A sparkfriend recently had a blog about sparkmembers who have been inactive and have not posted or commented in a long time. I did a few deletes and believe me, I had to look carefully and think about who to remove. Some didn't even add me and so that was easy, others just haven't posted since April of last year. I don't like doing that, but if you don't have the support from them, it just doesn't make sense to keep them. I love seeing good and bad news, but I try to be upbeat for everyone. The sparkfriends I have right now, I am comfortable to say almost anything. I will be reaching an anniversary, my first year here. Goes by fast!

I have done that also. I purge friends when they are inactive.

I have to admit i haven't been very good at reciprocating friend additions. Im just scared i guess...theres a lot of crazy things that happen out there nowadays. Maybe I've just been watching too many crime scene shows, lol. I'll try to pay more attention to additionss now. I guess i can just see who I might be inspiring and keep showing my support huh?

When someone adds me as a friend I always reciprocate. I have had times when I get so much e-mail it may take me a while to find the note that says "Nice Person has added you as a friend." I hope I have found all those notes and responded. It is an honor to be someone’s friend along their journey.

I had a similar experience Funky Chicken. I joined a SparkTeam for beginning runners when I first started on Spark. I couldn't run for years due to my weight. My feet just hurt too badly. I adhered to my nutrition plan and did low-impact work on an elliptical. After losing 40 pounds I could start running again. The local high school track has a springy surface. As I tried to run I wheezed and gasped. I did the C25K program but walked a lot more than the program recommended. I worked hard and got faster. I completed the C25K program. I went on to do advanced training. I got faster. I lost more weight. My first 5K I ran at 29.12. I continued to run and lift weights and lost more weight. I got a lot faster. I did a training run with my brand new Garmin 305. I did a 5K in 26.09!

I wanted to share my success with my teammates. I posted my 26.09 time. I received a storm of criticism! I was told that I was too fast to be on a beginner's running team and I should leave! I got to tell you that hurt. I was called a liar and a cheat. I left the team and was off Spark for a couple of months.

I pick my friend very carefully. Last running season I took 4th place on a grueling mountain course. I got hearty congratulations from my friends. II felt like a million dollars.

Thanks for being a friend.

Bruce

It's surprisingly hard to hit that button, isn't it? I'm glad we're both here & I'm looking forward to your sparkversary blog!

Ha!!! I love it. You are so right. It is time to let go of your "virtual friends" who have not been active for a while. Thanks for the blog.

Enjoy your weekend.

You have a good point. There are a few teams I joined when I first signed up because they were up my alley so to speak. But due to differences in personalities.....you can't get along with everyone....I just bowed out gracefully. And now that you mention it, there are a few that I should probably remove. But how know which to remove?
I have quite a few that give me support from time to time. Not ALL the time, but they to pay attention and know when to jump in with their support. I can only think of ONE person off the top of my head that definitely should not be in my list of friends...
But it is the time for a good Spring cleaning isn't it?

Ate too much, bad girl! felt a bit woozy.

Thursday, March 17, 2011

I knew I was in trouble when I took in my daughter's corned beef sandwich that she didn't like and I hated it going to waste. I know that was such a "mommy" thing to do. About a half hour ago, I just got settled in and the top of my head started feeling numb and then I got dizzy. It's a good thing I was sitting. I don't know if it's fatigue or eating too much salt. I gotta get back to my workout tomorrow. I know that I said that I rather go on the trail but I am on my 3rd day of my 5k and the only way I can track my timing and distance is the treadmill. When my husband took his garmin to the trail a week ago, he discovered that the markers were off. I don't like to be cheated or feel like cheating if it's not exact. I haven't weighed myself in almost two weeks because I had planned to weigh myself at the end of the month now instead of going on every week. I am just hoping that I didn't gain at all after this.

Yes that is so true...I was so skinny when I was a little girl and they always told me to finish my food cause I should feel lucky that we have food because other people were starving.. I remember when I stayed at my Uncle's house and I had a chicken leg and I gave it to the girl next door cause she told me she was hungry. I got reprimanded for giving away good food. So as a mom I always felt guilty throwing away food if my kids didn't finish it, I use to eat it and then I realized that I was just hurting myself in the long run and what I was doing is going to cost us more in the long run if I'm not healthy. Although I totally understand cause if it is something I like, it is so difficult to not give in. I probably have more will power now but trust me it is not 100 percent...more like 70 percent. So the key now for me is to serve them smaller portions and allow them to finish it and then if they want more then I give them more with the thought that there are no leftovers. BTW I have six kids..although one already has her own house and the second one is in college, when I cook it is a lot!! I just keep exercising and I've accomplished the goal of not skipping a work out and drinking my water. So my goal now is to be good with my eating but it is a daily struggle.......
I hope you feel better soon and get your work out in!! emoticon

I know what you mean about the mommy thing. I do that too sometimes but I think it's part of being filipino no? We don't like the idea of wasting anything. I remember when I was young, everyone would tell me to clean my plate because it's sayang or they would get mad at me. Now, I too have that bad habit of cleaning mine and my family's plate but lately I've been trying to change that about myself because it's making me look like a garbage disposal, lol! Soon...I'll be able to just ignore the food that's left on everyone's plate when they're full...I hope. Have a good workout tomorrow and hopefully you'll feel better.

I understand the struggle between wanting to trail run & wanting accuracy for your training runs. Most of the time the trail wins out for me... but I ran on the road today so I could better measure distance/speed. Hopefully your dizziness/numbness is nothing serious.

update

Wednesday, March 16, 2011

Sunday was date night, Monday was a yucky day and yesterday should have been my going back to exercise day but didn't. Today, I finally got out on the trail. It was such a lovely day, I just couldn't stay home and do nothing. I usually go to the gym, but I wanted to try to do my 5k program on solid ground. The treadmill is ok, but nothing feels better than your feet hitting some dirt and pine needles. I did ok, I noticed how much farther I can jog now than five months ago. St. Patrick's Day is tomorrow and I got corned beef and cabbage to stick in the crock pot. The house smells great once it starts to simmer for a few hours. Even though I have not one drop of Irish in me, I gotta have some corned beef. Tonight, I watched our high school winter guard and it wasn't what I was expecting. They were great with the flags, but I guess I like watching the marching band more. It's not easy to enjoy it though when I developed major sinus pain. emoticon

I'm a huge fan of trail running & there are so many advantages:
- less overuse injuries because your feet don't land the same way each time
- more variable workout with the changing terrain
- more interesting views
- fresh air & connecting with nature
- wild animal sightings (my favourites!)
Watch out, a few runs outside & you might be hooked!

Date night and clothing decisions

Sunday, March 13, 2011

So, two nights ago, I asked my darling hubby if we can have a date night, but it had to be informal he says. I was hoping we can make up for our formal Valentine date we didn't do yet. I agreed to it and of course all I could think of was what to wear. Last night, after taking my #2 son to get a haircut that is so needed, he is starting a new first job, I went to Fashion Bug to find a blouse to wear for tonight. I almost ended up with a blouse that had silver lines vertically, looked nice, but not really a date night material. After being there for almost half hour, and was reminded that it's almost 8 and we haven't had dinner, I stopped looking and by the last seconds, found one. It was half price and so I got it for 7.45. Well, last night, I was getting my outfit together and found my leggings to wear with it. The weird thing is that while looking for the leggings, I found more blouses that I forgot I even have. So, we can have more date nights and I have others to wear. Now, I just need darling hubby to get new shirts too. emoticon emoticon While dear hubby is going out for his run, I will be playing dress up and get ready. Maybe while we are out, I can get a picture of us. We haven't had one taken since our Vegas break.

Congrats on your good find for 7.45! Glad to hear you had a good time. If your hubby needs shirts , K'marts has a big sale going on . A Man Friend of mine found 3 dress shirts today for only 3.99 each! Now that is a sale! Polly

I recently had the same experience. I went to hang a top I bought for my sister's party and found one hanging with the tags still on it. Nice surprise.

Sorry, no pictures at all, but hubby said that we will come back again. We had a great time playing games, felt like a kid again. Since he is in the Army, he found a shooting game to play with. I had no idea he is that good with a rifle. He shot everyone and didn't miss one bad guy. I'm impressed. On our way home, I had told him that the blouse I wore, I already worn twice. Once to lunch with my friends and then last night. So, I told him I probably won't wear it for a long time again. He asked me what was the rule for wearing the same outfit twice. That became a topic for at least 5 minutes. Of course men don't get it. Another date night in a couple of weeks, sometime next month. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

I *LOVE* when that happens! I have to keep reminding myself to "shop" my own closet once in awhile. Sometimes you end up buying doubles or triples of the same shirt or pants! Have a blast with the hubby!

Oh well, I tried

Friday, March 11, 2011

Today I went to the gym with every intention of doing my second day of my 5k and well, I'm not happy. emoticon I shouldn't make any reason for my lack luster workout, but TOM came along with me. emoticon So for the first two intervals, I did fine, but when I got to the third through last interval, I was getting sluggy. I didn't give up, but my speed decreased a bit. I finished at 1.6 miles in 30 minutes. Kinda weird, my timing somehow is faster than yesterday. Yesterday was at 1.8 miles. I don't know if I can go tomorrow to the gym, my son is marching at the St. Patrick's Day parade. emoticon

TOM always makes me feel sluggish in my workouts. Good job pushing through that feeling and getting it in anyhow.

For the C25K - are you taking a day break in between runs? The C25K is designed to be done 3x/wk. The body needs that day of rest in between to build muscle - though it's fine to do a different cardio activity on your off days.
