Catching up!

Monday, December 28, 2009

The Christmas holiday with preparations for 13 put me a little behind, so I am slowly getting re-organized, and that feels good. I just cleaned/tossed stuff out of my pantry too. It looks sooooooo much better!

DH had his appt. this morning, but he used up most of his $1,000 for dental care, so he called the dental ins., and they will put it on 2010!! YAY. We will still have to pay for part of it, but it must be so difficult for people with NO dental insurance. We will have to pay 50% of the new crown with a post....tooth is almost gone!! He's in a little pain and just took some Advil and is lying down!

Bella is soooooo happy; she even licked my nose this morning in bed...laying that close to me. It was kind of cute! She was purring up a storm. I just wished she wasn't so afraid of people! My sis, her dh and mine and I are going out for New Year's eve and back to our house to play cards, so I know she will be back behind that couch again......even with all the books back there. Oh, well, she is NOT going to change, and I have to accept that. We've had for over 2 years. There must have been some trauma in her life as a kitten; I only got her when she was 5!! She'll be 8 on my dad's birthday, March 1!!

Finally, it has quit snowing; it's almost 3PM!!!!!!!! It started around 7 this morning!! We probably have close to 2" out there, and dh said it was slick when he went out. We're both in for the rest of the day; (I did not even go out at all).....having our turkey/stuffing, salad tonight!! YUM!!!!!!!!

I'm slowly starting to think of something new to write on my page for 2010! Do any of you do that as well!!!!!!??????

I thought this was funny on my calendar of Dec. 26 by Barbara Johnson

Remember, the Christmas presents of today are the garage sales of tomorrow!!!!!

Can't wait to see your new SP page...I'm working on mine as well.
Love that quote...it's oh sooo true!!!!!
As we get older, New Years Eve means that we watch the ball drop in NYC instead of the local news then it's sweet dreams for us. My BIL and his wife are coming for cards as well but they are early to bed people to. So far when we wake up the New Year is already here and we didn't miss a thing or have a hangover either.
Hugs, and HAPPY NEW YEAR.

    I like that quote!! LOL

So happy that your husband can have the procedure in 2010 and you will only have to pay 50%. I agree, I feel sorry for those without dental insurance. Procedures are so expensive!

    Hello Barbara,
Thank you for sharing with us. You should of sent the snow my way. I love to look at snow on the ground and all over. Just do not like the cold. I can not take the cold like I used when I lived in Alaska. But it's golder down in the lower 48 states than up there. The further you go up north it's cold, b/c they have the dry cold. And down below has the wet cold. Get what I mean? Stay warm...... emoticon

I like that quote, too, Barbara.

Ashley doesn't ahve dental insurance and I helped her pay to go to the dentist and she ahd X rays and diabnosis. It's not good. She needs over $2K in dental work done and no insurance. Ugh!

The snow sounds pretty and nice. Not a whole lot but jsut enough to enjoy. We ahve frigid freezing cold in the evenings and morning but no rain or snow.

My tiger (black cat) is timid like Bella. she loves it when Ashley comes over but when roberts daughter comes over she takes off and hides on top of the kitchen cabinets. silly cat.

Everybody's gone!!

Sunday, December 27, 2009

As we drove our son to the airport this AM, Mary too said her goodbyes......driving back to the Chicago area. I always get a little teary eyed when I have to say goodbye to my kids, but I know I will see them again. It's just different now that they're gone. Best thing is though, Bella, my little black cat, has come out of hiding!! She is purring and happy that everyone is gone!!

I got a phone call from a friend I had not been in touch with in almost a year, so she was walking and I rode my st. bike....it was great getting caught up and making a date to get together in this spring. She lives an hour away, and we feel we can wait till spring!! We can email each other and chat on the phone till then!

Poor dh.......he broke a tooth last week one day biting on something in his Chinese dinner. He actually thought it was just a little nerve problem, but on Christmas day, biting on a cracker he actually broke it!! He has an appt. to see our dentist tomorrow AM.......we have 75% coverage on crowns right now....through the 31st...then it goes to 50%.....so hopefully he can get that going before January 1!!!! I'm glad he's not in too much pain, as he went to a guy's Christmas party, and he left a little while ago. I loaded up cookies for him to take.......get them outa here, right!!!!!

Hugs to all of you!!!!!!!! Hope I didn't crush a rib!!! emoticon

A Christmas Carol.....Jim Carrey movie

Saturday, December 26, 2009

We went to the Imax theatre at the Henry Ford Museum...about 45 minutes from where we live......we wore the 3D glasses; everything popped out at us,and the theatre was packed!! It was a good movie....not great, but I thought it was good.....maybe a little scary for a little child of someone under 7! But the meaning was there and we all enjoyed it. We went out to dinner afterwards. I had grilled chicken with mushrooms and a side salad with my dressing on the side.

It's been a good visit with our two adult kids....very short; they both go back tomorrow early AM....We will take Joe to the airport.....flies back to Austin, TX, and Mary drives back to Chicago! I hate saying goodbye, but we'll see them again when Mary graduates with her masters in May!!

Hope everyone is gearing up for a new year on getting or staying healthy!!

Glad to hear you had a nice visit with your kids, sorry it was so short - but glad you were able to make the most of it. Safe travels for both of your kids. My son is supposed to be flying back from Chicago tomorrow to come home if the flights are not canceled again. Hope you have a great and successful 2010.

Christmas day

Friday, December 25, 2009

I got up early.....6:15....early for me anyway to stuff my turkey. I sautéed the onions and celery yesterday so that was good! Bill got up at 6:30 to help me with this 23 1/2# turkey!! I used the cool oven bags...with a little flour in the bag....stuffed the bird.....popped it in the oven and made extra dressing once the bird was done!! It turned out really well!!

We always start our Christmas morning by the stockings and sing happy birthday to Jesus.....it is after all what this season is all about. At dinner we had our usual blessings and Joe, my son toasted.......and we remembered my dad who died 2 years ago in September. It made mom feel good that her grandson brought that up. After present exchanging, we watched the dvd of my dad that was shown at the funeral home.....childhood through grown up memories. My mom wanted to see it. She does not have a dvd player, nor does she really want one, but she wanted to see the dvd....again. It brought back a lot of great memories of what families really are......together through thick and thin, and I'm glad to say that we are a pretty close knit family, despite all our differences.....it is love that holds us all close.

I'm wishing you all a very merry and blessed Christmas and Happy Birthday Jesus......and dad we miss you, but I know you had a great Christmas in heaven! I love you too!!

Christmas Eve day!

Thursday, December 24, 2009

I'm still up.....too excited!!! I feel like a little kid...waiting for Santa!! Mary and Joe arrived safely here later in the afternoon. Joe had dinner with us...I fixed a lf crockpot chicken. Mary met a friend for dinner and then met up with her beau, whose family lives in our town!!! His mom and I met at a grief event at our church 2 years ago and we each mentioned we had kids in the Chicago area.....long story short.......they only NOW (3 months ago) started dating!!! He will be here for dinner on Christmas day!!!

I have my notebook out for everything I will need to do today in preparation for the turkey dinner. I will saute the onions and celery this morning, refrigerate the get the rest of the "stuff" together for the stuffing!! There is talk about a storm coming.......rain/freezing drizzle......so I am hoping this will not deter my mom, brother and his wife from coming. I do NOT want them coming if there is a chance of getting into trouble on the icy roads, so we'll see.

We have several masses at our church tonight and Christmas day, and I am lectoring at our 4:30 mass. It will be so good to have my 2 kids, and hubby there.......hearing the story of the birth of Jesus!! I always pray more at this time that people will BELIEVE that there is God.....someone higher than them...a savior, Jesus born a king!! I know for me, I cannot even imagine a life without the Lord in it.....and a big part in it!! I pray to Him every day and want to lean on him more.....especially with losing the last 20 some pounds to get to goal. Maybe that's why this year has been a rough one.....I pray to God and worship Him......just don't pray for my weight removal, so I'm going to turn that around!!

Bethlehem's stable was the first step in God's love-journey to Calvary's cross. Barbara Johnson

Merry and blessed Christmas to all of you........my wonderful Spark friends, whom I hold dear to me.

I feel like a little kid too! The excitment of family, friends, food, gifts never keeps me from knowing the real reason we are celebrating. Each year I take small decorated birthday cakes that say, "Happy Birthday, Jesus!" to parties between Thanksgiving and Christmas. It's funny how many Christians are initially confused and then thank me for the visual reminder.
