New Habits Day1

I have a really hard time eating just a bite of something I love but that isn't too good for me. Right now I either have to completely avoid it or face going over my calorie limit for the day. I'm not sure how to overcome this habit and any advise would be appreciated.

    I can not have just one bite. I have no clever advice for you. For me, it's slippery slope. I do often remind myself I have had that treat before, take a moment and remember how it tastes. I often talk myself out of something, because I know it won't be just one bite,- I remind myself of the tummy ache I will have after and can pass it by

    I am having trouble there too! I am suppose to be watching the sweets, the bread, the pasta, and anything that will cause My cholesterol to go up more! I am not sure but I think that is all the good foods! I am sure if We work at it We can get it done!! Hang in there!!! ((HUGS))

    I find that if it is a trigger food I have to totally remove it from my environment right now until I am better able to have it around - keep trying until you find out what works for you. Something else I do is plan to have the foods I have an issue with and that way I know it is coming and I can plan the day around it, this way I don't feel so deprived.

    Controlling calorie intake is a hard things to do. I am working progress on this too.

    I try not to have my "trigger" foods in the house - I don't completely cut them out, because if I can't have something suddenly it's all I want and I binge on it the first chance I get. So I have been allowing myself whatever junk food or sweet I crave on the first Friday of the month - whatever I want, no guilt. Then at least I can look forward to it and really enjoy it. Chewing gum and hot herbal tea really do help ward off late-night munchies, which has been my problem I've been working through.

If it's not in the house, you can't eat it! But it doesn't mean you can't ever have it again. All things in moderation. It's hard, I know! emoticon

    I have to do what Turtletalk does, which is to avoid. If I bring chips home, I eat the entire bag in 2 days max. Same for other things I like to eat that aren't good for me. I would suggest not having the temptation in the house and treat yourself once in a while to a full portion instead of a bite here and there so you don't feel like you're being too strict with yourself and binge.

    This is so close to the habit I am trying to work on. With me it is linked to emotion so I am going to work on it that way somehow.

    Woubbie's idea is what I do.....fill up on fats several days in a row. Then, it's a lot easier to say no to that bite here and there. Tough stuff, Michelle. We can do it.....step by step together!

    I am with you on this. There are several things I just have to avoid because I lose all control. Ice cream is my best example. A 1/2 cup serving of ice cream for me just opens the flood gates. I deal with it by not buying ice cream. I can have ice cream if I go to an ice cream parlor and order one scoop, but none is allowed in the house.

    Completely avoid.

Yeah, I know, not what you wanted to hear...

Especially if it's loaded with carbs it's like eating a timebomb. It will raise your blood sugar and insulin levels, and then not long after that your blood sugar will plummet, but the insulin will still be hanging around, and the combination will have you looking for more carbs to fill what is now a physiological need - NOT a psychological one.

Fill up on nourishing foods that have enough fat to satisfy your body chemistry and you'll get through this!

Not sleeping...

Why am I not sleeping at 4 am when I don't have to be at work until 8:30 am? For that matter why have I not been asleep since 2:30am? This is why:

Lately every morning when my husband leaves for work (he has to be at work at 3 am) our cat hops into the middle of my chest and licks me on my nose until I get up.(How un-cat-like is that???!!! I've told her if the other cats see her do they are never going to let her live it down). I've tried the old roll over and cover my head, but then she just finds the top of my head and starts pawing. The only way to stop her is to get up and put her outside the bedroom and close the door. Now the problem with that is I'm the type person that once I leave the bed, I'm up ... even if I'm up and tired. So after tossing and turning trying to get back to sleep I always give up and get up, then what does the cat do?

oh yes, let's not forget how cozy the printer is

and what does she do when I wake her up?

...if looks could kill right?
I do in fact put the cat out at night (either outside the bedroom or sometimes outside the house), but she sneaks in every morning when my husband gets up. I've even wondered if he is conspiring with her, after all he likes me to lay down with him at 6 pm and I'm more motivated to do so when I've been up since 2 am. emoticon
Oh well, I hope everyone has a great day ( need tired emoticon with smile here) I'm need some more coffee.

    Your cat is adorable. I'm sorry you are short on sleep; I have a hard time going back to sleep if I am woke up too so I sympathize with you.

I hope you are enjoying the challenge and feeling good this holiday season. It's great to not to have to worry about losing extra weight in January.

    I have two Himmie brothers - Prince William and Prince Harry. William is like an alarm clock in doing the same thing to me that yours does to you. Good thing that I wake up early anyway. He is party time at any hour and thinks I should be as well. Like you, once I'm awake, that's usually it. There's no going back to sleep.

Well, first you walk around a lot

(because some planes are pretty big)
while you're there you get a few lessons in control



you also learn that some things in life are scarier and tougher than losing weight

you see some fine examples of what being in shape looks like

and finally you see somethings that just fill you with awe and inspiration, which helps you to stay on track

The good, the bad, and the ugly

First the good

I finally fell into the Overweight BMI range instead of the Obese! emoticon And for any of my fellow sparkers who are also Wii Fit users and not quite at their goal, yes it really does tell you THAT'S OVERWEIGHT (just gotta love that annoying little chirpy voice huh?)

Me now,70 pounds down (kinda feel conceited taking pictures of myself emoticon)

Second the bad

I weighed last night on the wii and was still in the obese range which means its just water weight, after all I had just finished walk/jogging my 4.15 miles and hadn't re-hydrated.
emoticon But no worries, I'm sure it won't be long now until I'm really in that range! emoticon

Lastly the ugly

I'M GETTING WRINKLY!! What's up with that I'm only 38 (ok so 39 next month, but I'm not claiming it until it's here emoticon) So what ya think, botox, plastic surgery, or scotch tape behind the ears.....

Second, when I woke up this morning I rolled over and clicked on the tele to check the weather report and what was on but The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly....so I just HAD to read this blog! and btw, LOVE IT! Congrats, I use my wii and can't wait for it to mock me for being overweight rather than obese...bring on that annoying chirpy voice baby!

    Congratulations, that is a big accomplishment! I don't have the Wii but I can't imagine being impressed with hearing that every day. I sent my sister an email that said in the memo line that this was something she would want to buy immediately.. when you opened up the email it was a scale and regardless of where you landed on the scale it told you something fabulous or wonderful, such as you are beautiful, amazing, hot stuff, etc. I loved it, it was 95$ but I think we could learn a lot from that scale. Don't fret if you think your face is getting more character, you're beautiful and one of a kind. Peace and Blessings.

Great photos, you look really sharp. And I don't think the wrinkles are really there unless you create them. Wait until you are 75 and then see wrinkles after losing weight.!!!

    congrats on the weight loss! that's a big woohoo. And I agree with you you'll be in that overweight range for good real soon.

And one of my worries about losing weight was 'gaining' wrinkles (I'm 46). But it's worth it to feel better I think, and well, really we all get wrinkles at some point! And I agree with Shelli - that pic is darn cute and I don't see the wrinkles you do!

    I feel your pain. My husband was playing with his new camera a took a picture of me upclose. I don't normally have my picture taken. Boy was I surprised. Let me know your decision and I may join you! Congrats on the 70 pounds.

    Great job on losing the weight! I think you look fabulous! Now take a "smiling" picture so you're not stressing over the "frown" lines.
My Wii doesn't encourage me either, but my hubby does, and I work hard to beat him. emoticon

SEE ROCK CITY

You've got to go see rock city, anyone in the south probably is familiar with the slogan, made famous by the dozens of barns painted with it miles around Chattanooga.

I'm near Chattanooga on business and I haven't went to Rock City in ages (15 years?), so yesterday when me and my niece got in we headed up the moutain. I had forgotten just how amazing the place was, and how good of a workout you get going through it! There are amazing rock formations
Breathe taking views

Gorgeous waterfalls

and incredible man made structures

and me, sticking to my diet (mostly) and healthy lifestyle and enjoying life

    Wow, I haven't even thought about SEE Rock City in ages. I think I was 10 at the time so about 45 years ago. I always liked the needle eye. I couldn't go thru it right now, but maybe next summer it was be a day trip.

    Rock City! I have seen those signs every year on the way to Florida and back and I've always wondered what it was! We've always been trying to "make good time" so we've never stopped. Maybe this year though - it's just my hubby, the kids, and me - no one following us, waiting for us, or riding with us!
