I am an emotional eater, I need help dealing with my emotions and not keep turning to food to deal with my emotions.

I need to stop grabbing for food and ask myself this question. "Am I really hungry or am I just responding to something else that is happening?"

By keeping track of what I eat maybe I can pinpoint times and situations that cause me to turn to food.

The article lists " stress and anger, sadness and loneliness, and boredom" as emotions that will cause you to turn to foods. I'd like to add "happy, celebrations and funtimes" to my list too.

Are you an emotional eater? Do you turn to food during all kinds of emotions?

    Barb- I liked Kitts response write down a list of other things to do when you want to eat ...

I did not think I was an emotional eater till you added to the list .... parties and functions with friends and/ or family..

    I know I used to be this way. I have come a long way in understanding triggers. I can never say I am sure, but by the Grace of God, I am doing much better. emoticon

    You are not alone. There are so many of out there, and I'me one of them. I've even tried putting up a stop sign in the cupboard where the bad food stays -- doesn't work when I'm extremely stressed or overly happy! I too have got to get a handle on it, and it's going to take a lot of deep thinking and patience with myself.

    I don't know if you've seen my blog, but I struggled with this very issue on Saturday. So, I blogged about it, and I felt better. And I haven't done it again since (and have had ample opportunity to do so!)

Tracking things on the nutrition page really helps. If I want sweet things, I make sure I'm hungry, and then have something reasonable - the fibre 1 bars have sugar in them, but they also have fibre which is really good for me. So I'll choose that instead of ice cream.

    Yes, i definitely struggle with emotional eating or boredom eating or eating to avoid a task I do not want to do, etc...

    I am definitely an emotional eater, especially with stress and sadness. I also eat when something great is happening. It's very hard to overcome.

    Yes I am! Boredom plays a part I think too. As I get up off my hinder ender and move more and think positive about my day...it is less of a problem. Have a joy filled day, Karen emoticon

    I just eat to eat-- I don't need a reason.

Someday it is like I just want to poke food in my mouth because I can!

or

The food will go to waste if I don't eat it.

I know how you feel, getting a grip on this is the Key.

    Yes I sure am.. I have read the article several times and do really good at times but then other times...not so good.....
I wish I had the answer, but I don't I struggle each day with food

I did make a list of things I can do instead of eat....I just need to follow it every day

    My usual one is boredom. That is why weekends are so hard on me. When I am at work, I don't have the opportunities to eat like I do when at home because I use a computer all day, so my hands are busy. I think on weekends, before eating I need to do just that. Stop, ask why I am eating it, and put it back if its not a legit reason.

motivation article

For today's pre-challenge in the Biggest Loser Spring Challenge, we were to read an article on motivation.

I chose this article about "Bill Smith" and all that he went through and how he persevered to lose his weight and get healthy.

When I read articles about how someone on Sparks was motivated to get healthy, I know it's possible, not just a dream and I know I can do it too.

Where are the blogs? my dear friend Mary asks.

As most of you know I've been suffering with muscle spasms in my back that have been wearing me down. I haven't been able to get a proper nights sleep and I'm just so tired.

Today my back is starting to feel better, I'm sure the pills the doctor prescribed on Monday are helping.

Update on my mom - she got home from hospital Tuesday afternoon, she is doing much better.
