Happiness and sadness don't happen to us--they come from within.

Saturday, April 05, 2008

Suffering is the tuition one pays for a character degree.

- Richard M. Rayner, M.D., SparkPeople member

What you really learn from hardships

"Perhaps you think this isn't very ‘positive' sounding, but I find it helps people (patients and friends) put hardship, which is inevitable, to good use," says Richard. "People can use their suffering either to gain character or become bitter. The ones who choose bitterness live a long, slow death. The ones who choose character truly live." Richard is right on the money. Happiness and sadness don't happen to us--they come from within. The story of your life will be written with or without your help. The next chapter is happening while you read this. Will you wait to see what it says later, or will you help write it?

We have the power within us to do anything. We just all too often, choose not to use it. Making a conscious choice to succeed will make it happen.

Some wise words there. It took me a long, long time to figure out I was as happy as I made up my mind to be and that I was the only one who could make myself happy. People that become bitter are only hurting themselves.

You Can Do It!

Friday, April 04, 2008

The biggest obstacle standing between you and anything you want is your lack of belief that you can have it. Once you truly believe it is possible, once you can see yourself doing it or being it or having it, the rest is just details. With belief, plus the commitment to follow through and do whatever it takes, anything can be yours.
What is it that your truly want to do? You can do it. Realize that you are as capable as any person. See yourself doing it. Touch it. Hear it. Taste it. Walk insid of it. Drive around in it. Believe in it and believe that it is yours.

Everything you need to get there is available to you, when you believe and when you commit to getting there. Know that you can do it. Nothing can hold you back once you have belief and commitment. You will find a way.

you can do it.

Yesterday was cardio 55 minutes of spinning class. Today was the same, no workout because it was leg day and my knee was too sore from back to back days of umpiring...I'll see how it is tomorrow, I may go and do it in the morning if it feels better.

Expressing everyday gratitude

How often do you remember the people that have made little things possible for you? It's easy to take our privileges for granted. Today, be more aware of your surroundings--everything from your shirt, house, food, and car--and who has made them possible for you. Who has made it possible for you to experience such wonderful things? One way to let someone know that you truly appreciate their efforts is to send them a quick note or return the kindness in your own way.

I must say that every day my DH makes me feel like the luckiest person alive! (Ironically, he's the one who grows the fruit too!)I know I never tell him enough, and I can't possibly return all the many gifts he gives me almost daily. But, I can honestly say, that I love him more today than I did 32 years ago when we got married(I also appreciate him way more too!). Two weeks from tomorrow will be our 32nd anniversary and I can't believe how much closer we are now, than ever before. Of course, we are blessed to have such a wonderful family as well, but being married to your best friend is the best part of all!

So happy that USA Today is going to do a story about your accomplishments; you've worked hard at pursuing your goal! And, you've encouraged others to do it too! But, I have to disagree with your statement on my Spark Page (There is nothing special or unique about me.), there by all means is something special and unique about you!

You're so right, this article is going to be good for spreading the spark! Thank you for taking the time to share with all of us.

Gongrats! That is fantastic! I am going to buy that magazine just to get your story! Ha! Ha! I love it. You are an inspiration to the rest of us and especially me. I don't think I will ever be quite like you in the way that you look so healthy and fit now....WOW! But I certainly am going to strive to be a healthier and fitter me.
