Today starts my first day of healthy eating. I have challenged myself to eating healthy (abstinent eating) for the next 50 days.

Time for a change

Obviously what I am doing is not working, it's time for a change. I am going to take the next few days to find out what I do want, find out what my motivation is, and work towards my goal.

I have done it in the past and I know I can do it once again. This pictures taken between 08 and 09 shows that I can do it. I just need to believe.

    emoticonWow Barbara, a picture is worth a 1,000 words, eh? yes, you did do it! I so understand relapse (regained 30 lbs the winter) & discouragement. Sometimes I think it's harder to get a downward spiral & weight gain stopped than it is to stay on a roll... although I never managed that more than a few weeks, 12 at the longest b4 I met sparkpeople and am working on the lifestyle approach. I wish I could say what the magic potion is to stopping & reversing back to an upward spiral, but it is possible... some combination of what worked for you before. I hear the desire & determination in your voice, and believe in you. Look forward to celebrating your successes that lie ahead.... as my friend PandaJane sez... don't quit, recommit! (hugs)

    a few ideas for you.

Go and buy the $12.oo book "Ultra Metabolism" by Dr. Mark Hyman. This book will most definitely give you pause... it will have you realizing without a doubt what you are doing wrong and teach you.... it is well written and has little 10 question quizzes for you at each chapter... NO LIE.... you should buy this book, for yourself and write directly in the book... underline, highlight... LEARN! then re-read it in a month or two.

Track your food... start with that... who cares what you are eating... track it so you can see what you are eating... if you want to make it public do it! (do it even if you don't want to... I will volunteer to take a peek at it every day if you would like an accountability partner)

We are doing this because we need to...

You really don't need a couple of days to figure out what to do... just do that to start...

Our metabolisms are screwed up because we did not know how to eat.... learn from this book.

Also look up the DASH diet.... this has the same principles... it is the hypertension diet which I have based my plan on. I am not saying it is easy but it is what will work...

Without a doubt! Come on now.... let's do this!

Not only is it our national holiday for our country's birthday it is also the beginning of a new month.

My goals for this month are:

- back to healthy eating
- closely watching my starch intake as it has gotten wildly out of hand
- continue with the 100 day book challenge, this has made me realize how many bad habits are back in my life again.
- focus on me.

    Woo hoo on getting back to healthy! I'm doing just fine on my restricted carbs phase. I'll probably stay on it through Monday that's 7 days and is what is recommended if you want to lose 40 lbs or more. It's also recommended for those of us who have yo yo dieted forever.

I like this philosophy because the book "The Dukan Diet" explains so well the history and the biology of weight loss. It tells us that the body actually remembers it's highest set point and every time we lose it will always try to reset to that highest point.

That's why it's so important to be vigilant long after the actual weight loss. I'll probably have to stay super focused for the next 200 days after I lose to my goal of 135-140.

I never knew this...duh...you still CAN teach on old dog new tricks! Well...a semi-MATURE dog...old is NOT in my vocabulary! emoticon emoticon emoticon

" There's no next time. It's either now or never "


Yesterday I posted that I was going to eat "clean" this week. Guess many were confused as to what I meant, so here's a list of what I call "clean" and a list of not clean foods. This is what my weight guru calls 'clean"

Fruits and veggies, fresh and frozen, (canned fruit packed in their juices, no sugar added)
Chicken, fish, eggs (1 yolk 3 whites)
Low Fat Dairy
Grains - multi grains, brown rice, pastas, cereal, oatmeal
Beans, lentils, nuts, etc.

No white foods, ie breads, rice, pastas
No sugar
No processed foods
No canned foods (unless it says low sodium)

I am also limited to one starch meal a day, either breakfast or lunch.

Remember this is my plan, designed for me. But like all plans it only works if you work it.

    Sounds like a great plan, Barbara. Last summer I did basically the same thing and lost over 20 lbs. I went to the Farmer's Market every weekend to get my fresh fruits and veggies. I'm sure you will do great.

    Jo, if you look in my list under grains, I have cereal.

It's not considered processed in my plan, unless it's loaded down with sugar. I always look at fibre content when I pick my cereals. I love bran flakes, or fibre one, and also add bran buds to my cereals.
