Friday, I put together a journal in which I'll keep a food log (portions, kind of food).
At the beginning, I have a page:
Promises to me,
Favorite Quotes and Health Facts,
Pounds lost (I drew a jar and stuck circles on which I wrote each pound lost),
My rewards (for each 5 pound milestone, I reward myself with , for example, nail polish, magazine, DIY dress, ...)

Weight-loss Journey + Thyroid

I went to see a Naturopath and he told me I have problems with my thyroid. He said: so when you try to loose a pound, you take two on, right?". I'm just like, what?! you're reading my mind! haha I wasn't that shocked cause my mom has hypothyroid and it's hereditary. I was just so glad to put the finger on the problem! I started to take seaweed and iode supplements and cut all pasta, bread, rice,etc. I don't find it as hard as I could have imagined. The only challenge is eating out because EVERYTHING comes with a side order of what I can't eat.
So far, this week, I've lost an astonishing 3 pounds! Soooo overjoyed because I've reached my 10 pounds lost milestone which means I can treat myself! I've bought magazines 5 months ago for when this day would arrive!

I wanted to see what has happened over the past year or so. Here's a recap:
June 27th 2012: 181 pounds
August 6th 2012: 173.5 pounds

Emotional Roller Coaster that brought me back to (or should I say, beyond the initial number)

February 8th 2013: 192 pounds (highest I have EVER been, BIG wake-up call)
May 15th 2013: 183.5 pounds
August 14th (today): 182 pounds (I had stopped for a few weeks. Just started 2 weeks ago)

The past 2 weeks have really been amazing! Adjusting to my new food restrictions.


I am planning to loose 1.5 pounds each week for the next 4 weeks and then, 2 pounds per week while I do the 60-days INSANITY. I should loose about an other 28 pounds for a grand total of 38 pounds, just on time for my vacation at a resort with a group of friends.

    I am also hypothyroid and it sucksss. I have been eating those seaweed snacks from Trader Joes, hadn't heard about the pills! What else did they recommend for you to help? I'm always looking for tips!

Losing weight and being hypothyroid can sometimes be REALLY frustrating, but you CAN do it!!!!!

    Congrats on the weight loss.

As for the carbs, I'm not sure it has anything to do with thyroid. You should get some blood tests to see if you really have that problem.

But I know for sure that the fast carbs like white bread, rice and potatoes, are like sugar. they tend to make your blood sugar rise fast then you produce a lot of insuline wich puts you in an hypoglycemic state wich makes you hungrier. So you try to have them no more than 3 times a week, in small quantities and never before you have eaten some protein or fat. protein and fat slows digestion so the sugar doesn't get in your blood as fast.

    As someone else who has hypothyroid, why do you need to cut carbs? I've never heard that suggested before.

    Losing the weight is fantastic, but learning what you did about how your image of your body affects the ability to lose weight is emoticon It surely does affect how successful you can be at your program.
