Anyone use Whey Protein or Muscle Milk?

Just wondering about the products, themselves. Please let me know your experience with the product. Best brand, Best Taste, Benefit, if any and Simple recipes. I'm very cautious of any supplements and I definitely don't want to hinder my weight loss. Is the product high in calories? Thanks

    I use whey protein only on days that I do strength training. I prefer the chocolate flavor, others aren't as good. I like to mix mine with vanilla soymilk so is almost like drinking chocolate milk. Sometimes I only do half of the serving with the milk and add a little water (otherwise it could be too sweet). I like to add a half a frozen banana sometimes too.
I suggest that you buy a small container of it a store to try and then research online because more often than not a big container is a lot cheaper online, even with shipping. As far as the brand, I haven't reallly noticed a difference in whey protein for chocolate, I have tried different ones and I usually get the ones on sale and they all taste the same to me!

    I have been using Whey protien for awhile now, add it to my smoothies and chocolate milk after a workout. I have tried several kinds and the one that tastes the best in my opinion is AMP, you can buy that at GNC or Mass Muscle, but I buy it at Sam's Club at its much cheaper. Hope that helps.

    I use Muscle Milk. It's great for making home-made, healthy smoothies. Just throw some fresh fruit, milk (or water), and ice in a blender or Magic Bullet, and I'm good to go.

    Hey - I've been using Muscle Milk for about two years now, and like Msliver94 says, I find that it's pretty tasty. My personal favorite is Chocolate. But you can get the powder in chocolate, strawberry, cookies and creme, vanilla, and I think I saw banana yesterday. Generally it's 50 bucks for the tub; but GNC normally has it on sell for 25-30 bucks per tub. Not all whey proteins are created equal. I've had some that tasted absolutely horrid, rancid, putrid crap. So choose wisely - you don't want a container of something you dread ingesting. Sometimes you can find just individual serving packs of the different brands. This will be good for experimentation. Sometimes you can find pre-made individual containers all ready chilled for your enjoyment. I've seen Muscle Milk at 7-11 and gas station convenience stores; while other brands I've found at the nutrition shops. Are you doing this as a meal replacement? A snack? One brand that's pretty expensive, but very good (tasting and amount of protein ingested in a single serving is Isopure. My wife had the Gastric Sleeve procedure done in October 2010; and she has to ingest protein on a daily basis. She found that the Kirkland brand at Costco was "cost effective" and she prefers the taste. If you're concerned about calories / muscle milk is 300 calories for one serving - there is Muscle Milk light... which is about half that. Some of the 'recovery protein' drinks, which are consumed after working out to help repair muscles, have less calories. I've found an orange one that I like. Most objections I've heard raised about protein drinks is more of a texture thing, than a taste thing - when people don't like them. Some are gritty, some have this thick pasty feeling that just doesn't agree with your senses. But, you'll get used to them. All the best - Lee

    I use the vanilla ice cream flavor of Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey Gold Standard protein powder. 1 scoop gives 24g of protein or so. Cost is $24 for 1lb, which is 20-25 servings, I think. I buy the 5lb tub, which I've gotten for about $40 (by searching the Internet). I generally just add water and maybe some frozen fruit in a blender.

I've used several brands over the years (Solgar, Progenex, Muscle Milk) and it is the one I liked the most. Like the previous poster, I use it right after I exercise, especially if I'm lifting weights.

    I've used both whey protein and muscle milk...whey protien is just a type of protien powder and muscle milk is actually a brand...whey protien seems to be one of the main protiens used in protien shakes and I have never had any problems with it...its not bad in calories at all and can taste pretty good. Muscle Milk is more expensive but very tastey! Almost like a real treat to get to have. I haven't bought the protien powder mix (can be like $40) but I've drunk the premixed shakes- and they are very yummy. I wouldn't sit around and just drink protien shakes though, because protien that is not used, like anything else will turn into fat/ excessive calories...I drink mine for a quick meal replacement or after a work out.

Back In the Game (MIA, almost a week)

Okay last night I went to Zumba with 2 Girlfriends. I actually had fun. Was pretty strong and did the whole class. I plan to resume my 30 Day Shred and do some Water Fitness tonight. I'm a bit agitated with myself as I wanted to do 30 Days straight but I can honestly say I have did some type of exercise every day. Long Walks to Think and Clear my Head, Lots of Gardening and Yard Week (Therapeutic for me). Surprisingly, I didn't sabotage myself with food through my stress. That's probably a sign of major success for me. God's Grace is Sufficient. His Mercies are new every morning. Last week, I was just to mentally and emotionally exhausted to sit down and journal my Spark Journey, This week, I have even smiled a little; maybe no more rain in left in my cloud.

But you friends are always there when I return. One Day I will learn, Life doesn't always go like we plan it. Got to get to work.

    You sound like you have found a zone and thats good. I hate being stressed since it does lend to unwanted weight gain and stressful eating. You should be proud!

30 Day Shred - Day 7

This mornings workout was nothing to shout about. Probably due to the fact I didn't sleep last night. No Rest, No Energy. But I did finish the workout.

Had some emotional hurdles to jump last night and didn't get in a workout. Too busy crying. It made for a workout though. I was tired when I finished, but couldn't sleep. I feel like I want to be sedated. Wake me up when this divorce is over. No more pain please.

It's on to the next one! Let's keep it moving people!

30 Day Shred - Days 5 and 6

Well I didn't blog this weekend but I got in my Workouts. I logged on to be welcomed this morning with 20 points on the Spark wheel. "For me" that a momentous occasion in itself. If that's any indication as to how my week will go emoticon

Workout 5 -Truly, I was being to become bored with the workout. The same moves. But I changed the music up and what a difference that made in motivation. I owe a big shout out to JOURNEY2LOVINME for turning me on to Pandora's "Lose My Breath" radio station. I pumped it up !

Workout 6 - I can truly feel the results of workout consistency. I threw down the lighter weights and went for more. Guess what I could do it. Things that were extremely difficult are easier. I am developing Stamina and Strength. So excited.

Have a Sparkalicious Day. I will!

I can still hear Destiny's Child while doin my workout. LOL I'm so pumped!

30 Day Shred - Day 4

Well, I'm hanging in there. I completed my 2nd AM Shred workout. I must be honest though. I had a great workout but I'm exhausted.

So happy my muscles are cooperating. I'm at the office, got a meeting today. So Sleepy, my eyes are heavy. Anyone have toothpicks to hold them up?

    30 day shred is no joke. I have never gone past 3 whole weeks. I am doing her ripped in 30 days and I am dying but my body is starting to come together in just 3 days of the work outs. I am also doing the 6 week to 6 pack abs by jillian. Good luck. I will see you at the finish line.

    Girl when they took our work from home days...I almost went into CARDIAC ARREST!! I hate coming into the office. I am a PM and there is nothing I can't do from home except get hard sign offs. Ok now that I am finished RANTING!!

Tonight I plan on doing Shred - Level 1 (that's all I can commit to at this point)
