Full of JUNKY ARTERY CLOGGING FAT!!!!!!!

I have homework too, recording "extra" movement to get every day and there is a place in my work book for this too along with good breakfast choices of cereals like Kashi Go Lean, Cheerios and a few more. Make sure when you buy a cereal it only has NO more than 8 gms. of sugar and at least 3 gms. of fiber. ALWAYS CHECK THE LABELS!

Good snacks to eat before bed......2-3 hours, cucumber spear rolled in a slice of turkey, a cup of blueberries, strawberries with yogurt, small banana.

I am really loving this class. I arrived at the hospital early enough to go for a 20 minute walk too, and that was great. Right now that is working best for me with my calf/back pain, which started during the walk, but the recovery time from it was very 5 minutes.

I'll be off shortly to teach RE....and I gotta get this house "picked up" again!! It doesn't take long for it become messy, and it's just me, DH and my cat, Bella!!!!!

Have a blessed's Holy Week for us Catholics.......Easter is just around the corner!!!

    After reading your blog, I googled Zonya Foco and actually checked out the book Water with Lemons from my local library. Its been a wonderful read so far; a great story and filled with wonderful insight about the "Power of One Good Habit." Thanks for sharing this information.

  What a great visual reminder to help us stay away from donuts! Yuck! Have a wonderful, blessed Holy Week. I feel extra "connected" this year - extra mindful of the sacrifice Jesus made for us, so we should say thanks by taking care of ourselves. It's so nice to feel that again!

    I missed it when she was on PBS last week but she is scheduled to come on again soon. I have my "search" button looking for her next show. Yuck, all that fat and sugar. Donuts don't call my name, but home made bread, fresh from the oven, now that is my vice! Anything I can make from flour and yeast and bake myself is what I'd rather spend my calories on. But, I am cutting back on that. I want to lose some butta too!

Walking with a Spark friend!

I talked to my church/Spark friend yesterday and she told me she was helping out at our church, which is only a mile from our house, on a funeral luncheon and so this morning, I called her on her cell and asked her if she wanted to go for a walk afterwards. She said SURE!!!! It is sooooooo much more fun to walk with a friend, and so we did a 20 minute walk and I had thawed out turkey noodle soup, and she stayed for a healthy lunch too...with reduced fat Club Crackers!!!! I still have to "pick up" my house, but what a way to start the day!!!!!! Thanks Denise!!!!!!!

    Life seems to be better when we have a friend around. I think walking is more pleasant because of the conversation and the extra eyes to notice what is out there and interesting.

    Isn't it so nice to walk with a Spark buddy? i jsut love it too. You know... When it's warmer out wear a spark people Tee shirt and you would be surprised at the commentsyou would get. Perhaps in the amll ore ven at a church function that si nto formal wear. Just a thought.

Drink your water!

The first step in my new Zonya Foco program. Here is the link again to find out more about this program and dietician I am wearing my little blue elastic type bracelet that says drink water and think......meaning besides drinking water, think about what else you might be drinking that adds loads of calories to your day!! It is very visual wearing it and I am drinking my water....using my straw, the easiest way for me to get it in! I also dilute my water with Crystal just get a hint of flavor! I got on the scale yesterday and had REMOVED another 1#......very slowly getting rid of this butta......that is 4 sticks by the way.....a good visual for me!!!!

    Water is one of my first 'must-dos'. It just makes everything else so much easier! I don't need a straw and I drink mine with ice whenever I can.

    I agree. I seem to be able to drink more water when I'm on the go by drinking it through a straw.

Where can I get some of these blue bracelets? I would like to get them for my weight-loss group.

    We must be two of a larger population. Today a walking Fitness trail excursion and a straw/water bottle has put me atthe highest cup count I have ever been at.
