Gauging Success . . . .

Friday, July 31, 2009

I was just wondering how other Sparkpeople in my communities gauge their success with their healthier lifestyle? I have to admit I can't gauge my success by the numbers on the scale although that is how we define ourselves some times. We don't do it on purpose, that's just how our minds work. We see we can fit a size 2-4-6 & feel we have successfully won the weight loss battle only to find out, its just the beginning. So now you have maintain that weight without gaining it all back & more. I believe that is why I stopped weigh myself? I would get so distraught & reach for my favorite carb food red vines or go to Wendy's. Please let me know how you gauge success, please?

Thanks & Blessings! emoticon emoticon

I am basing it on my abilty to climb the 3 flights of stairs to my apt w/o losing my breath, and playing soccer better. Also, eating right, for the first time I am tracking what I eat for healthy reasons, not some fad diet. So pretty much on knowing I am healthy and staying that way.

Though the scale going down and smaller cloths will be great as well I am sure. But my health is most important to me.

Success for me is getting into my jeans and having them feel comfortable. Sure, size is always nice but feeling good about the way I feel is more important to me than a number. I like getting up in the morning a not having my back hurt the way it used to before I started to exercise on a more regular basis. (I'm sure the chiropractor helped a little.) I like knowing that I'm making healthier food decisions that will help me live longer. I like just being happier because I know I'm doing things that are good for me. That is success for me.

Let's see now, I don't really know yet, I have about 20 lbs to loose even though I am happy where I am now. success for me was loosing 70 lbs and knowing when I gain 5-10 lbs I can take it back off and to know that 5-10 lbs will be the most I allow my self to gain. Success to me is to know what to do to loose weight and to DO IT. You can know what to do but not do it. I hit the scale everyday because I do the WII FIT body test and you know what, I have come to terms with it. I only record it and my body measurements once a month. What really works for me is that I have found what makes me happy, and that is being in a healthy, active, mite I say a much smaller body . emoticon So I think I success for me is to look at what I have done, how far I have come. I smile at all my hard work and were it has gotten me and the life lessons I have learned along the way. Success for me is to know that I am a better person for taking this journey and God has so Blessed me. emoticon

I have forsaken the scale (for the time being) and use my clothes and how I feel as a guide. I was pretty attached to the scale and I was afraid I was becoming dependent on it as a barometer for my day.

I get on every now and then and see I've been maintaining without much effort on my part but I need to finish losing now. I'm mentally preparing to discipline myself to only step on the scale once a week...not 2-3 times a day.

I Really LOVE . . .Some times

Tuesday, July 28, 2009

I have to say that I really enjoy my job for the most part. I'm EXTREMELY happy to still be here & working & bringing home health care insurance as well as a pay check. Okay?I I'm not a saint or crazy! Anyway, back to the reason for my blog. Well I don't know if you can tell it or not but I REALLY care a lot about animals. Guess what? So do all of the employees that I work with, now that's amazing! So you can imagine our surprise that in the past 6-7 years that we get all kinds of animals showing up here abandoned or the fall in our window wells. It breaks our hearts. we have found 3 stray cats & found good homes for them. We have had one we had a police officer out here & try to coax this stray dog for 2 hours!! emoticon He was rough looking & looked like he had been hurt. I was thinking of adoption but then Shadow probably wouldn't like that?! About 2 weeks ago we had a (No these are NOT kittens!) Who required us to put food out for him & a ladder so that he could climb out.
So today when I get to work you can imagine our surprise to find 4 trapped in our window well. We fed them & again put out a ladder so that they could climb out & then they were finally free. We are now still looking for them but know we will see them again. Hopefully, not in the office! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon Blessings Dee

I really do love animals cause they have so much love in their hearts for us! I genuinely look at them & see a lonely person who can not speak.

The animals seem to find their way to our office. No joke. We had a family of kittens that showed up & we ended up finding homes for 2 of the kitten. It was freezing cold & we kept trying to coax them inside. They ran from us for about 3 weeks but we love challenges. So we actually kept feeding them. Putting out warm milk & hope they would get before it froze & they did. My co-worker found good homes for both, one with her son. Then in the spring, there was Jack Daniels. A beautiful charcoal gray cat (6-12months old) & we coaxed him inside. I mean, that cat took to me & if I still had mild manner Maxx, I would've adopted Jack cat but the same co-worker took in to the vet & adopted him for herself. She brings him but he hardly remembers me. Oh well at least he has a home.

Oh did I say about the time I left a glue trap with peanut butter on it on my desk? We caught the mousey too! LOL We took outside & what? We, well I only carried him out, but Big D got some pam pan spray & he was released into the semi wild to find his way back in & onto someone else's desk. LOL

Thanks for your response!!

GREAT blog! do you work at an animal rescue or is it just coincidence that a lot of animals show up there?

i LOVE animals and would probably open an animal rescue if i ever won the lottery. i currently have 3 cats adopted from rescue organizations and 1 that i adopted from friends. one day i'd love to have a dog again.

The Big Gulp . . . .

Monday, July 27, 2009

I have been refilling my water bottle since I started drinking water on the regular back in 1998. I mean I drank water but only 1/2 - 1 cup every other day. I just never could stand tap water. I gulp soda & kool Aid since forever but water was not on my priority list of things to do. Now that I am growing in my health consciousness that now when I went to Walmart over the weekend I bought a brand new reusable water bottle. Now this is a kids one the one I bought is a 32oz mean Big Gulp & it helps me really gauge my water drinking. I am so full of it water that is that I am about to blow!
emoticon emoticon emoticon Not literally. Okay?! People mind on the matter at hand. So I am so into this I am researching trying to find the perfect water bottle. I don't care for the ones that you have to sip & the top is accessible. I prefer to have top that I can open, drink, then spin the top back on. Here a few I found:
but I really this puppy is really handy: It has its on BAG!! Is that cool or what? Well one is $18 & the other one is $24. If you know of any others please feel free to hit me up on my Sparkpage with suggestions.

There are way too many choices out there!!! I just re-fill my poland springs 32 oz bottle when working out...otherwise I am seen drinking from a huge plastic "GULP" cup from a convenience store.. for me using a straw forces me to drink more...

now the bad news.... last year my electrolytes were way down because I was drinking too much water!! Go figure! I've been doing this for over 10 years! My sodium & calcium #'s were way outta wack and I was told I was in danger... and to stop drinking water.. one glass a day and 3 G2's or Gatorade's... I went for blood tests every 2 weeks it was awful because I mostly drink water.... needless to say things kind of leveled out after 4 months, and they changed one of medications and I haven't had a test for a few months.. I am back to my 10 cups a day emoticon

Hay, way to go, I have a Klean Kanteen 40 oz. it is stainless steel I take to the gym with me, I brought one for every member of my family not all was 40 oz though. You can ordered them for I keep a 32 oz glass beer mug in the fridge with hinkley water in it and fill it only when I finish the whole thing. this really helps me when at home to see just how much I am drinking. emoticon I was so much like you I did not like water pepsi was my drink of choose and it was not diet pepsi.
