Motivation

Friday, February 25, 2011

"Motivation is a fire from within. If someone else tries to light that fire under you, chances are it will burn very briefly"

What motivates you? Is there something that gets the fire sparked within you?

Some days I feel like I've been doing this forever, and the spark is gone. And other days that spark ignites and I'm on fire again. What I need is something to keep that fire constantly burning.

    C. S. Lewis had his devil Screwtape put it very well--he said that people manage to forget they live like pendulums, swinging from one extreme to another; and, that if they wait with patience and keep on doing what they know they need to do, the pendulum swings back. But we tend to believe each swing is "it," falling in love is forever, falling out of love is forever. Motivations just aren't steady. (I'm paraphrasing badly, but that's the gist).

Good blog,Barb.

I think it happens to all of us....
I think motivation is over rated.....I think you have to plan your healthy life style and stick with it..kind of like marriage......when all that giddy happiness is gone and and you finally see the real person you married, you still love them in spite of the rough spots.......just keep going ...
find ways to reward your healthy choices...find what makes you happy

Guilt ???

Thursday, February 24, 2011

Here's a link to a great article by Coach Dean on Guilt.

www.sparkpeople.com/resource/wellnes
s_articles.asp?id=692

Just wondering if you are like this? I know I am guilty of not treating myself the same way I would someone else. I am guilty of beating up on myself when I fall off the wagon. And then it becomes a vicious cycle of emotional eating. I've done this all my life, thought I had most of this conquered but I know that I've gone back to my old ways and habits and am working very hard at changing all of this.

I understand about your guilt Barbararose. I experience some of the same problems with my food and exercise plan as well. It was a viscous cycle with me until I found myself down in the gutter with no other place to go. I became comfortable there and stayed there for a long time, although I was depressed and heart broken. I finally got the will to pull myself up with the help of several friends.
Blessings for a good day. emoticon

The Scale

Wednesday, February 23, 2011

www.sparkpeople.com/resource/motivat
ion_articles.asp?id=1178

Are you a scale watcher? Do you let it dictate how you feel?

It is a hard thing not to jump on the scale. I used to jump on my scale many times through the day, but finally had it moved to the basement to help me stop this habit.

And if it isn't what you were expecting to not let it affect your feelings. I know even though I tell myself I'm not going to get upset, yes I do get upset with the scale. I have to work hard on this.

I do not blame the scale!

I use it as a tool.

Before I get on the scale I know if it is going to be UP or DOWN ==== I know my body . I know if I have been on track and have exercised it is going to reflect my effort.

When I have not been doing well, I just get on them to see how BAD I was.!!

Cute blog. I love the one with the cat and the scale. I have been the same way. I did move my scale at one time and now I am trying to only get on it once a week, but even that is too often sometimes. If the number is good or if the number is bad it does affect my behavior as well as my mood. Maybe once a month would be better for me, but that would be oh so hard! Anyway, thank you for sharing this blog with us!

Tuesday - Emotional Eating

Tuesday, February 22, 2011

www.sparkpeople.com/resource/wellnes
s_articles.asp?id=1396

I am an emotional eater, I need help dealing with my emotions and not keep turning to food to deal with my emotions.

I need to stop grabbing for food and ask myself this question. "Am I really hungry or am I just responding to something else that is happening?"

By keeping track of what I eat maybe I can pinpoint times and situations that cause me to turn to food.

The article lists " stress and anger, sadness and loneliness, and boredom" as emotions that will cause you to turn to foods. I'd like to add "happy, celebrations and funtimes" to my list too.

Are you an emotional eater? Do you turn to food during all kinds of emotions?

You are not alone. There are so many of out there, and I'me one of them. I've even tried putting up a stop sign in the cupboard where the bad food stays -- doesn't work when I'm extremely stressed or overly happy! I too have got to get a handle on it, and it's going to take a lot of deep thinking and patience with myself.

I don't know if you've seen my blog, but I struggled with this very issue on Saturday. So, I blogged about it, and I felt better. And I haven't done it again since (and have had ample opportunity to do so!)

Tracking things on the nutrition page really helps. If I want sweet things, I make sure I'm hungry, and then have something reasonable - the fibre 1 bars have sugar in them, but they also have fibre which is really good for me. So I'll choose that instead of ice cream.

Great entry!

My usual one is boredom. That is why weekends are so hard on me. When I am at work, I don't have the opportunities to eat like I do when at home because I use a computer all day, so my hands are busy. I think on weekends, before eating I need to do just that. Stop, ask why I am eating it, and put it back if its not a legit reason.
