Put Your Hand In The Hand of The Man From Galilee

Friday, March 09, 2012

This morning as I was praying the Lord brought back to my remembrance this old song that was popular back in the early 70's: Put Your Hand in The Hand of The Man From Galilee. The one line that stood out to me was "take a look at yourself and you will look at others differently, by puttin your hand in the hand of the man from Galilee". I pondered that line and realized how differently my perspective is when I focus my attention on Jesus instead of what is going on around me.

As I think about my weight loss journey in light of this I see my body as the temple of the Holy Spirit who lives within me and want to make the best choices possible to attain my goal of a healthier lifestyle to be able to live long and do everything that God has planned for my life. His perspective is so much different from mine. My fleshly choices would be to live for the moment, eat whatever I want to satisfy the cravings of my emotions and enjoy a sedentary lifestyle. As I age the more I find that I want to slow down, but when you slow down it's not long until you come to a stop. But God has a different plan for my life. It is a plan that includes healthy food choices and continuing exercise so that my body functions properly as I age. It's time for me, as a believer, to get back in line with God's good plan for my life.

Today I will focus on being the best that I can be for Him!

Recipe For Success

Thursday, March 08, 2012

Proverbs 23:7 For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.....

The picture of ourselves that we hold in our heart will eventually become a reality. So, what picture do you want to embrace. I choose a picture of success!

Every invention begins with a dream in the heart of the inventor. He sees the finished product and then begins to work on the process by which it is produced. Our vision is what we will work towards. If we see ourselves fat, poor, disgusted and of no value. Guess what? That is what we will become. But if we see ourselves as a healthy, whole, valuable, productive individuals we will work towards that end result. The picture comes first, then the speech and the action that produces the end product follows.

There are three steps to this process: 1) Look inside and get a proper picture of what you want to be; 2) Begin to speak success; 3) Follow through with actions to assure your success.

In order to begin this process find some pictures that portray where you want to be at the finale and post them in strategic areas of your home; i.e. kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, closet door, etc. Next begin to speak out your success. (I am a person of value; healthy, living life to the fullest at my goal weight.) Then plan to succeed by working the plan that corresponds with your dream. Take it one day at a time!

Today is the first day of the rest of your life. Choose to live it productively with your goals in mind. You are a winner; a product of your imagination, living out your dreams. Don't hold back. Grasp the future with determination and you will see the desired results!

I would just love to be perfect, to have no regrets for mistakes made. I dwell on them too much.

I have followed a version of the 3 part plan in retirement and am happy in many ways. Still working on some of those visualizations!

Thanks for a lovely post!

Hope For The Future

Wednesday, March 07, 2012

Jeremiah 31:16,17 Thus says the LORD: "Refrain your voice from weeping, And your eyes from tears; For your work shall be rewarded, says the LORD, And they shall come back from the land of the enemy. There is hope in your future, says the LORD, That your children shall come back to their own border."

No matter what difficulty you may be going through there is always hope in the Lord. Your children may be off doing their own thing, but God says your work in raising them shall be rewarded and they will come back. This same principle can be applied to our lives in our weight loss journeys. If we consistently do what is right in making right food choices, exercising, drinking water and all the things that lead to a healthy lifestyle we can be assured that God will reward the work of our hands. He wants us to be healthy! So many times, we look at things according to the way they are now and expect them to stay that way, but God sees them as seedlings of the future. A little sapling may look like it won't survive the storm, but then it grows tall and strong into a large tree. We cry and fret over what we see in the present when we should be expecting God to honor the work of our hands done in preparation for a good future.

Romans 8:31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? Sometimes we are our own worst enemies. But be assured today that God is working with you in your efforts to gain control over your weight! Do not fear, only trust Him to bring you into victory!

Life Without Restraints?

Tuesday, March 06, 2012

Genesis 2:16,17 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, "Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; "but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die."

I'm learning a lot about myself as I travel through this weight loss journey. For so many years I have prayed that I might live what I considered to be a "normal life" where I didn't have to keep records of food consumption, exercise and all that goes with watching what I eat. I would ask the Lord why I couldn't just eat without having to keep track of all that stuff! I've realized that what I really wanted was a life without restraints where food was concerned. As I thought about this the Lord brought to my remembrance that even in the Garden of Eden before the Fall of man He gave his children restraints where eating was concerned. Why should He change that for me? I see now the need for restraints in my food choices. Some foods are just not good for me. Some foods, when eaten, will bring death to my body if consumed over a long period of time. Some foods do not satisfy my hunger because they are not what my body needs to sustain life.

God has placed restraints in our lives for our good, so we will not be harmed by our own unwise actions. Today I will choose to live a healthy lifestyle; one of good food choices and the exercise that helps my body to be strong. How about you? Will you join me today?

Thank You, Lord, for loving me enough to show me why restraints are necessary. Thank You for giving me the freedom to choose what is right and good for me! Thank You for Your grace to make the right choices and the conviction of Your Spirit when I'm about to chose something that is not good for me. Thank You for going before me and directing my footsteps through this day!

As Lysa Terkeurst says in "Made to Crave": "I have these boundaries in place not for restriction but rather to define the parameters of my freedom." God creates these boundaries as a loving parent does to protect and guide His children.
Thanks for the reminder. Great blog!

Give Me This Mountain!

Monday, March 05, 2012

Joshua 14:12 "Now therefore, give me this mountain of which the LORD spoke in that day; for you heard in that day how the Anakim were there, and that the cities were great and fortified. It may be that the LORD will be with me, and I shall be able to drive them out as the LORD said."

Does your weight seem to loom before you as a mountain, tall and mighty? Caleb excitedly looked at his mountain as the inheritance that God had given him ready to be scaled and conquered. He viewed his God as bigger than any enemy that would come against him and he knew that if his God was for him that he could take the mountain and drive out the enemy. God's word clearly states that our God is for us, not against us. The mountain that seems to be an unattainable obstacle in front of us can be conquered if we will depend on the Lord to lead us to make the right choices and then follow through with the self-discipline of acting on those choices. Do you see yourself as a victor in Christ Jesus? The picture that we hold before our eyes will be the one that we will bow down to. If we see our weight challenges as bigger than our God then food will always reign over us, but if we see our God as bigger than our weight challenge then our God will win and we will be victorious! Are you ready to take your mountain?

Joshua 14:13 Hebron therefore became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite to this day, because he wholly followed the LORD God of Israel.

Awesome blog. God is truely bigger than any mountain.
Praise God, that through Christ, He is daily leveling the mountains and making a highway called, " Holiness."
I am so glad that God has chosen us to be a mirrow reflecting His goodness to a world that needs to see the love and power of God at work in the believer's life.
