Hi All
What I’ve been doing…
I had this very old stationary bike by ‘Vitamaster’…I think this was from the 60’s and daily I would cycle for an hour. It worked for fine for a while…then the tension indicator stopped working. No problem…I just kept pedaling without it. Then the bike chain kept slipping off. That was just an aggravation to keep putting it back on, so I took it off. I was still able to bike and that was ok with me. Then I started to experience grinding noise. I’m sure it was loose bearings or something…it was pretty loud and made it hard to pedal. I had to turn the volume up on the TV in order to hear above the noise. LOL
Then I decided it’s time to get another stationary bicycle.
I put up ads looking for one and searched EBAY and Craig’s List too.
The other day I stopped at Sports Authority to see what they had…they were all too big and more than I wanted to spend. I did a few more errands, said…what the heck, let me stop in KMART and see what they had to offer. Boy did I make out. There was a bike on clearance, the Floor Model…or I should say the model that was sitting high up on a platform. The size and style was just what I was looking for and the price was right too. Well this morning I put in an hour. Such a difference, nice fat padded seat and so quiet too. I’m going to enjoy this.

I’m making progress!
Doctor’s scale showed 160…a fifteen pound weight loss. YAHOO!
My daily blood readings have drastically changed which makes me really happy and seeing a drop in my A1C blood test too.
I’m not done…and I know I have to keep this up for my health. I see my doctor again in January and hope to improve in my numbers even more.
I hope you are all reaching your goals. Never get discouraged and never give up.

I'm still here and I'm making a difference

I’ve been MIA from Sparkpeople since I last wrote, but haven’t stopped my efforts in making a difference in my eating and exercise.
September 25th I have an appointment to see my Doctor…then I will know for certain if all this effort has been worthwhile. (I hope so, I feel like it has… I’ve been very pleased with blood sugar readings and the scale is definitely showing a lower number. The latter will be posted on my page once I get it official from my Doctor. :o)
I haven’t gotten back to the gym yet, but I do put in an hour on my stationary bike. I have also been doing lots of yard work, which I really enjoy. My arms are the only part of me that is tan. What a contrast against the rest of me. LOL

Hope not to jinx this, but sometimes sharing is good. I hope that I can keep to the goals that I have set for myself.
Last time I was at my Doctor’s office, I requested an RX to attend a Diabetic class that was being provided by a local hospital.
I was looking for that ‘kick in the pants’ to wake up, to be better educated about food and to try and make a difference in my sugar readings.
The class met once a week for four weeks. I came away with a much better understanding of reading food labels and when I should be doing my ‘after meal’ blood tests. When eating out, I work at making better choices and when possible, only eat half (as we all know, restaurants provide very large portions). Despite my ‘plantar fasciitis’, I try to exercise (i.e. stationary bike)…which is more than I have done in a long, long time…but it’s a start.
Following the end of the class and unbeknownst to me I have a follow up appointment in September with the instructor. (This gives me all the more reason to adhere to my regime). My blood readings at home have drastically changed, but what concerns me is my A1C test, that is the number I want to change lower and of course, drop about 10 to 15 pounds. The latter is a slower process, but I hope to make a change there too.
September, I will be checking back in with my results, and I pray that I will be successful in reaching my goals.

Week 2 - I'm still hanging in there.

I've been MIA on the posts for a while...but for a good reason.
Last Monday (2/20)I joined a gym and I feel real good about this.
If you haven't read them, check out my earlier blogs on my taking the plunge of joining a Gym again.

So far I've been attending classes every day. Mostly in the wee hours in the morning, but that works for me.
This way I still have a full day to do whatever I want and that works for me.
So far I have taken classes in: TRX (Exercise support straps), ZUMBA GOLD (for the older crowd...but still a good workout, YOGA, SPIN, PUMP (Weight lifting) and CARDIO KICK BOXING.
Hope to keep up with the schedule...of course that means early to bed.

That's ok...I like the feeling of being able to do these things and I really feel energized after a class.

    Remember to take the time for a looooooooooooooooooong stretch after.
I plan on 10-15 minutes at the end of every workout.
You don't want to end up with any injuries.
I have been suffering with hip bursitis for almost 2 years now because I did not understand this important part of fitness.

3rd Day Miracle

Well following my TRX experience – The next day I was definitely feeling the burn… plus pain and soreness too. Well that is to be expected. That was some work out.
The next day I attended a ZUMBA class and followed it up with YOGA class. Now I have had YOGA in the past….but that was a while ago. I think a lot of my arm soreness is from this class. Those ‘Down-Dog’ positions can be brutal.

This morning (note that I could barely move out of bed and lift the comforters off – my arms were so sore) But I figured the best way to get through the soreness was to get back to the gym. I drove over in the wee hours and experienced my first Spin class …At times I felt like I was pedaling in cement, but managed to get through the class. Whew!

I hung around for the next TRX class. A different instructor and I liked the variations that she had in class.
My arms are still sore and I anticipate my legs to be sore tomorrow. The instructor did say to drink lots of water so I will be doing that a lot today.
Getting back into the ‘Gym’ scenario is not easy, but I’m committed to keep this up. So far the classes I’m taking are early in the morning and I kinda like that as I’m able to get home, clean up and do other things.
Will keep you posted.
