I have been reading various members Blogs for the past 5 hours. How time flies!! Gleaned a lot of useful information that I will incorporate in my weight goals. One member Stevo came up on some information he ran across is the 80%-20% rule-of-thumb. I have seen this rule before but somehow gets lost in memory. The best way I have found to keep a visual is a nutrition and fitness log. Great tools on SparkPeople. I not only use spark but I also keep a written log. I can see in an instant were I have strayed or keeping on track. My show my reports to my doctor to see if my program needs to be massaged to fit my needs based on his test.


Feeling Uncertain

Have a health issue I am trying to deal with. Feel a little nauseous and some dizziness. Interfering with my workout. Lost appetite, which I need more of naturally, but not in this situation. I need to go over my nutrition makeup and see if I can get the problem solved. I will try to get something to eat to see if it helps with the symptoms.

    Kashmir you are right. I think I found the problem. I had done some research soon after my original post and found it in the processing of dried plums and dried apricots. Sulfur is used to help preserve the color of the fruit. I think sulfur is what I had a reaction to. Needless to say I haven't had any dried fruit since and have not had any symptoms return.

    Could have been the preservatives used in the dried fruit too.

    I think I may have discovered some of my illness problems. On two occasions I ate about 1/2 Cup of dried plums and within 10 minutes after eating them I started to get a headache along with dizziness, and esophagus palpitations in my chest. I know it isn't heart palpitations because I was recently checked by my doctor. So no more dried fruit for me...only fresh stuff. Dried fruit I find can be overly indulged. A half cup of dried plums is equal to about 10 plums. If it had been fresh plums I would have ate at most 3.

Fun Diet

This diet so far has been fun especially following my plan on SparkPeople. This website keeps me acutely aware of my food and exercise program constantly. Talked my wife into joining and in turn she talked my daughter into the SparkePeople.

    How fabulous! Congratulations to you for influencing your family to adopt healthy lifestyles of their own and to your wife and daughter for being proactive. A question I'm often asked is how I "made" my daughters embark on weightloss and fitness programs of their own. My answer is always the same, "You can't 'make' anyone do anything. All you can do is to set a good example. The rest may follow..."

    Maybe my diet is to much fun because I stepped on the scale and "0" lbs lost. I need to change something up a bit. I think I need to do more aerobic exercises more often. I think I will try "interval" aerobic training today, and change to a lower calorie intake in the evenings.

The Doctor Saw Me

Went for my follow-up exam with my doctor yesterday. He was impressed with my overall statistics. I have lost 20 lbs since 12/28/09 which has contributed largely to better glucose, blood pressure, and energy levels. My goal is to get off many of the Diabetes Type 2 medications. My improvements in this are are heading in the right direction.

    This week has to be a turn-around for me. I need to put in more exercise time to reach my weekly goal of 3 lbs lost by next Monday...weigh in time.
