small steps

Thursday, November 13, 2014

I have been doing a weekly thing. The first week I took my vitamins every day, the second week I drank 8 cups of water every day, this week I have been focusing on my food, next week I will add working out 3 days a week. I'm hopeful that this will be the start I need to reach my goals!

emoticon emoticon small steps is the best way to go. Take it one day at a time, one meal at a time. Eventually it just becomes habit. Sparkpeople is here for you if you want to vent! Hope you're having a great Friday!

Starting small is good. It can get discouraging to jump in and make a lot of changes. Like you, I've decided to make a couple of changes a week.

Make your goals specific. When you make your goal of working out 3x/week, how long do you want to work out? Being specific can help you reach your goals, and also hold you accountable. My first week was to exercise 20 minutes 5 days a week. My goal for next week is to do strength training for 20 minutes 3 days a week.

It all comes down to choices...

Do I choose to eat healthy or do I choose to eat crap
Do I choose to workout or do I choose to lay around and watch tv
Do I choose to fuel my body or do I choose to just feed it
Do I choose to put my free time to good use or do I choose to waste it
Do I choose to write angry blogs at midnight or do I choose to write about results
Do I choose to complain or do I choose to share success

These choices aren't always easy or at least they don't seem easy. But the bottom line is they are my choices. Mine to make. Nobody else is going to make these decisions for me. I put the food I eat up to my mouth noone is force feeding me. I choose to spend my free time sleeping or watching tv instead of exercising. I might need to do things alone or only with spark friends because maybe none of my friends here will stick to things but that doesn't mean I need to fail. I can't depend on others for my success. If I want something bad enough then I am going to be responsible for myself for my own actions for my own choices. I can't keep blaming others because I only have me to blame. It's time to own up. I can't keep complaining about my lack of results when I am the one not putting up the effort. I can't keep complaining about being fat and lazy if all I am gonna keep doing is being fat and lazy. If I want to lose weight and be health then I need to change my current habits. Albert Einstein said "The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results". I can't expect to see changes if I am just doing the same stuff. Time to own up to it. Either I change for me or I'm done.

Batch Cooking!

Sunday, May 18, 2014

So today was my first attempt at batch cooking and I must say I think it went pretty well. It took a lot longer than expected but I did some shopping the day of and was also doing laundry and other odds and ends during the cooking process so I think if I could knock out a block of time and reserve it for only cooking that would help me cut down the fact that today took me around 8 hours to do everything. Still not bad when I realize I will only need to grab and go or reheat and eat for the whole week for every meal! I owe it all to #triwellnessgirl on Instagram check her out if you get a chance she is pretty awesome! Anyways the result of my batch cooking was....get's pretty amazing....

24 servings of berry berry protein oatmeal bars

12 servings of berry berry spinach egg bakes

10 servings of veggie chili

8 servings of sesame-hemp seed chicken

6 servings of orange spicy chicken

6 servings of brown rice

5 servings of fish and potatoes

I have a portioned out snack bowl with some roasted edamame, granola bars, popcorn and that kind of stuff for quick grab and go snacks. I also have steamable frozen veggies for dinners and lunches and an assortment of fresh fruits and veggies.

I didn't get to do everything I wanted to do but I am proud of my first attempt and I am hoping my next attempt will be quicker and easier since I have a little experience. I did share all the recipes that I made but the credit goes to #triwellnesgirl on Instagram. Check her out here she was on sparkpeople but now she does more stuff on Instagram and facebook and she is pretty awesome. She has definitely been an inspiration to me.

product shout out

So if you haven't tried Noosa yoghurt yet I highly recommend it. I tried the peach today and it was fantastic! I made it into a parfait with special k cereal. It is a little higher in calories so I had a half serving but it was very tasty! I can't wait to try more flavors. I might also try to make it into frozen yoghurt pops using my popsicle molds.

my breakfast parfait!

It will be in the organic or specialty section most likely but could be with regular yoghurt. I got mine at Earth Fare a specialty grocery store but they sell it at regular grocery stores too like kroger and meijer.
