Spring-t o-Summer Trip Walking Challenge

Thursday, March 21, 2013

One of my favourite DONE Girls XPhoeniX started a new challenge. It is the Summer-to-Spring Trip Walking Challenge. And since I am doing a virtual hike on my Germany team already, I just love to join this one!!

I live in Frankfurt, which is almost in the middle of Germany, so tons of nice goals to pick. The challenge lasts from March 20 til June 21... 92 days. And I go for 5 km a day, which means 460 km by beginning of summer.

Some of you might know that I lived in Milan, Italy for a while. Unfortunately, with my 5 km a day, I won't get there. But there is is this beautiful spot not far away, just cross the border to Switzerland... it is called Lugano, directly at Lake Lugano. The distance from Frankfurt ist 457 km... I go for it!

And if I am doing really really good, I could reach Milan with additional 61 km.

If I make it there, I even walk up the steps to the roof of "Il Duomo".. I did that once and just thinking about it, make my thighs burn like hell ;))

BarbaraSch lost 70 kg with Sparkpeople...

Thursday, March 14, 2013

... if only!!!

I see this lately on my Sparkfeed about once a week. Every time I update my current weight.
I have linked my SP to my FitBit account and when I sync the data to update my daily steps, my weight (128 kg) is getting transfered to FitBit and somehow interpreted as lbs and and transfered back to Sparkpeople and I end up weighing only half of what I do (approx.).

I already contacted SP support AND FitBit support, but nobody could help me. This is getting a bit annoying and I really think about de-connecting (is that a word??) my 2 accounts. This whole data synchronisation is not worked out yet, I guess..

okay, that's it!! I am deconnecting those two accounts. Not only that I lost 70 kg... now and additional 23 kg. If this keeps going on like this, there will be nothing left of me.. ;)

No, but really, this is really annoying. My weight chart looks terrible!

Let's keep working at it. Best of luck & determination.

It sounds as if there is something wrong with the Fitbit and I would contact them.

If it were Sparkpeople there would be more people with problems.

Good luck sorting it out.

You would think there would be a way to choose kg or lbs. Good luck figuring this one out and makes me rethink getting a fitbit.

new habit ... what else?

Friday, March 08, 2013

Today was the worst day in the last day re/ my "new" sleeping pattern. The only 6 hours sleep a night took their toll. My alarm clock went off at 7.30 am and somehow I ended up waking up at 9.30 am emoticon
I didn't even get breakfast in and was at work at 10.20 ... great, just great! I just hope I can stick to my "new" rhythm over the weekend. This is really harder than I thought..

I appreciate how hard this is for you. You are fighting your own natural rhythm. It's like jet lag without the fun of going overseas. On the weekend it will be very hard to maintain a schedule that is unnatural to you. I sincerely wish you the best of luck over the weekend.

Lucky for me I don't have to be to work so my sleep habits aren't jepordizing my job, but I was an 1 1/2 late going to bed and 1 1/2 hours late getting up today and then I felt so out of it I went back to bed for several hours after being up for a few hours. So my habit change is not going so well either. I know that I have sleep apnea and I am not using my CPAP machine right now so that might be part of the problem.

I have not used the machine since my son drop his puppy off with us and moved across the United States. The puppy (he is not quite 10 months old) is a huge pit bull mix and although he is very loving, he doesn't like things that make noise (vacuum, blender, mixer, hair dryer, etc) so I am afraid he will try to attack the CPAP machine. I guess I should try introducing him to it a little bit at a time before I hook it up to my face.

I wish I had a quick fix for both of us, but I think we are just going to have to find what works best for us. Good Luck! emoticon

Don't forget this weekend we set our clocks forward one hour. (Or maybe you don't have to worry about time change). That always throws me!!!

Good luck! I know I had such a hard time hearing my alarm, I just slept right through it and got in trouble at work too. I had to buy a new alarm and put it out of arm's reach. I would also just continue to snooze it forever, so I started setting my phone alarm that I would "allow" myself to snooze, but the bigger, louder alarm was set at the LATEST I could get up, so I knew when that went off, snoozing is NOT allowed or I will be late! It's working better. Another thing, I got a sleep study done and learned I had sleep apnea, which caused all kinds of bad sleeping habits....have you gotten checked for that by chance?

new habit - what can be improved??

Wednesday, March 06, 2013

everything!!! lol...

@Beltonwalker66: thanks for the concern about my health, that is really sweet, but I don't really have a sleep issue. I can sleep, if I go to bed later and get out of bed later, too. I have a total different rhythm than my surrounding.

I talked to my Dad on the phone 2 days ago while on my way to work. He told me that he already tried in the office, and I replied that would be way too early for me, he should know that (it was 9.30 am). He just chuckled, saying "yes little one, for you it would be the best to work nightshift".

The last night was a tough one. The last nights I only had 6 hours of sleep (according to my FitBit) and it starts to show... this morning I put my alarm clock on snooze 3 times, begging for every minute to stay in bed.
But I will keep with that new rhythm.. it HAS to work out one day. Keep your fingers crossed that I'll make it through the weekend ;)

One of the girls at the office is like this. We work 8 to 5. She likes to work 10 to 6. Guess each of our bodies have their own clock! Glad to hear that you do not have a health issue with your sleep. You will reach your goals, just hang in there! emoticon

I have never been a morning person. I was late to my first class in high school every day I think. After I graduated I worked a 2 to 11 shift and it was wonderful.

Like you I was late to a 9 am job and if I hadn't been such a good employ I would have been fired a long time before I quit, which was to pursue a job closer in line with my degree after 7 1/2 years at the other place.

Right now I am not working because all of the good jobs start at like 7 am. I would rather die than have to get up in the dark to get ready for a 7 am job.

I am hoping for a happy medium and it sounds like you are trying for the same. Good luck in finding that happy medium.

I sleep until I wake up which is normally 4-5 hours. Whether it's staying up late, bedtime for me is 11:00 pm. and getting up to attend an aerobics class, 5:00 a.m. , shower and off to work. What works for some, may not work for others. You'll find what works for you. It will work out one day! emoticon emoticon emoticon

new habit - day by day

Tuesday, March 05, 2013

geeze, I am tired!!
It is 3.30 pm over here and I almost fall asleep. Not really a good idea with a telefon conference coming up in 30 minutes, I have to prepare myself for ;)

I went to bed at 11.30 pm last night, but again not falling asleep til abt. 1 am. Reading is not an option. I cannot turn down the book and end up with staying up til 4 am. I put some meditation routine on my iPad to listen to. Maybe that helps..

I am working on the same thing, trying to change my sleep habits. Mine is not going so well either. I am not working right now so it is even easier for me to stay up and then sleep in. I might have to resort to melatonin to try to get to sleep earlier since nothing else seems to be working. I will keep an eye on your blog and see if you find anything that works. emoticon

Stick with it and maybe you find the answer. For me it was a mouth guard, a $5 double sided from academy that they sell for kick boxing. It stopped my snoring and I sleep better than I have in years. I joke that I'm like a baby with a paci because I have a hard time sleeping with out it.

I suffer from the same issues. Right now I'm just putting out the lights at a specified time, and then lying down and staying there until morning. Seven hours in bed whether I sleep or not. I'm hoping that if I keep it up for 21 days, my mind and body will realize why I'm lying down and will just go to sleep!

Hope you find a solution soon! Have you talked with your doctor about your sleep issues? I recently went through a series of sleep studies and discovered I have Sleep Apnea. Good for you in hanging in there and trying different ways to get a good night sleep!
