A bit frustrated

Monday, September 12, 2011

Drove 2.5 hours each way to a mtg at my parents' re assessing my mom for one or two more hours of help each week.

Well, long story short, she is approved for more help, but has refused it as it would mean another person coming into the house. She & my dad are happy with the help they have so far, but no more change.

And that's fine ; I understand that Mom wants a bit of time on her own but from our point of view, we would feel better if there was another pair of eyes on them both. It's because we all live so far away I guess...

Anyway, it's all good. Got some things talked out and ironed out and really, all in all, everything is good. Just tired now, more than anything!

Going to watch an episode or two of Soap (anyone remember that show from 30 years ago?) DH & I are having a lot of laughs watching it on DVD now. In fact, that's just what I need to do to put a positive ending on the day! LOL!!!

Soap was hilarious! I'm laughing just thinking about the show. lol
Sometimes we can start to feel a little helpless despite our efforts to help. But you did what you could do, going to the meeting with your parents. So now it's up to them. It's great that they still live independently. I have seen so many parents dropped at long term care facilities and then forgot about.
Prayers that your mom and dad stay safe and when the time comes for more help , it will happen.

Hugs Shel emoticon

Now go watch some soap and read that book!

I just finished watching the SOAP series. Loved it and thought it still played well 25 yrs later.

I remember SOAP-- I used to laugh too!

I am sorry mother does not want people in but then it burdens everyone else-- I hope she changes her mind! After all if she in entitled she should take it-- she can refuse anyone too so she can pick the right one.

Glad things got ironed out. As for SOAP . . . OMG, yes I remember that! And MARY HARTMAN, MARY HARTMAN! There are no sitcoms like either one of these anymore, sadly. Billy Crystal was so young and such a hoot in SOAP!

On track today...ate well, more cardio than usual, did some strengthening exercises too!
Made double batch of salsa (put another dent in our tomato patch), did some laundry, cleaned my office (yes, I DO have a work surface under all that!), DD came home at suppertime and will go back to univ with us tomorrow (lovely surprise to have her home)!
Finished reading another Janet Evanovich book. I signed 2 out of our local library, and will pick up a third one on Tuesday (ordered in from another library in our county for me to read). I'm SO enjoying this series of books... quite literally, laughing out loud a lot. DH says it's good to hear me laugh so much (LOL!)
Didn't get to farmers' market yesterday, since we still have some veggies to eat up from last weekend. But we did take pizza supper over to DH's mom's last night; 3 of his 4 siblings & their families were there too...nice to see everyone.
Remember to REMEMBER today.
Have a blessed week, everyone.

Looking forward to Friday!

The most challenging part of this week is over... dental checkup/cleaning & since they had time, got one cavity filled. So, I'm all set until next app't.
Looking forward to quiet evening at home and a massage tomorrow morning.

The Usui Reiki course went very well yesterday & I look forward to hearing how my new students are doing!

I made a double batch of Peruvian Quinoa Stew yesterday and that (along with a salad) will make a nice, easy supper for me tonight.

Our daughter is settled into her new home for the next 8 months. She painted her room and it looks wonderful! We have met her 3 housemates (2 of them we already knew and the 3rd is the younger sister of one of the others) and they are all nice gals.

Time to kick up some cardio before supper!
Be well and enjoy the rest of the week, Sparklets!

Nothing New!

Wednesday, August 31, 2011

But that's a good thing! It's nice to just 'be' ! Though the weather is a bit cloudy, the temperature is perfect.
We are at our home away from home until tomorrow afternoon. I was out for a haircut and running errands this morning & met our next door neighbour upon my return. I warned her she might hear me drumming in the backyard sometimes and she was ok with that! It turns out her husband's brother has worked with my husband over the years... ah, this world just keeps getting smaller and smaller!

Had my lunch and now I think it's time I tried to figure out that Wii !
Bright blessings for a wonderful day, everyone!

What a Week

Saturday, August 27, 2011

It has been a 'go with the flow' week for sure. Many routines upset or gone due to the tornado and it's aftermath. Goderich and surrounding communities have rallied to the cause.
Residents & local businesses which are able to operate are helping each other in any way they can. Since I'm not a resident, I'm not able to get into town yet, as the utilities work round the clock to restore hydro, gas to all & to make sure the town is safe for everyone to move from street to street. Have heard from all my friends, all are safe, all have some cleanup to do, some sustained home damage, but none injured (which is the most important thing)!

A few days ago, I took homemade bread & pie to my DH's cousins in Benmiller. They & their house were safe, but the tornado left debris on 125 acres of land. Yesterday 50-60 people walked those acres picking up the debris so their pasture land is now safe for the cattle to graze on again, and the crop fields are safe for machinery to enter. Unfortunately we couldn't help with the cleanup as we were in the Toronto area for a wedding, but we'll be phoning them later this morning incase there is more cleanup to do today. Once the town reopens, I plan to visit the parks and public spaces and do some drum healing onsite (have been sending healing by distance since the tornado hit).

On a plus note, it was GREAT to see our son and my oh my, he looks very handsome in a tux!
We will see him again tomorrow to take him to visit my parents & then, sadly all too soon we'll have to take him to the airport.

Be well everyone, and I pray that Hurricane Irene's progress across North America will very soon lose strength.
