There's A Rumbling. . . .

Sunday, November 28, 2010

in my tummy. Please excuse me Sparkfam! Thanksgiving leftovers still in the frig. I am actually not bothered by them at all today but Friday, I sat in the kitchen all day. lol So my tummy is hungry but I want to make a decide what I will eat today before I open it up. Well turkey breast would be the best choice, the greens, a couple of forks of stuffing & a slither of sweet potato pie. So I wish I has some soup cause I am so lazy I don't even want to chew. Today I had a wonderful time in church still chewing on the word. It was meaty, the pastor spoke on being victorious during times of fear, doubt, shame & indecision. If we speak the word it gives life & we can WIN!! WOOHOO!!

So what are you guys chewing on tonight?

God bless Sparkfam!!!

I haven't decided what to chew on today. Is that a bad thing? LOL I haven't been planning out my meals lately....argghhhh all I think about lately is how I can make the workday go more smoothly. But i guess it would go a bit easier if I put good things in my body and let it oxygenate through walking/jumping/dancing!!! emoticon

Mind Over Matter. . .

Friday, November 26, 2010

So Good Day Sparkfam! Its a sunny but brisk day here in Chicago & no Black Friday for the kid, I stayed in & cooked a decent size breakfast. Now its back to reality after having to cook p a storm for the last 3days but I actually didn't feel rushed like I normally do. That's why I started early like my mom used to do. She baked cakes & pies all weekend. Then do stuffing, yamilo, greens & potato salad. I would prepared the ham Wednesday night & the turkey would bake Thursday morning. So I have been cookin since Tuesday baking pies, stuffing & then did greens & more yams on Wednesday. I baked the ham, chicken thighs & made the macaroni & cheese Thursday morning while hubby deep fried the turkey. I wanted to eat around 3pm but I ended up making pancakes & bacon for breakfast. We were starving but I wanted to wait until dinner time but no dice. So we ate at 5pm. Then we laid around & then around 7pm got ready to go to my daughter. We got in my car first but it was sounding so bad we turned around & drove my hubby's car. We almost didn't go but I know she was feeling melancholy today & wanted to cheer her up. So she was so happy to have us she made plates for us. UGH!! I had a good size plate & was feeling really decent by the time I got to her place but how could I disappoint my baby. So I woman up & ate the plate, it was definitely mind over matter. So we left around 11pm when most people were doing their clean up we were still visiting. lol But my boys can eat a ton of food they have a high metabolism not like this old broad. lol I still got a turkey bump going on from stuffing cake & sweet potato pie. I need some Red Vines to get me away from all of this senseless eating. I need some sweets & BAD!!!! S.O.S.

So what do you eat yesterday or today that it was a mind of matter situation?!!

God bless & TGIF!!

There were 9 of us ,including a family friend,
We ate before 5 pm.Our friend helped with the turkey,he put bacon around
the turkey so the turkey would taste moist, not dry.Came out delicious!
We had mashed potatoes and gravy and there was corn on the cob that had to be used up!
I made yams with brown sugar and marshmallows, turns out I was the only one
eating it!My daughter made her green bean casserole!**Yummy**Plus, there was 2 different kinds of stuffing too. There were rolls and pies and ice cream!**We got stuffed!**
And we sat around the table and prayed and also said what we were thankful for.

I did good. I did have bigger portion for lunch but mostly had vegetables on my plate and white meat skinless chicken. It was so hard to eat only one piece of that sweet potato gooey butter cake but oh well. I'm still alive and didn't gain a pound from what I ate. It's good I didn't cook sweet potato pie. I was still in a birthday celebration mode but this is the Season that I love and I really appreciate EVERYTHING that Jesus did for us on that Cross! Thank You Jesus! You are a great mother and I know your food is always the bomb!! So I guess my son has a high metabolism too. Skinny self! lol
Have a great Sunday!!!

Hi Dee... sounds like you had a nice day... my son and I spent it together. I cooked 2 Cornish hens, sweet potatoes/apples & pecans, dressing & string bean casserole (...the recipe on the soup can) & garlic bread (homemade) for dessert we had sugar-free chocolate pudding/whipped cream... I didn't count any calories, I just tried to exercise portion control. Starting my program again this evening w/exercise!

Have a wonderful weekend!... ~ Dee emoticon

Great story, Dee!!! Happy holidays sweetie. How blessed we are. I had a lovely holiday too, having my loved ones over here. A pretty small celebration, only 10 people, lots of help so it worked out great. My niece lives far away; she was able to make it with her kids and new beau.

Dancing . . . .

Wednesday, November 24, 2010

Good Day Sparkpeople!! Its Wednesday Hump Day & its actually time for me to go home. We have an early due to the holiday. WOOHOO!! So I am done with my 3 sweet potato pies, turkey stuffing last night & then this morning, I got up & did my turnip/mustard greens & candied yams. I know its overkill on the sweet potatoe but I have to do both for my sons & other guest. Now I got to run to the store for a few last items bell peppers, 1%milk, cheese for my macaroni cheese. I am doing mac & cheese, ham & baked chicken when I get home.

So I did Gilad this morning & Zumba I am feeling really good. . . I can even go home & workout where normally I was too pooped to pop!! Now I am going to pop!! WOOHOO!! Dr Ian says that its okay to eat destructively on Thanksgiving but just don't continue it. How do you feel about that?

Are you dancing today in thanksgiving & praise for all that God has done for you? Or what you are thankful & grateful for?

God bless & happy pre-Thanksgiving!!

I love cooking! If you would like to share your recipes for greens, and sweet potato pie, that would be awesome.

The cool thing about Thanksgiving is that everything is so traditional. One thing that has become tradition in our family is my broccoli, tomato and cheese dish.

Broccoli, Tomato and Cheese

Cut up fresh broccoli into small florets.
Steam broccoli until barely tender, 3 minutes.
Butter or olive oil a 9 x 12 glass pan.
Lay broccoli florets out in the pan.
Sprinkle a can of drained diced tomatoes over the broccoli.
Dot with butter.
Generously sprinkle shredded mozzarella and shredded cheddar cheese on top.
Mix some bread crumbs with olive oil and salt.
Sprinkle bread crumbs on top.
Bake 30 - 45 minutes until browned on top.

p.s. Gorgeous picture of you!!
p.p.s. I LOVE Zumba!

Enjoy!! I get to leave early, too. Soon, soon I will walk out the door and finish up my shopping for tomorrow's festivities.

I'm torn on Dr. Ian's comment - as long as you are staying healthy most of the time, splurging on one day is not going to be a problem. But...most of us didn't get here by staying healthy most of the time and splurging on just one day.
But I think it's something we must all learn to do. And what better time to start learning a new skill than now?

Happy Thanksgiving!!

Happy Monday . . . .

Happy Monday Sparkfam!! What a wet day its been here in Chicago & now a tornado warning is in effect until around 8pm. I pray that we are spared. Especially since its supposed to get colder tomorrow. . . .

Anyho. . . I would like to send a birthday shout out to Cierpoet "Deb" & pray she has an wonderful birthday week!!! Today, I will do abs & step aerobics & cook something so I am not feel bombarded by Thursday morning. Certain foods I like cooking on Thanksgiving like the baked chicken quarters, ham & macaroni & cheese. I just like that stuff done early morning. This year we will get out & visit family. I will try to be polite & have a soda or something. I rarely eat when I go out for fear of eating too much. I know its offensive but I will try to take a small plate to be polite. Tinsy. . . .lol

This is motto for Thanksgiving cooking, dining & treats. . . Is it in you?!

God bless & enjoy everyday!

What's Eating You?

Saturday, November 20, 2010

Good Day Sparkfam! With the holidays upon us we still need to eat whatever we want in smaller portions. I have practicing this method just to see if it helps me & it does. Well as long as its not red vines & Keebler fudge stripe cookies. I do alright with the rest. I am armed with my sugarless gum & ready to take action. My pledge: I will not live to eat, I will eat to live & in moderation. I say this but I haven't bought my carmel cake yet. UGH!! We have to have a cake & I am not a BIG baker.

So what won't you turn down on Thanksgiving?
Me, ham, stuffing, deep fried turkey, sweet potato pie, dinner rolls & carmel cake. Very small portions as I am the cook. Make sure you guys kiss the cook & bless her/him for their contribution to making this a blessed day!

God bless & keep you all!
