DAY 176

Thursday, March 26, 2009

YESTERDAY:

Exercise: 45 min pool/30 min elliptical
Food: not so good
Nicotine Free

I'll try sugar free chewing gum for my nicotine cravings. Thanks for the suggestion. That's allot better than a pint of ice cream. While I'm not happy with my food intake at the moment I'm happy with my workouts at the gym. And as I see it overeating and working out at the gym simply don't go together so I'll have to quit one, and it wont be the gym. I feel my resolve strengthening.

I like the sugarfree candies and gum idea too. Good one, Loegaire! Nice ride. My hubby has an ancient (four more years and it gets an antique status plate, lol) Goldwing.

How about sugar-free hard candies? Like the gum, it gives your mouth something to do. Also, you might try keeping a pen or pencil to fiddle with. Gives your 'holding' hand something to do as well.

DAY 175

Wednesday, March 25, 2009

Yesterday:

Exercise: Gym: elliptical 20min; ai chi 45 min
Food: still not doing well
Nicotine Free

I'm still not doing well with the food. I'm eating when I get nicotine/cigarette cravings. This is mostly in the evening. I'm trying to make up for some of this in the gym, unfortunately I can't spend 24 hours a day in the gym... emoticonHowever it's only about a week since I completely quit the patches and the cravings are lessening. So the food situation should improve. I forgot to weigh myself today. I know it would not have been good.

You're getting there! Before you know it those cravings will be gone and your eating will be back on track.

Great job on the elliptical. For some reason I just can't do that darn thing!

    slow and steady...

So are you snacking on chips/cookies/candy or is it healthier foods but you're just eating more than usual?

When my hubby first quit smoking, he chewed a lot of sugarless gum. Have you tried that? It is also helpul, he said to have something you can do with your hands. He sanded and varnished a large buffet. He does still eat though but his Mom and Dad quit when they were in their 50's and neither one gained very much. I guess it depends on the person. Hubby did gain. But he is also disabled so that he can't work and that adds boredom to the equation. Good luck and have a great evening. Pam

Sounds like you're doing great with the gym membership! But what thrills me the most is seeing every day being nicotine-free - continued congratulations on that one!!! emoticon

I pay attention to the soreness, letting it determine how much I do. I want to be sore afterwards. The next day is fine but not the day after that since it is then that I hope to do it again!

Good for you. You are really moving. The sorness should go away but be careful not to overdue. Sounds like the pool aerobics would be fun. Have a great day. Pam

YAY for the good sore!!! I'm having that myself today - did some weights yesterday and was tempted to push a little harder, but glad I didn't.

DAY 172/173

Monday, March 23, 2009

Yesterday:

Exercise: walked 2 miles
Food: not too good
nicotine free

I've been fighting a sinus infection the passed few days. I've been sleeping allot and have not been exercising as usual. The sinus infection started just as I enrolled in the gym... I guess it needs to run its course. Nevertheless I'm going to the gym today. I'm dedicating this week to getting both my exercise and food intake under control. Quitting the last strength of patches was rather difficult. It's brought on a whole new wave of cravings. But I know this shall also pass...

I hope you are starting to feel better. Doesn't it always seem to happen like that - you just get going with something new and you come down with an illness that puts you on the sidelines for a bit. I think we've all been there. We just need to remember to take it a day at a time, plus, this is a lifestyle change, not a race, so just do what you need to do and don't worry about rushing toward the finish line. Take care of yourself!!

I'm sorry you are not feeling well. If I could send you my extra energy to do what needs to be done as easily as a couple of teabags, I would. Sometimes we dance along, sometimes we trudge but the journey is still the journey. I want to tell you for the eleventy millionth time how proud I am of you for quitting smoking. That is a vewy vewy big deal and I have no idea why I want to talk like Elmer Fudd on your blog, lol.

OMG my sinuses are totally hating me right now, too... it's the change of weather and things blooming. Feel better, don't push /too/ hard, but your focus will only help you stay healthy for the long haul.

You'll get there Barbara. You should feel so proud of everything you've accomplished. Quitting smoking is one of the hardest things to do, especially while you are trying to lose weight. I have faith in you - you will get through this and be back on track. I guess you just need to put your pirate hat on - sorry, just couldn't resist!!

Take Care My Friend!!

Food may be a hit and miss deal for a while until you aren't tracking the nicotine free part so closely. It was an accomplishment in the beginning and your plate is full here. Take up some other bad habit so you can get your control of food back. I recommend swearing like a pirate! lol
