I want to love fruit....

Thursday, March 08, 2012

I do. Want to that is. And I suppose if someone prepared a wonderful variety and delivered it to me several times a day I might. Meanwhile, I don't.

Raised by a generation that was newly delighted with TV dinners and canned fruits and vegetables, i honestly don't remember meeting fresh fruit till I was a mom. Canned pineapple, peaches and pears were the variety that molded my youth. Maybe that's why I'm not hooked in to it now. (And sadly and with some embarrassment, I still love canned green beans)

Every morning as I brush my teeth and hand-deliver some handfuls of fresh, cold water to the awakened me, I thank God anew for the great stuff He made for us. I actually marvel at it. Water is high on my list of yummy things to be grateful for and most grateful I am.

I wonder if I could begin to view fruit - the gloriously fresh kind - as a gift from Him. Well, it is after all, and as such learn to appreciate it, maybe love it, and certainly seek it.

So far it isn't working. I'd appreciate any suggestions you might have to help me start loving the good growing stuff He made to keep us healthy.

I had to laugh, water is my number one yummy too and I also love canned green beans...much better tha the frozen. As for fruit, could you buy the pre cut fruit at the supermarket? It isn't exactly delivered to you, but it's the next best thing. I persoally concentrate more on veggies...but most days I force myself to have one apple...but fruit is not my biggie either! xxx

Smoothies are a nice start as it is a drink and might be more palatable for you.
I am a fruit lover to the you have me really thinking.. Lol!

It depends what you have a taste for - sweet, crunchy, tart...what are your preferences? An apple is a nice start...I'd go for a sweet full of flavor pick like a Pink Lady or the rather expensive Honeycrisp. These are so full of flavor!

Berries are luscious too. Fresh berries like blueberries, dew berries, raspberries and blackberries make The emoticon cobbler in the whole world! Lol!!

Smoothie with banana and strawberries is yummy! And I love a fresh fruit salad with oranges, strawberries and bananas! Really haven't been a big fan of fruit until lately, but I found that when I get all the processed sweets out of my body the fruit tastes better and is much more enjoyable!

Ask God to give you a desire for healthy fruits! He answers when we call on Him for help!

As far as fresh fruit - I love it. Not sure how you can learn, except keep trying different varieties

Well made my mouth water with those tasty descriptions. And maybe I haven't given them a chance. I buy them and then throw them away. Perhaps I need only commit to two weeks of a fruit or two a day. Thanks for the sensory advertisement.

And ROVegan---I actually don't even do canned fruit anymore - just no fruit at all but I will try your suggestion of a smoothie as a starting point.

Thank you both!

Oh my. This I just cannot fathom! Surely everyone who gave it a fair chance would absolutely fall in love with fruit! Bursting with beauty. Full of flair. Oh so good to you and so fullfilling. And forgiving...very forgiving in the tracker department. So readily available when you are in need of something...uh...well, fresh! So delightfully scented. No recipe needed for success with fruit. I can go on and on about the ways we love fruit at my house! Go quickly to the supermarket and load up on a variety. A fresh pineapple is so superb! And crunchy Grapes...yummm!

Try making a smoothie with a real banana and some other real fruit. I think this may be a great way to transition.

I could also add that the cans are laced with BPH on the inside, that sugar is added to most, that the majority of fruit unless organic has pesticides, fungacides, herbicides, grown in dead soil and makes it to the market that way. But, would this make a difference?

My golden is lame in both legs

Tuesday, December 08, 2009

Last night on our way to bed, Sully tore his left ACL. Just like the first one a year ago, something happened on his way inside, he gave a yelp, and hasn't been able to put any weight on it since. Since he was still having problems with the right one, having to carry all the weight has bowed it outward.

It breaks my heart. He is only a dog --- I do know that, but he is my dog and room mate and a fine one at that. I'm waiting to hear from the vet right now. I can't afford another surgery, no less two of them so I hope there are other options.

Such sweet companions goldens are...all giving and asking nothing in return except a fetch or two. We could learn something from God's creatures.

Thanks for listening.

Just came across your blog and wanted to wish healing thoughts for Sully. I have two goldens now and a mutt, but my previous golden tore her ACL then surgery... then of course the other one went (was told by ortho that 33% of dogs that tear one, eventually tear the other). I was able to at the time do surgery for both knees, but know that I couldn't do that now. Previous to the first surgery, when Morgan initially got injured - she was just on strict bed rest... leash out to potty, etc and I believe was given rimadyl for a bit (or perhaps some other type of pain killer). She did fine for a good 6-8 months...then tore it worse :( but, maybe you can work out with your vet a better medication that would help it heal over time.
I wish Sully major healing thoughts.

NOT "just" a dog... but better than 95% of the people by any measure you can name!

How old is Sully?

I had some tough times with my Shadow over a torn ligament but I bought him what I hope was good quality of life with anti-inflammatories and rest...

He was 15 when that back knee blew out on him the last time and I was not going to subject him to a surgery... it's so hard to know what is the right thing to so for these guys... but I know you will find that pooch a way to get relief...

I am concentrating every positive thought I have right at Sully... Get better, pal!!!

He is a kind, loving, generous creature of God who teaches human beings how we should act towards one another.
He is a friend who comforts you when you're sad and makes you smile when you need it most.
He is the most sane member of the family when most everyone else is totally dysfunctional.

Talk about making a joyful noise unto the Lord

Sunday, December 06, 2009

We had the most glorious experience at church this morning. I'm not sure I can convey it in mere words, but here goes.

Every once in awhile we have a blue grass group that lead the worship songs. That alone is a treat. They are all above 55 and bring a smile to all ages. Today, one of the singer/muscians invited a relatively new friend of hers, Chris, to join them as they led our last song - -- Go Tell It on the Mountain. She choked up when she introduced him saying when she heard him sing for the first time a few weeks ago she was moved in so many ways.

Chris is about 40 I'd guess and is developmentally disabled. When he opened his mouth one of the most beautiful voices I've ever heard sang out that Jesus Christ was born. His articulation is a bit fuzzy, but he makes up for that in joy. I don't know whose smile was bigger - Chris' or the ones on each of our faces. He sang one of the verses alone into the microphone.

Not one word was sung to us. Each note and phrase rang out for Jesus. Stuff like this doesn't happen often to those with cognitive and other developmental delays. What a blessing today was for all of us; Chris' smile said it all.

Our father does indeed gift each of us with a unique gift that we alone have. How blessed I feel that Chris shared one of his with us.

Thanks for reading this. I'm still smiling..... Peggy

QF-ing and my morning :-)

Saturday, December 05, 2009

Well there I was waiting, waiting to get some blood work done this morning. It started because I didn't want to go in the waiting room with all the sick people, and there I was in this wonderful dead end hallway. So who wouldn't Quick Fire in a situation like that, I ask? And I did for the 20 minute wait - no one thing for very long but just movin and dancing all wall pushupping, and lunging and even jogging. IT WAS AWESOME.

One of the blood techs said,
"What are you doing the pee-pee dance?" Well really! I thought everyone knew about QFs.

My personal trainer upped the stakes this morning and I am typing this with still trembly arms. I think I like it. And I feel blessed that he is so responsive to my needs and my input even though he is only 12 years old - I swear. But I'm still a bit puny so I'm off to a nap in a bit.

Getting healthier is pretty cool. Cheers! emoticon
