Gettin It Done on Mondays . . .

Monday, August 30, 2010

SPARKFAM!

So I had a pretty decent weekend when it came to food. I actually did not give myself access to Red Vines whatsoever! So I did have 2 twinkies & a coupla pieces of cinnamon roll but I didn't sweat it cause I burned enough calories to enjoy those tasty treats. lol

I will make it!

So even though a few months ago I would've said that's over so let me get over to Target & buy some red vines & swedish fish & donut holes but no! I am so ready to put in work on Monday.

Today I'm walking, doing core work & tae bo & the QF Challenge. I pray you guys are all challenging yourself in small ways. Like not having that treat til after a certain time to exercise control or parking farther from the door just to get in some exercise. Either way, you will feel so much better!

God bless & I'm gettin it done on Monday!

Don't Talk 2 Strangers? 10 Tips for Successful Weight Loss

Saturday, August 28, 2010

Happy Saturday Sparkfam! I had a wonderful Saturday shopping & running errands. I was getting out of my car when the Hostess Truck Driver nodded. I politely smiled & nodded back. I came back out of the store & put my bags in the car & seat belt on & prepared to leave the parking lot when he beckoned to me. I stopped & he asked if I wanted a treat? Well, see what happens when you talk to strangers? They try to give you treats. Well, I don't eat ding dongs or ho hos but I do like hostess twinkies. They are the better choice. I thanked him politely & got back in my car. See not all people that flag you down are trying to take advantage of you or was he? lol

Here are some tips I picked on the web. Everything that Spark has already drilled in us & we are getting it!

10 Strategies for permanent weight loss:

1. Exercise is essential for weight loss

2. Weight loss and weight training

3. Keep a diary for triggers that hinder weight loss - Leave those twinkies alone, huh. .lol

4. Stay focused on being healthy, not on becoming thin

5. Find out why you overeat

6. Weight loss support: join a weight management group

7. Weight loss and portion control

8: Lose weight slowly with small changes

9. Eating slowly can lead to weight loss

10. Weight loss through eating less fat - but do it wisely

Good tips!! A weight management group would be great but participation would be a concern especially if you join a died group I have this week and had to leave emoticonNo wolcomes are anything. Who wants it??? Your weakness is twinkies and red vines mine are chips and the cookies someone else brings in the house.

More important is "DON'T TAKE CANDY FROM STRANGERS!" LOL I really think he took a look at your sparkin' bod and thought he'd distract you. Tell the truth did he ask for your "digits" as my daughter says. SMILE

I love your strategy points my number one that I'm intensely focused on right now is:

PROPER, ADEQUATE AND CONSISTENT EXERCISE!! TOO much and I don't want to exercise the next day -- not enough and well you know.

All of them ring true for me, but the one's that I am really working on now are:

2. Weight loss and weight training

3. Keep a diary for triggers that hinder weight loss

5. Find out why you overeat

7. Weight loss and portion control

9. Eating slowly can lead to weight loss

... Thanks Dee... you are one of the reasons why emoticon...

I Tried This. . . .

Friday, August 27, 2010

Good Friday Sparkfam!

Its a beautiful day here in Chicago. I call it the calm before the storm. It about 80degrees & sunny. This is a perfect summer day to me but I do like slight breezes & yet we have none today in the Windy City. lol

So last Saturday while shopping I picked up a frozen bag dinner of Bertolli's Tuscan Braised Beef with gold potatoes. It also has red & green peppers & onions & the potatoes are plentiful! I made this for my hubby & son on Saturday cause we were being lazy & waited until 8pm to try to decide what to eat? Well I put in a bowl & microwaved it (I know I am such a bad wife & mother) but it was so quick. It was so good I just liked having the gravy & veggies. Let me tell you the family enjoyed it very much. Racking my brain on what to cook last night, I went by Jewel (food store) & picked up 2 bags.

While watching Burn Notice I cooked those babies up & made white rice. I didn't have any brown rice which would have been healthier but you can also add more veggies. Which is a huge thing with me these days to get my vegetables intake up. I do it to my soups as well & it makes the soup a meal than a palette cleanser or broth. When they came home I put rice & then put the Bertollis on top & they thought we were have pepper steak & rice but the beef is soooooo tender. . . .ahhhhhhhhhh

Last night I was supposed to do Cathe's Kick Punch & Crunch but at last someone unplugged the DirectTv cable. So I had to play mom, wife, cook & repair woman too. lol emoticon So I got lazy while watching the boob tube & just sat there. Well I got myself up, watched Joyce for inspiration, meditated on Psalms 57 Be merciful unto me, O God! Now that's some good stuff & meaty! Then put on my workout clothes & pressed play. I didn't want to do it but I knew I had to & after that I did, All Star Workouts Pilates Sculpt with 5lb weights. Thats always a good workout & slow paced & you will feel it. I'm working on the Quick Fire Challenge to do chair squats & later tonight it Legs & Glutes to wrap up a high intense workout week. Tomorrow will be cleaning, grocery shopping & yoga so its a lighter day. emoticon emoticon

God bless & TGIF!!

Drinking Green Tea. . . . .

Thursday, August 26, 2010

The secret of green tea lies in the fact it is rich in catechin polyphenols, particularly epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). EGCG is a powerful anti-oxidant: besides inhibiting the growth of cancer cells, it kills cancer cells without harming healthy tissue. It has also been effective in lowering LDL cholesterol levels, and inhibiting the abnormal formation of blood clots. The latter takes on added importance when you consider that thrombosis (the formation of abnormal blood clots) is the leading cause of heart attacks and stroke.

Links are being made between the effects of drinking green tea and the "French Paradox." For years, researchers were puzzled by the fact that, despite consuming a diet rich in fat, the French have a lower incidence of heart disease than Americans. The answer was found to lie in red wine, which contains resveratrol, a polyphenol that limits the negative effects of smoking and a fatty diet. In a 1997 study, researchers from the University of Kansas determined that EGCG is twice as powerful as resveratrol, which may explain why the rate of heart disease among Japanese men is quite low, even though approximately seventy-five percent are smokers.

Why don't other Chinese teas have similar health-giving properties? Green, oolong, and black teas all come from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant. What sets green tea apart is the way it is processed. Green tea leaves are steamed, which prevents the EGCG compound from being oxidized. By contrast, black and oolong tea leaves are made from fermented leaves, which results in the EGCG being converted into other compounds that are not nearly as effective in preventing and fighting various diseases.

Other Benefits

New evidence is emerging that green tea can even help dieters. In November, 1999, the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition published the results of a study at the University of Geneva in Switzerland. Researchers found that men who were given a combination of caffeine and green tea extract burned more calories than those given only caffeine or a placebo.

Green tea can even help prevent tooth decay! Just as its bacteria-destroying abilities can help prevent food poisoning, it can also kill the bacteria that causes dental plaque. Meanwhile, skin preparations containing green tea - from deodorants to creams - are starting to appear on the market.

Harmful Effects?

To date, the only negative side effect reported from drinking green tea is insomnia due to the fact that it contains caffeine. However, green tea contains less caffeine than coffee: there are approximately thirty to sixty mg. of caffeine in six - eight ounces of tea, compared to over one-hundred mg. in eight ounces of coffee.

Article take from About.com

Now my take on green tea? I think its gross. I am going to have to learn to like because the taste does not outweigh health benefits. So join me in drinking to your health & well being! I have enough for everyone! lol

Today's workout: Walking 30mins, Nonstop Step Patrick G. 60mins, QFC (200 calves raises) & tonight Cathe's Kick Punch Crunch 61mins God willing. I mean, I am still recouping from the step aerobics this morning but I have a 50th birthday party & wanted to look good. Well you know what I mean Sparkfam! Then the next thing is just being healthy on a daily basis.

God bless & Happy Thursday!

Dee

Do you drink green tea or would you be willing to make it part of your daily ritual?

I heated my water up an hour ago so I have to heat it again and put my green tea in it. My sister and I drink this special green tea for Diabetics that she gets from a Chinese lady and it cost over $100. It helps to lower the blood sugar and stabilize it. It also takes away that appetite for sweets. I love Green Tea and I don't even add sweeteners...real or artificial. Thanks Dee. emoticon

Let's Dance. . . .

Wednesday, August 25, 2010

www.youtube.com/watch?v=9WoGBvtN--8

Happy Wednesday Sparkfam! It's a beautiful 76degrees here in Chicago & wonderful weather to work up a sweat! I can hardly remember not eating healthy or working out but it wasn't that long ago. So what do you want for yourself? Eating healthier, schedule workouts & commit to them, or both? What does it take to get there? Well, YOU! I need to say that to myself everyday in order to keep up this stamina that I have right now. I don't want to lose it but I do want to lose the pounds. I have been active on Spark but inactive in my daily life. I need to get out there & reach out to my family. Being overweight has made me alienate myself & keep to myself. My family always has something going on & they want me to come out but I already had the excuses armed & ready to fire. So what I am doing now is possible only through Christ! I do it for myself & my family & my overall health. Who will you do it for?

Today, I watched Joyce Meyer, then I did Cathe Upper Body & Imax 2 on the express. That means, I forwarded past the commercials & kept the pace with Cathe. No rest periods to get water or catch my breath & the sweat was pouring. I felt good & I am even seeing result. I still haven't stepped on the scale since but I press toward the mark: 142lbs. Here I come. . . .

God bless & I pray you guys dance!

Let them praise His Name in the dance. Psalms 149:3

Praise the Lord! You make me want to sweat with Cathe but I don't want to do 30 day Shred but I think I'm going to do it right now since I need to do one more workout. I did some make up today because I went to do my kick boxing and I was too busy. I know what the problem is and I really need to trust God with it. I love your Blogs and hate when I come over this way and you don't have one up yet. emoticon emoticon
