It's snowing

Monday, April 14, 2014

In KC, we are waking up to a fierce wind and snow flurries. I just went out to cover my sprouting perennials with some leaves. This after I just cleared them over the weekend! HAHA. Good thing I had not completed uncovering all the flowers yet! Expecting more snow tomorrow.

Hope fruit trees will be okay.

We went from 83 degrees and sunny skies on Sat to rain, hail, sleet, ice and snow and high winds on Sun. Just measured on the deck as far as I could reach out. 2 inches of snow is out there. This is spring? Ah well, it's Nebraska for you.

Gardening this year?

Tuesday, April 08, 2014

Gardening season is here. We have started on the vegetable garden--well my big sis has. My responsibility are the flower gardens and I did get started raking and clearing. I stopped because there was to be a cold spell last weekend but I hope to get back to it this week. I have lots of perennials--but will be adding some annuals to provide color variety through fall.

I also have 2 community garden plots--I am experimenting with a wild flower garden in one and then a herb garden in one half of the 2nd plot as well as keeping my cool weather plants that overwintered and have started to re-spout.

Are you gardening this year?

emoticon I would probably garden more if I didn't have seasonal allergies. But I usually do plant a few things in my flower bed in front of the house.

Only made it to 99!! emoticon I was trying to beat my longest streak of 120 Days. Now gotta start over again!! Blankety blank!!

I would say 99 was pretty good, I have never made it anywhere to that point, I'm doing good to make it a week.

The Fickleness of March...

Wednesday, March 26, 2014

I was going to write a blog about the fickleness of March. (PS:Is fickleness a word?) Anyway, while looking for a link for an old video I wanted to see again. I found this blog that I wrote in 2009 and thought why not recycle it, it echoes my thoughts exactly:-)

So here goes...

"What is with the weather? Up, Down. Hot, Cold. Rain, Snow. The last few days here have been freezing. A minute ago, I could have sworn I saw a few snow flurries. They were gone a few moments later--maybe I imagined it. All this flip flopping made me search for apt quotes for the weather. I found these two.

In the spring I have counted one hundred and thirty-six different kinds of weather inside of four and twenty hours. ~Mark Twain

The first day of spring is one thing, and the first spring day is another. The difference between them is sometimes as great as a month. ~Henry Van Dyke "

Snow, Snow Go Away:-)

Tuesday, February 04, 2014

Lots of emoticon emoticon today. This in the heels of a wintry mix we had last week! Expected amount of snow today is 4"-11" which is a weird range. Is it closer to 4" or closer to 11" ?? In any case, it has been coming down steadily since 8 this morning.

I drove to the gym this morning and the roads weren't that bad yet--but the snow had only started and the drive is short--5 minutes usually. My drive to work is 25 minutes on a regular day and when the roads are bad, it can be a nerve racking 45 minutes+!! So I made a judgment call and decided to stay home from work. It will earn me an absence occurrence but I am glad I do not have to drive home in this when I get off @ 8 pm.

I am getting a lot done @ home. I just filled out one of my FSA expenses and took a brisk very invigorating walk to the post office to mail it. One more thing I needed to get done. Killed two birds with one stone--got a workout and mailed my form off.

Stay warm!
