Day 35

Thursday, March 06, 2014

This morning I woke up with a sore throat so I had a blueberry smoothie for breakfast, and it was so delicious and felt great on my throat. I don't much mind being sick, because it builds up your immune system. I just hate being injured.

Today, to treat my cold, I'm going to drink extra water and get my walk in after school, and have a green smoothie then go to bed early. And hopefully I'll get the results back from my x-ray.

I might be able to get my level up this time, after all.

7 days to go.

Day 34

Wednesday, March 05, 2014

I finally went and got my wrist examined and x-rayed, because its been over a month and it never did heal up. The doc said that if the xray shows a break, since its been so long he will just splint it and put me in physical therapy but that its unlikely to be a broken bone since it is still so painful after all this time. He thinks more likely its a torn ligament and that it will need surgery to fix it. =(

At any rate I am not going to worry about it until the results from the x-ray are read.

Also he fussed at me a lot since I haven't seen any medical professional in maybe 3 years or more, and since I haven't been taking my meds or doing anything about my conditions at all. He made me a list of things he wants me to take care of, and to come back in a month, and to get some blood drawn this week.

I have sort of a cave man mentality about medical care in the US, that whatever is wrong will probably heal and that most anything docs can do will make it worse so I am reluctant to take their pills or to go to them at all. But in the case of my wrist, it just isn't healing so I went in.

I'm going to see about getting myself some health care coverage this week, to help me pay for some of this stuff my doc thinks I need. What a bother. Who knows what I will owe for the visit yesterday and the x-ray, but I imagine it will be a lot. At least they will let you pay it out.

8 days to go.

I tore a tendon in my elbow and the surgeon told me he wouldn't do surgery for 18 months and it would take at least 12 months for it to feel more like normal...I know how you must be feeling...take care.

Hopefully you can view your relationship with any doctor as a partnership. You are the one who knows your body and can determine when those visits are necessary. I get blood work twice a year because of lupus flare I had in 2003 and 2007. I only see the doctor once a year. I would rather catch something before it unfolds. Hope you find the insurance that works for you. Blessings! emoticon

Day 32

Monday, March 03, 2014

This new food processor is fantastic!! Its so fast and it works so well!! I didn't know what I was missing. This one has 2 horsepower, compared to my old one that had something like three-quarters...

Two classes today, I can't believe we're already a quarter through the semester.

The scale went down by .3 or .4 today, but I'll take it. =)

10 days to go.

Makes shredding beets and carrots so easy :)

Day 31

Sunday, March 02, 2014

Day before yesterday, my food processor quit working. It was a tragedy because, without it, what do I eat--I blend almost all of my food, at least somewhere in the preparation. So yesterday I got another one,and so far it's great. It is more powerful than my old one was, and has more attachments, and cost a lot more. But ah well, at least I can blend again. It has little individual smoothie cups, so I'll be able to set them up the night before, and then just stick it on the machine in the morning then take the cup with me. =)

I work today, and I am dreading it because it hurts my feet so much but I'll get another $100 to put on my Goat card, the one I'm playing off at the moment. So far I haven't really improved my Chinese by being there, and the only girl that speaks English is quite a little bitch.

My poem-a-day is going well so far, but I am one day behind because one of the poems didn't "stick" with me and I had to work on it for two days instead of one. The poem for today is long, and has a lot of foreign words so it will be hard too.

Only 11 days to go.

Day 29

Thursday, February 27, 2014

I don't know. I am somehow off on my days. What I know for sure is that I have 14 days to go.

My daughter and I have started doing a memory game together, to improve our memories, or what I am hoping is that it helps me memorize more quickly. What we are doing is, we bought a "Poem a Day" book, and each day we are memorizing one poem. We copy it down and take it with us, wherever our respective days take us. Then in the evening we recite the poem to each other.

Today is day 3 and today's poem is boring.
Yesterday's poem, though, was interesting and creepy, and a little shocking. I like it.

Here it is:

What the Bullet Sang
by Bret Hardt

O Joy of creation,
To be!
O rapture to fly
And be free!
Be the battle lost or won,
Though its smoke shall hide the sun,
I shall find my love, the one
Born for me!

I'll know him where he stands,
With the power in his hands
Not o'er thrown.
I'll know him by his face,
by his god-like front and grace,
I shall hold him for a space,
All my own!

It is he, O my love
So bold!
It is I, all thy love
It is I, O love, What bliss!
Dost thou answer to my kiss?
O Sweetheart, what is this?
Liest there so cold.

14 days to go.

Interesting!!! But the memorization of poems is for sure a good way to exercise the brain and keep it limber.

I have to say, though, having a teen in the house frequently fits that bill! LOL
