Yay!!!

Thursday, May 26, 2011

The closet shelves are done, the trim work is done and I'm off to paint !!!

By the way, I made a really good soup for lunch from some leftovers! Sauted an onion, then added cooked broccoli, cooked peas and some baby spinach as well as turkey stock & garden cocktail tomato based juice, some cumin, rosemary & garlic powder, simmered, pureed it a bit (I like chunky soup!) and served with toast & cheese and... voila!! Lunch! I posted the recipe if anyone's interested (search for broccoli, pea, spinach). Note that I calculated 4 servings, but after I hit save realized it makes 8 bowls of soup, so that would be 63 calories per bowl!!

Not Prepared for the shock

Tuesday, May 24, 2011

Today has been about getting back on track. I've decided to track the details of my food intake for this week (instead of using the quick tracking method). Also I did my cardio workout (the one I usually do on a daily basis, but haven't done since our trip. So, from a fitness/nutrition standpoint, all is well.

I ran errands in the morning, stopped in home for lunch, then headed to the nearby town to visit my friend in hospital. I was not prepared for how I found her. I am not sure if I mentioned it in April, but Helen went into hospital to have her meds adjusted on March 17th (she has MS). While there, she caught one of those super bugs and when I saw her in mid April, just before our trip, she had lost weight (and she was thin to begin with), but was pretty much over the bug and so I truly felt that today she'd look ok again. Was I wrong. She came down with, not one, but 2 of these bugs last week. She couldn't eat for days and is dreadfully deathlike thin. Her husband was there when I arrived, and he said that she was doing much better today. There have been times when she was delirious and times she didn't even know him over the past week. He told me that it will take a long time to even get her strong enough to move her to a nursing home (she is on the waiting list at 2 homes now). She is only 56.

I donned the gown and gloves and had a visit with her, doing most of the talking as I knew she was too weak to talk. And I cried on the way home, and counted my blessings. Though I want her to regain her strength to enjoy some more time here on earth, I also don't want her to suffer. And so I send her my prayers and healing for 'her best and highest' and trust that grace will lead her in the direction she is best meant to go.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your friend as well as her family. Take care of yourself. Maybe it helps her to see you taking good care of yourself. Just a thought.

Makin' Progress!

Monday, May 23, 2011

After a relaxing time at the cottage we returned home late this morning. After a quick lunch we set about getting things on the main floor back in order. Still some things to do, but it's lookin' goooood! DH has just gone outside to cut lawn, since there is a severe thunderstorm warning up for this evening, and he's away from tomorrow until Friday night. If the lawn isn't cut, it will look like a hay field by next weekend. Right after I finish this entry I'm back at the reorganizing, this time...upstairs! We bought some under the bed containers & some other organizers for DD's room...time to start sorting!

With DH away this week, I am planning to get my food intake back on track again & lose some weight!

Happy May 24th to all the Canadian SparkPeople, and have a super week everyone!

Takin' a Short Break!

Thursday, May 19, 2011

Taking a break from painting! As it turned out, we got the first coat of paint on our daughter's room last night. Did the 2nd coat this morning. Next we gave the tv room and my office/healing room their first coats. And in a little while we'll begin their 2nd coats. Lookin' good!

The only 'fly in the ointment' is that the fellow who's been doing the construction / drywall for us didn't come yesterday, nor has he arrived today. He has to build some new shelves in our daughter's room, and then we can paint them & her closet. Hope he arrives today or tomorrow, for we plan to put things back in the rooms on Saturday! Oh well, if the shelves aren't built, we can pile things on her bed until they are (she won't be home until mid June).

So nice to see some colour on the walls again! After the painting is done, I'm going to soak in a tub with some epsom salts! Ahhhh... I've earned it for sure today!

Be well, everyone!

Painting followed by a good soak - sounds like an excellent reward for hard work!

Painting is hard work! LOL emoticonJust having to move stuff around is a workout. Plus you are doing several rooms.I am tired just reading all of this! You deserve the tub soak! LOL It will be beautiful when you are finished and a new coat of paint always perks things up. Of course one room leads to another and another tho. I am sure you are looking forward to your daughter coming home.

Have fun painting! That is something that I plan to work on this Summer. The porch needs to be painted again and the front room.

Enjoy the tub time!

Topsy Turvy

Wednesday, May 18, 2011

That's the best description of my life these days: Topsy Turvy!

I've spent the biggest chunk of the afternoon catching up our business books on Quickbooks (which I am a newby at using). Needless to say, it's been frustrating. The good news is that I've had no interruptions from phones ringing nor from other people; and I couldn't even think of emotional eating because I would have to walk down 2 flights of stairs (and then back up again after I'd eaten!) I did some EFT tapping and carried on!

The house is still in disarray, but we now have the paint for all 3 rooms and tomorrow we paint like mad to get them done! And either tomorrow or Friday, the construction fellow returns to build shelves in the closet and to finish the tiny bit of trim work that's left to do. Friday we're away (I hope to visit my parents), and Saturday we put things back in the rooms and clean the whole house top to bottom at last. After doing all this, we plan to head to our cottage on Saturday night for some serious R&R!!

I am frustrated with my body... the movement of painting caused my leg to go completely numb, it is only today that it is finally feeling a bit better, but tomorrow's painting will make it worse again. So, very little cardio of late, and only very light & easy cardio at best. Ah well, life should settle down soon, the leg will recuperate and cardio will commence again with passion! This chaotic time shall be over soon!

Bright & peaceful blessings to all of you!!!
