Found more motivation.......

Sunday, November 28, 2010

Good Morning all, So far it is a great weekend.......and my head is back on my shoulders facing in the forward direction.
Here's my "story" of new found motivation......
DH has always been a supportive person when it came to my "dieting" and quite helpful too.
With the changes I have made in the past six months in cooking meals (adding at least two veggies and having fruit for dessert and snacks) he has "fallen into the new habits". He was always a big meat and potatoes kind of guy. At times I would find myself making two different meals for us. Now I make one meal and only half the amount I used to.

He's losing weight and inches just like the rest of us and how proud I am of him.

A couple of months ago DH was joking about my "reeling him in" to eating healthier. I know how personal eating habits are so I'm not one to hag or badger anyone into doing something they are jot ready for. now after all of these years (thank you SP and friends) we seem to be on the same page. And I am so happy.......I've come to realize that over time making small changes (even if they are not goals) make a BIG difference.

I found a picture of the two of us from many years ago......both of us at "ideal" weights ...
looking happy and healthy. I'm going to put that picture on the refrigerator (maybe after the holidays) just as a motivator.

It's suppose to get up to 40 degrees I'm planning on grilling before the Packer game. Just a footnote: we do a lot of surf and turf on the grill........not the ordinary kind (lobster and steak), but cod and chicken accompanied by sparkling apple juice instead of champagne!

Hugs to all who read this and thanks for stopping by. have a happy healthy week!

my surf & turf usually means burgers and shrimp, lol.

wtg! my dh lost 30 lbs without counting a single calorie. I can still remember the day he asked why he wasn't eating veggies and I told him it was because he didn't take any.

Great blog. I feel like a "sneaky Pete" with my DH, too! I have just quietly made the nutrition changes and he has lost weight and inches, too. IF I announced that I was cooking differently, I"d be having an uphill battle! HEE HEE!

Have a great, great Sunday watching the game. GO PACKERS!

Quotes for those of us who over indulged......

Friday, November 26, 2010

For a lot of you yesterday will go down as a successful day with new eating habits working there charms. And for some of us yesterday was a day that just got the best of us. So for those who over indulged I have some quotes to get us through today (and the rest of the weekend).

"Don't let yesterday use up too much of today" - Will Rogers

"Finish each day and be done with it. You have down what you could" - Ralph Waldo Emerson

"You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there"

And..........."The journey is more important than the destination"

My plan is to think about what I did right and what I did that could have been better......than let it go. I can't go back and change anything. So I AM done with it. I'm going to get out of the water and enjoy the journey just as much as I did the day before yesterday.......and some day I WILL make my destination...

HUGS to all who read this and let's have a healthy day.

Changing another

Wednesday, November 17, 2010

It's another gloomy day outside and I've come to the realization that I need to change another "old" habit.......
As we come into late fall with the onset of winter (in Wisconsin), I realize that sunshine needs to come from within.....
When I was working I always came upon dozens of people who were happy and sparkling and drew from then the "sunshine" they had shown. Now that I'm retired and no longer have those acquaintances to draw from I need to put it on myself to shine........
Yesterday I could feel myself getting into a "funky" mood when the phone rang. It was my son (who lives in Portland Oregon). It was so good to talk with him. He just got back from a four day camping trip and was in high spirits and I grew from that to get out of my "funk".
Today I will work on changing my habit of drawing from others "sunshine" and start giving the "sunshine" to everyone I come in contact with. I'm usually a friendly, happy soul and will NOT let myself be "ruled" by the lack of sunshine, I will NOT let myself get into a gloomy there are many more people out there who have it much worse than I. I WILL be thankful for the blessings I have received. This is the beginning of a new day with a new habit to conquer.
Thanks for stopping by my blog and letting me "vent" really helps to put my thought down on "virtual paper".........solidifies my feelings and makes them real....
HUGS to all who read this and have a healthy day................

Being in WI, too, I can feel your frustration with the darker, shorter days. UGH.

Glad your son called and it brightened your day.

You KNOW this is a safe place to vent, so VENT AWAY!

You are one of my rays of sunshine without a doubt. I remember I always used to sing, "You Are My Sunshine, My Only Sunshine', to my son almost each and every day when he was little. Every so often it still comes out - even with a surly teenager!

Sing it Sister! Sing it to yourself if need be.
Love you AUNTB63! emoticon

By the way, everytime I sing it, I cry. Wow!

Just had to share this with you....

Friday, November 05, 2010

While paging through one of the many catalogs that I get in the mail I came across this:

"Begin each day as if it were on purpose"

What better words to start you day? It is YOUR day, YOUR life, so live it the way YOU want to! Take control and shape YOUR day the way YOU envision it and be ready for whatever life may throw your way.

Thanks for stopping by and reading this......... emoticon to all!

I exceeded my monthly goal....

Saturday, October 30, 2010

The month is coming to a close and I once again am ecstatic about SP. This journey because of my SP friends is turning out to be more than I could have ever imagined.
My monthly goal is to lose 4#'s. This month I lost 5#'s. By now on any other plan I would have the frame of mind to be happy, but celebrate by eating whatever, whenever. To treat myself for all the hard work it tool to get me here (with food).
Being on SP I have learned that when you reach one goal you put another in place and continue on your journey. And that's what I plan to do. All the things I've been doing just keep falling in place and why would I want to change the momentum. Reading the success stories and tracking my food and fitness keeps me motivated, along with the habits of my Spark friends who inspire me so much. I know how happy my friends will be for me and I also know that when /if I falter those same friends will help pick me up and walk with me on this journey.
My whole outlook on this journey to a healthier lifestyle has changed from the "diet" mentality of old. Every day is not easy, but the days that are give me the strength to continue on.
While grocery shopping yesterday, I ran into an old friend, in the produce department of all places. We chatted a while and I found out she is in renal failure and has to do dialysis 3 times a week. Her outlook is that she has never felt better in her whole life....she always was one to see the brighter side of all things. Just being around her for those few minutes made me feel good about life in general.
Whenever we come to that place where things seem impossible, we need to revel in our accomplishments and continue to see the bigger picture. We need to smile, keep our chin up and go forward. After all, yesterday is gone; tomorrow we can't change, but is a "present" we can unwrap and joyfully embrace.
HUGS to all who read this and have a healthy weekend. I'm off to a new farmers doors for the winter months........hope it is a good as the outdoor one I usually go to.

Love your post! IT really is about day-to-day. I find that the older I get the more I appreciate that approach to life.

You're doing such a great job!!! Keep it up.

Sorry to hear about your friend being on dialysis. My lil sis has kidney failure, but she is not quite @ the dialysis stage . . . yet. She's a nurse, too, and both of us know that the time will come, but she takes SUCH good care of herself and that makes the difference. I only wish she lived closer (she's in IL)

Whenever we come to that place where things seem impossible, we need to revel in our accomplishments and continue to see the bigger picture. We need to smile, keep our chin up and go forward.

That was motivational, motivation to keep going, pick our selfs up again. Ive never been to a farmers market. Ive heard they have great fruits and veggies at great prices. Im gonna put that on my list and maybe try something new ive never tried b4 like a zuchini or something.

That is awesome that you walk to your own beat of your drum and follow your own plan. Your plan that works for you, bcuz each of ours bodies are different and work and different ways. emoticonaunt way to go. You put the r in rock emoticon emoticon
