Gained 25 pounds, lost 1 pound

Tuesday, March 08, 2011

9:06am

Out of the 45 pounds that I have lost, I've gained 25 of it back. I found that out when we got our new bathroom scale (digital). AAAAAAGGGGGHHHHH!!!!! But I weighed myself this morning and I've lost a pound of that 25 pounds gained. There for a while I was eating things that I shouldn't and not doing too much on the exercising. Sunday I took the dog for 4 walks each 12 minutes each. I was hoping to do my exercises up at cardiac rehab yesterday morning but I woke up with a sore throat. It was a mild one but I didn't want to make it worse when I got done when I walked outside where it was cold. That's because I didn't dress warm when I took the dog for walks. I had a coat on but I had a skirt on while walking her. If it doesn't rain later and we are home all day, I'll take her for some more weight.

I did some minor changes since the weight gain. I have cut down on my sweets. I do very little snacking. When I get hungry, I either grab a stick of gum (I've got Extra Dessert Delights Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream gum) or I knit (trying to finish an afghan that I need to get done before June for a wedding gift). I don't eat too much. A week ago tomorrow night I orded fried chicken with green beans, cottage cheese and cole slaw. Out of those 4 things, I ate all the green beans and cottage cheese (they serve you a quarter of a cup of the sides) and half of the cole slaw. I didn't even touch the fried chicken. That's how full I was. The only time that I touched the chicken was to put it into a to go container to bring it home. Dad did too. I had a wing but dad ate that (even though he ate the one that he got with his order) and put the breast in the container with the two remaining pieces that I had with my order. Hopefully I can give up a few things during Lent that may help with the weight loss even more. I just have to imagine myself on vacation to do that part because I don't eat a whole lot of bread and potatoes when we are on vacation.

I'm hoping that tomorrow we can go up to cardiac rehab and do the treadmills and stationary bikes. I had to decreas my speed on the treadmill from 3.0mph to 2.5mph. I was getting short of breath and my mouth was getting too dry. I would have to drink almost a liter of water before getting off of one time on the treadmill when I usually do twice. I might do a workout DVD if I can't go outside and walk if it is raining (they're calling for rain here in central Illinois). I haven't decided on which one to do just yet. I'll wait and see first before deciding.

emoticonGlad u got a new scale.
It is so easy to REGAIN, especially with the COLD winter we had. I have been fighting it since November and going up and down about five pounds, and getting it off and then up again, so I have struggled, but it has been SO COLD and I want hot chocolate when it is. emoticon Wish they made a NO CAL Hot chocolate. emoticon

I've found with my ups and downs in weight loss, if I dwell on the gains, it makes it so much harder to lose again. So I just kind of forget that it was a gain ... I'm at square one today ... every loss is terrific and a step toward my ultimate goal. So congrats on that pound gone. Keep up the great progress toward your goals. Keep walking the doggy and enjoying that gum instead of a snack.

back to being cold

Tuesday, February 22, 2011

9:29pm

We're back to being cold. I hate it. Just wish that we had the temps that we had last week so I can take the dog for walks again. From Wednesday through Friday, I took the dog for 9 walks. That's 3 a day. She enjoyed herself and so did I. I haven't gotten the chance to do that this week because we are too cold to do it. Plus we have had rain and fog. Hopefully I can do that next week if we get the warm weather.

The only exercising that I have gotten this week was yesterday with 2 treadmills for 30 minutes each and a stationary bike for 25 minutes. Hopefully tomorrow we can do our exercises so I can get some more exercising in. I didn't do much today. Not to where I can enter. We went to where dad worked at in Macomb, IL, to see if we can get together with a friend he use to work with. I'm hoping to do some exercising tomorrow morning before dad gets up in the morning. At least it will be a warm up because I have to do a lot of stopping when on the treadmill the first time just to get something to drink or catch my breath. I am going to see how things go before I continue it. At least it'll be a warm up before I can really do a lot at cardiac rehab.

Had soup tonight for supper. Chicken noodle soup. But added a little bit of water to it and 2 cups uncooked rice. Talk about tasty. I was craving the soup and the rice. So I combined the two. It was good and filling. Now here it is over 2 hours later and I'm so close in going back out and getting a serving of it.. But I'm not. I'm not going to do it. I'm not even going to go out to get a snack since it's late and too close since I had supper. My will power is strong tonight. Dad thought what we had was pretty good. I had 2 cans of the soup and we had half of a can each at least a cup of cooked rice. There is at least 3 servings of what we had left. It tasted so good. Try it. But don't put it in a 2 or 4 quart sauce pan. Put it in a bigger pan. At least a 6 quart. I did but changed my mind.

    Hey There!

Keep up the great work. You're doing wonderful. I know you're trying to get in more physical fitness and that's fantastic. Applaud the days that you commit to it rather than putting yourself down for the days you fall short.

I'm actually having the same mental battle this week. I've been feeling under the weather and haven't worked out in three days. So, I know that tomorrow, I have to get back on track. I'm hoping I feel 100% by then. I've had to really work on not beating myself up this week. But sometimes life happens. On the days you don't get to the gym, just be sure to be extra mindful of what you consume and make it a point to get right back on track as soon as you can.

GREAT JOB on the workout you had. It sounds like you did well over an hour of cardio...that's a lot! I've noticed that if I push myself too hard in one day, I feel a bit run down the next day and my chances of going two consecutive days are a lot less. So, pay attention to your body. Maybe just 45-60 minutes of cardio per day would be better for you so that you are more likely to stick with it 4-6 days per week.

Have a wonderful day. You're doing great!!

We had rice with our dinner tonight and I wanted to keep eating it. I made myself put the leftovers away though.

This week we have been spoiled

Thursday, February 17, 2011

5:59pm

Got spoiled this week with the warm weather. Everyday it kept on getting warmer. A lot warmer than the weatherpeople forcasted. We were supposet to be at least 62 degrees here in central IL, but we got up a lot warmer than that. Here in Avon, IL, it got up to 68 degrees. Tomorrow it's going to get up to 53 degrees and sunny. At least this nice weather gave me the chance to do some exercising outside. Between yesterday and today, I took the dog for 6 - 12 minute walks. 3 walks today and 3 walks today all 12 minutes each.

I was just happy to get out of the house even if it iwas to walk the dog. I haven't done that since we had the snow on the ground. Aft er the first walk with the dog yesterday, I could tell that I was suffering from cabin fever.

Dad is doing great after 5 months and 2 days aft er his total knee replacement on his right knee. Yesterday and today he hasn't had to use his cane outside since there is any snow and ice to worry about. Next month a friend of mine has to go up to Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, to have a total shoulder replacement surgery done on her right shoulder.

9:01pm

Has anyone ate one of their favorite foods and after eating it, it didn't seem to have the same mouth feel as you remembered it? Or does it dry your mouth and throat out? I'm wondering because I brought home 3 sugar cookies for my supper but only could eat only 2. I had a gritty (kind of like sand) feel in my mouth and there was a dryness in the back of my throat and down into the throat. Kind of reminds you of how dry your mouth and throat gets when you haven't drank anything in a long time or if you have been working out and haven't had any water. I even got a spoonful of peanut butter and the same thing happened like it did wit the cookies. It's a good thing that I have a bottle of water nearby. It's a liter bottle size but I havea quarter of it left.

Did everyone eat well at their Super Bowl parties? We were invited to one where my mom was a resident for almost 8 years. Did the team you were going for win? Mine did. I'm a Packers fan anyway. I didn't gain any weight from the party.

I'm stuck at a plateau. I've changed my workouts (added 5 minutes more to each of the treadmills and stationary bikes and added a new workout DVD plus the walks with the dog). I think that I need to change my eating habits again. I'll start tomorrow. No need to change them tonight since it's time to go to bed.

Good luck with the plateau - I think you are on the right track.

I have noticed that some of my less healthy favorite foods aren't so good anymore. Instead of cookies (chocolate chip are my favorite) I would prefer to have fruit (strawberries and chocolate have been a favorite lately). It's probably your body telling you that it doesn't like the cookies anymore and would like something else.

Needs a vacation

Thursday, January 20, 2011

9:57pm

It's too cold. Need a vacation to somewhere warm until the weather warms up here. It's going to get down to -2 F tonight. Our furnace will be working hard tonight.

I tried a few exercises on my ball that I don't think that they have tried on here. If you have an exercise ball it will work with that at your computer desk. Lay your head either on the keyboard tray or the desk and make sure that your ball is far back to where you have a good stretch in your back. Sit on the ball while your head is on the keyboard tray or desk. When you inhale, roll the ball forward. And when you exhale, you roll back until your belly is touching the ball. Keep on doing that until you start feeling that. I just started doing that tonight and it feels great. You can feel it in the abs and in your back. It should be great if you have been on a long trip somewhere where you've been doing a lot of sitting. Plus I sit with one foot under the other knee and rock from side to side to do the sides. It's kind of doing that Ab Circle workout minus the machine. And while in that position that you are doing your sides, do something like the first exercise but you are sitting up right. Let me tell you. I'm feeling it in the core area and it is great. It might be a little sore but it's the good kind of sore. I've been doing a lot of sitting today with running errands for the garage here in town and a few other things.

A week from today would of been my mom's 60th birthday. She passed away on October 14, 2006, at the age of 55 years old. She passed away 16 years to the day that my grandma (my dad's mom) passed away. Just so happens that my cousin's (my dad's youngest brother's oldest daughter) birthday.

Icy day today but wishes that it wasn't

5:49pm

It is really icy out but not too bad on other streets here in town. I'm hoping that the warmer weather gets here sooner than later so I can take the dog for walks because she's been hinting for one all day. The streets that I take her walk on is too icy to walk on and I'm not going to take the chance in breaking something. Dad almost did yesterday when we were going to do our exercises at cardiac rehab. I put my foot out on the ice and put it back into the truck and closed the door. Dad walked so far and decided not to do the exercises too. I'm glad that he decided not to walk all the way to the hospital from the parking lot because the sidewalk right in front of the hospital was icy too. So we went to Target and walked the main aisle since that is a quarter of a mile around. I was going to do laps until I did the amount of minutes that I did on the treadmills but dad's right knee (the one that he had surgery on 3 months and 3 days ago) was getting stiff on him. It didn't really get stiff on him until he was going to bed. I never asked him how it felt this morning when he got up.

I can't believe that a week from today is my little adopted cousin Xavier's 6th birthday. It seems like only yesterday that my cousin Dale and his wife Launa got him as a foster child. They've had him since he was 5 days old. They adopted him a few years ago. He had a cleft palate and lip. They got the lip done not long after they got him but they had to wait until he was a year old to do the roof of his mouth. He is a handfull.

I did 2 workout DVDs yesterday and both walking DVDs. One was 3 miles an the other was 5 miles. I had to do something since I couldn't do my exercises on the treadmill and stationary bikes yesterday. I might and hoping to do some more before tonight but I think that dad is about ready to go uptown to get some supper.

9:38pm

Dad is in bed and I'm still up. I'm not even tired for some odd reason. We have to take a vehicle to another town to get an alignment job done to it in the morning for the garage here in town. I hope that the parking lot where we're going isn't too bad to walk across. If not, I'll wait for the mechanic who will do the alignment to drive the vehicle up to the building and then get up and walk into the building. If it isn't too bad, I'll walk across it. We have to be down there by 9am.

Did anyone see The Biggest Loser tonight where the twins each gained 9 pounds each and Dan got eliminated? I did. It's sad that they both gained that much weight when they worked their a** off in the gym. I can see that big guy on the blue team losing 4 pounds since he wasn't feeling well, but not Dan and Don. I was hoping that they would lose at least 7 or 8 pounds or more this week. I hopethat Don doesn't get voted off next week.

I didn't do my workout DVDs for some odd reason. I'm not going to do them now since it's too late to do them. I'm hoping to do them later on tomorrow if we don't go up to do our exercises at cardiac rehab. Right now I'm rocking back and forth on my exercise ball that I have at the computer. I know that it isn't much but it's something until I can get this blog done. Plus it helps me think of things to write about. And maybe help me get to sleep faster than I have been lately.

A week from this coming Thursday would of been my mom's 60th birthday. I miss her. It's been 4 year, 3 months, and 4 days since she passed away. I wish that she was here right now to see me. I know that she's looking down on me smiling but I need to see her face while she's doing that. She would be coaching me on what I need to do. She was a good inspiration to me. She was overweight too. She was at 251 pounds when she passed away. That's 11 pounds heavier than I was when I started this program. I always celebrate her birthday because a friend of ours shared a birthday with her. Already have the birthday gift.

Tried my snake print dress on today. I don't have much of a belly under it. I don't look like snake with its prey in it's belly. I looked down after I put it on and that's when I noticed it. Dad's inhome therapist a couple of months ago said that I might not be able to fit into it now since I've lost all that weight. She's half right. It still fits right but there isn't much in the front to see. I'm going to see if my brother in Ohio can send me the photo from our oldest niece's graduation that I'm in. I want to see how I look in the photo between now and then.

I hate the ice and cold too and I think we are going to get it again this weekend. You have darling puppies. Ours want to go for their walks, too. and my hubby hesitates to take them for a walk when it is so cold. Keep the sun shining with a smile and hang in there. Would love to see the before and after pictures.
