Prayers Please

Monday, April 22, 2013

Well... my little niece isn't doing so great again. Her OS keeps going back down when they take her off oxygen even though her lungs "sound" pretty clean. They did an ultrasound of her heart today to rule that out and PTL!! it came back negative - all good there! But they still can't figure out why she can't suck in enough oxygen. :P

I am definitely praying for your little niece. It is so sad when our little ones aren't feeling well, and to not know what is going on is really the pits. I pray she gets well soon and I pray you and your family have peace and strength in the interim. emoticon emoticon

Food rotating to avoid allergens

Thursday, April 11, 2013

Well, I met with a nurse practitioner at the allergy office and found out that not only can I not eat anything I'm allergic to, I also have to rotate the food I'm NOT allergic to. Apparently I am so sensitive and allergic to such prevalent foods in the American diet that she wants to make sure I do what I can to not end up getting any MORE allergies and restricting my diet even further... therefore, I can only eat something 2-3 times a week and need 2 days minimum betwixt them. I made a food chart with beef, chicken, turkey, fish, and egg on it and will rotate/mix and match my veg to accompany them.

That is probably a good idea for a lot of people, anyway, to be sure of getting a broad spectrum of nutrients. Thanks for the heads-up on this issue, because we tend to get stuck in a chicken rut at our house, and I think this is good all-around advice! Good luck with it too!

Waiting... til I'm skinny. ????

Monday, March 25, 2013

I've been reading a number of "maintenance" articles lately... they seem to be "in season" so to speak right now... and since I found out about the allergies of course my weight has started coming down, and one thing I've found in common with the articles and comments that have been made to me is that, apparently, people believe that fat people have no life.

The articles talk about things you can do now that you couldn't do before, and people keep saying to me, Just think, when you're skinny you'll be able to ".....". Like I did nothing for the past 46 years of my life (I was always fat).

When I was 315 lbs I went camping. For a week. Every year. Sometimes more than once.

When I was 315 lbs I played bumper car basketball (I forget the right name).

When I was 265 lbs I went horse back riding.

When I was 265 lbs I rode my bike 8+ miles every day. Through Chicago.

When I was 315 and 265 lbs I walked a mile or more to the grocery store and then went shopping and walked a mile or more home.

I also went to movies, live theatre, out to dinner, hung out with friends, went to the lake, ran around with kids, went to museums, went shopping.

I didn't not have a life because I weighed over 300 lbs.

I didn't not have a life when I weighed 265.

I don't suddenly have a life now I'm starting to lose weight.

I CERTAINLY am not waiting to have a life when "I'm skinny".

And I don't understand why people have this mindset. I can't tell you have many blogs or personal information on sparkpages I have seen that says "I used to be able to... but now that I'm 160 or 180 or 203 lbs I can't." Really? Cause I was doing that when I was 315 lbs. Or they say "I can't wait to get back to 120 so that I can..." well, why can't you do it now? Do you really think that some magic number of weight is going to be the ticket to having a life? If you don't have a life now, you won't have one when you are thin.

Maybe that's why so many people are disappointed when they reach their goal weight, because life didn't suddenly become the "when I...then I can" that they were expecting. You can NOW.

Well sure you can still do many of the things when you are overweight that you can when you are not! I don't know where people get the idea that when you are overweight that you are unable to do things that skinny people are able to do?! It may be easier when you are skinny but it's not that you can't do it when you are overweight.

You are doing a great job!! Glad to hear that you are doing better now that you found out about your food allergies! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Nice blog! So true. I am guilty of holding myself back because of my weight though. I know I shouldn't but it's something I have to work on.

The only thing I can't bring myself to do is take a lot of pictures and I wish it wasn't that way because I don't want to look back and see that I have barely any.

Many people have this misconception just as they have the misconception that all overweight people are unhealthy. Some are very active and have excellent labs and no health problems.

    Good for you!

I think you are absolutely right. A lot of people are waiting, putting off life. Good for you for getting out and doing whatever you wanted, and not letting a little thing like some extra weight keep you from having fun. I find that really inspiring.

WOUBBIE 3/25/2013 11:12AM

Well, sure. As hard as losing weight and getting fit may be, for most people it mostly involves a physical commitment, with minimal thought involved.

To actually be happy with yourself and content with your life requires the work of multitudes of brain cells, and burpees are WAY easier in comparison than self-analysis ever will be.

The one thing they don't say and that is because they don't know is that life is easier. But that also applies when you are younger.

Keep up with your "life" as you are doing a great job.
