Lazy Days of Summer.....

Thursday, June 23, 2011

Good Thursday Sparkfam! Its rainy & much cooler day here in Chicago. I pushed myself & hubby out of the bed with a big force. I did 30mins of strength training & then like a vacuum came & sucked the air of me, I sat there dazed & confused? What do I do next? I wanna finish my cardio portion of my workout but man I could really go for another 30mins of laying around.

Are the lazy days of summer really here? Does the summer time make you lazier? I used to love to workout in the summer but for some reason this summer, I am dragging my heels. I need to find some ways to get my energy amped up again. Any suggestions other than coffee? lol

Tonight going to a neighborhood smokeout to show support for our community & the police officers patrolling the area. They asked that we bring a folding chair & our appetite so food is available as well as meeting other neighbors. Its a cookout but a opportunity to bring people out of their homes safely in areas where crime is taking over. Chicago can be rough at times but in order to get our city to work for us we have to do work with them as well.

God bless & enjoy everyday!

The community cookout sounds like a great idea! emoticon
.....Are there any areas of volunteer work at your church? I get more involved in the mission outreach during the summer days.....definitely keeps me from being lazy....Lol!

I feel the same way Dee! I was on the go and full of energy when the weather was cooler, but now that it's so humid I tend to be a bit more lazy and not feel like working out. It's supposed to get a little cooler so I am looking forward to that. Hope you had a great time at the neighborhood picnic! sounds like fun! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

You know what--I would suggest starting with cardio, then doing strength training while your muscles are still warmed up. Then really good stretches afterward. Generally I find exercise invigorates me for the day & helps keep my energy UP. But if your home is hot in summer weather, you would feel more sluggish. It definitely may have to do with the weather.

Hope you can perk up as the day goes on! Make sure not to overdo it on simple carbs (sugary foods & potatoes & such). Get some good protein in ya!

So glad to hear about the smokeout tonight. Lay claim to your neighborhood! Folks from my church sometimes do prayer walks in ours.

Love the pic - that's how I feel some days! The coffee addict that I am, not sure what to suggest for non-caffeine energy boosts. I know that I feel really sluggish when I'm dehydrated - are you drinking enough water? Maybe start with a glass or two in the morning and see if it helps.

Enjoy the smokeout!

Just Curious. . . .

Good Monday Sparkfam! What a wonderful Monday morning, it rained earlier & we didn't the humidity I thought we would. Tomorrow is another day. So I didn't do much over my week I donated a few hours to my job. I don't mind cause they always give us perks, like every other Friday off in the summer with pay. So how can I come in with anything but a smile on my face. lol

Well, yesterday I made a huge breakfast & I bought him a nice funny card, he loves those & a bottle of amaretto. The kids got him a nice eddy bauer shirt & a grilling set from eddy bauer. Well, he wanted to know if there was going to be more? Now, I don't want to sound like these days have to be totally out of control but have they? Just curious here in Chicago. If my kids bought me something, I would give them the extra monies if they needed. I keep my gifts under $40 cause I just like them fussing over me. They do an excellent job. In these times I can't expect them to go over that amount & still be able to make it through the week. So I wanted to put it to the most brilliant minds around my Sparkfamily! lol

Today, I walked some, will do kick boxing & legs & glutes tonight as I watch my tv programs. What about you? Are you being health or working towards it. Did well with my food today raisin bran 1%milk, banana, sm slice of pizza & a huge salad. Learning to love the lettuce without much dressing. lol Having grilled chicken & corn on the cobb for dinner with chocolate milk & orange juice.

God bless Sparkfam!!

Off & running!

    Happy Tuesday Dee!
Glad you had a great weekend. I tell my son just by me a card. He likes to take me out to eat & that's not what I normally want to do. Give me the money. lol But I'm simple & I love being the giver. But I do fuss at both of my children who can't go to the Dollar store & buy me a .50 cent card or my dtr is an artist...make me one. lol I'm serious though. I always gave cards to my Mother no matter what. But I had a good Monday and worked out with all I planned. I start tracking it so I have to do it because I don't like having to take it off. You are doing great. I'm proud of you. Thanks for your encouragement!

Your day sounded great. But it will be humid today in Chicago. I was out at 5 am with the pooch and it was already humid out there. Family gave me a gift certificate for Barnes & Noble. More books to read on my Pandigital Reader they got me for Christmas last year. HAve a Great Tuesday. emoticon

That's funny because I spent some time today with a friend who is a dad with grown children and he was very ungrateful for his gifts as well. His daughter got him a 30 cake, which is his favorite, and he wouldn't eat it! Something going around in the air?

I think people need to be more grateful for what they have - and that it is more about the thought than material things and spending time with family. I think what everyone got him was wonderful.

Yes today I am being healthy - exercised, bought healthy food, eating healthy food. Have fun exercising watching your shows!

Is this "he" your husband, boyfriend, or dad? Either way, I would be a little upset if he asked for more after receiving those nice presents & that generous breakfast. I think limiting spending on family gifts is just necessary for financial health. My two cents!

It IS a beautiful day in Chicago! You are eating right & taking good care of yourself. emoticon

Wow, how fun that their clothes completely match! Your son looks WAY handsome, & his date really is pretty. I agree with you about the highly sexualized ways of dressing up that are encouraged for young people, especially girls--the message is not really healthy. But these two are very cool, & it had to be a night to remember! Thanks for posting the pics!

Lately it has finally felt like SPRING around here! Apparently it will get really hot again soon. Take care of yourself, my friend!

Prom 2011....

Saturday, June 11, 2011

Good Day Sparkfam! Its early here in Chicago & still overcast from the weather yesterday. My oldest son went on prom last night & it was cloudy & light misting. He wore a white suit with a blue & silver accents. I don't know if I could use such language with a man but hey since he is my son & its my blog Ima do how I do. lol He was so handsome & he wanted to borrow our benz but it was kinda uncomfortable & no air. I don't know about you but when I am dressed up I tend to get a little warm. So we had 2 options, ask our cousin who owns a cadillac CTS to borrow hers or ask a good friend to borrow his camaro. Now my son who is a car enthusiast LOVES the camaro. But I was apprehensive about asking to borrow it? So I told him lets just use the benz & that way we are responsible on our part. Well I did ask the friend & we got the camaro. The camaro was midnight blue with a drop top. I drove it home & I could not believe all the attention & drama I was getting. I felt like I was a young girl with many admirers again. lol So we drove it home & I parked it out front. He wasn't home but when he got back & saw the car you'd think he'd won the lottery!! He jumped around & hooped & hollered like we bought it for him? lol

So he got dressed & it took him an hour & a half. Mind you he had already taken a show, took a run downtown to find his prom location & pick the wings. I'll get to that later. . . . Well, I believe it doing it big for them cause part of it is for me. I love to do big directions & special little things for my loved ones. Some times even for unsuspecting strangers. So I got a few helium balloons & signs & flowers & cup cakes & more balloons. I got plastic cups & table clothes & little plastic wine glasses (I know not environmental sound) & macaroni & potato salad. I had my son order wings & then go pick them up. My family, friends & neighbors all came out to see him & he looks suave & debonair. lol He took the top down & went to pick her up & bring her back for more photos. Well we laughed talked & enjoyed each others company young & old. He came back & she was very pretty but as a parent I would not have co-signed on that dress. I mean it was blue with silver glitter thingys, she had 3 little diamonds cut in the front, it was a halt dress, came over her thighs & had a checkered blue & silver train. I guess this is all the rage in promdom now but I believe it the princess theory. They have another night to dress flashy I think it should be about sophistication & cinderella dresses. That's just me but I was censored & barred after the first dress incident. lol I got graduations for both my sons on Monday so the partying will never end. I will load photos another day but I am tired for now.

Today, once I am rested, I got walking to do, yoga with weights & cardio step aerobics. What are you guys up to today?

God bless & 2 down & 1 more child to go. . . .UGH!!!

You did it up right! It must have been SUCH fun to see the look on your son's face when he saw that Camaro. Way to make memories!

My day has been quiet & tedious here at home--I have mostly been assembling documents & numbers as part of my divorce process, ugh. So it's fun to picture you in a VERY different space.

Now that's what I call a good friend...I'm afraid with a car like that I'd be a bit possessive! Can't wait to see the pic's. My DIL's brother went to prom and asked his sister to drive them in her Caddie...she did, of course. The girl had a Spanish theme goin' on with black and red and HIGHHHHHH stilettos. My girlfriend and I didn't get asked to the prom and my dad took us out to dinner that night. I think he felt worse than we did!

congrats girl we both are celebrating. My son did not do the prom scene....he is different like and his father was in high school Low key. Not dating yet either. He is a late bloomer. He has plenty of time for that. He will be graduating with honors. We gonna hoop and holler and yell of course!!! He has worked so hard and steady! God is good. We celebrated by giving him 50.00 and took the family out to eat. Also our younger sons birth is Sunday ceremony day. So we celebrated his time too yesterday. The store he loves to go in gave him a small personal party with balloons etc. He was on cloud nine.
